Just finished Keeping You a Secret by Julie Anne Peters, sweet YA lesbian romance and coming out story.Just started The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne.
Kath wrote: "Oh, I loved The Heart's Invisible Furies. You need to read A Ladder to the Sky, too."Noted :-)
Finished Innocence, another one I regret buying as the majority was ‘Boy’ which I own, and a few of the stories were based around it (boarding school tales), I’d have enjoyed the last one, where it explains how he became a writer, a lot more if I hadn’t read Boy first as there was an overlap.
Just finished In the Woods, its been on my kindle for a while and I wanted to finish it before I started watching the TV version. Not sure now... I enjoyed most of the book but it was a bit exasperating in places!! and I didn't like the ending.Just started Strangers on a Bridge, ok so far tho I feel I may get exasperated with this one too...

Finished The Tribe: The Liberal-Left and the System of Diversity
, which was very good.About halfway through Drug Wars: The terrifying inside story of Britain’s drug trade
, which is also turning out to be very good too.
Have had a read of Jonathan Hill's latest Maureen Novella Maureen's (Not So Great) British Cake Off and as usual, loved it.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.com/2019/...
Just finished Drug Wars: The terrifying inside story of Britain’s drug trade

All Out War: The Full Story of How Brexit Sank Britain's Political Class Apparently this is about something called Brexit... whatever that is.
Jim wrote: "Be interested to know how the brexit one ended David :-)"It ought to be subtitled The Never-Ending Story.

Just reviewed a couple of ghostly stories on Amazon. Books published for Halloween. I've given them both five stars but I have to say, I don't recommend anyone to buy them just yet. The kindle prices - they're having a larf. They're probably going to be good for next year.
Read Ray Bradbury's Machineries Of Joy - reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3027934766and
Tom Baker's Doctor Who: Scratchman - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3027934766.
Had to DNF one of mine yesterday, I realised I had read it before, but this time the writing grated on me so much I realised I had so many I wanted to read that I couldn't waste the time. Lisey's Story
Finished The Haunting of Hill House last night, enjoyed everything except the ending, so only a 4* read, just started Madness by Roald Dahl, although I have read the first story.
Just read A Long Way From Home by Brian Caves. Very powerful story set in Georgia, USA, in the early 1960s. Hugely recommended.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.com/2019/...

4. Other Dimensions volume 1 by Clark Ashton Smith - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2998994738.
Just finished Canal Dreams by Iain Banks Canal Dreams. My 2nd time reading. Must admit that I understood it a bit more this time. Although I understood completely her desire for revenge, I don't think I could've acted as she did. But, there again, I probably would have been killed anyway.Just started 'To Love and Cherish' by Lyn Andrews. Guess this will seem tame by comparison, but I'm determined to cover many genres in my reading.
Just read the first in a series by Dean Koontz, Odd Thomas - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3040627556and
first in Jack Vance's Lyonesse series - Lyonesse aka Suldrun's Garden - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3044269507.
I think that the trilogy really hangs together as one book, so I'd recommend reading all three books in one sitting :-)Reading one is a bit like reading one of the Lord of the Rings books separately
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Ooh, I love the Odd Thomas series, although think I’ve only read the first 3."Not that keen on it myself I'm afraid Desley. Anyway just read number 2 which was a bit better -
Forever Odd - review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3047340521
Just finished Lonely Planet Cuba by Brendan Sainsbury.Just started The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.
Loved Guernsey. Read it for our book group. I think the epistolatory style got on some people's wick, though.
Kath wrote: "Loved Guernsey. Read it for our book group. I think the epistolatory style got on some people's wick, though."Eek. I was hoping that that was just how the book starts. It's annoying me already and I'm only 3% in. Perhaps it will grow on me. ...
Just finished Know Me From Smoke which is a really good read for noir fans. Currently reading a book by Anthony Neil Smith that's not been published yet, but I'm looking forward to spread the word when the time is right. And then I'm going back to the 87th Precinct, I reckon.
Finished All Out War: The Full Story of How Brexit Sank Britain's Political Class
which turned out to be far more interesting than you'd think.Yes, really.

To set the record straight I am now very much enjoying the epistolary style of this book.
Finished Madness yesterday, at one point I was disappointed I’d restricted myself to 4, but am now glad, one of the ones in Madness was in Deception I think, and it appears there were more of his adult stories I have read, so not many new stories unfortunately. I am however really enjoying Sir Arthur Conan Doyles megapack, a collection of about 65 short stories that vary in subject, I’ve just read one about a pilot discovering new creatures in the sky.
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "That’s a shame Pam, how many of them do you have?"I thought I only had 3 then discovered I had book 3 as well, so have just read that though not had time to review it yet. So books 1 - 3 plus Odd Apocalypse.
Jess wrote: "I've just finished The Well of Loneliness"What did you think, Jess? I've read this classic twice. It knocked me out at the age of 19. But I struggled with it two or three decades later.
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. First class.Just started A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne. Thanks for the rec, Kath.

Hi All. I am new to the forum but not new to Goodreads. I often use it to record the books I have read. My name is Natalie and I am from Manchester. Just pottering round here looking what other people are reading but it seems this forum is not very well used nowawadays which is a shame! Just finished Last Day in Winter by Shari Low and now reading Unnatural Causes. Love biography, true crime, non fiction and fiction just the same!
Just finishedStorm in a Teacup: The Physics of Everyday Life
. Very readable and entertaining science of the everyday with plenty of tea.Just starting
Dangerous Hero: Corbyn’s Ruthless Plot for Power.... Hmmm.
I've just read The Salt Path which is next month's choice for our local book group. A decent read - I gave it 4* - but I kept wanting to shout at her!
If you love a bit of horror, Bone Snow by David Haynes will give you the heebie-jeebies. Set in America, touching on gangs and Japanese mythology, it's a great read.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.com/2019/...
I'm generally struggling to move from one book to another, but have pulled Bloody January from the shelf. I did an event with Alan Parks earlier this year and he was hugely likeable, so I hope I really enjoy this one.

I'll maybe get to this one when I'm feeling brave.
