M.A. Comley (melcom) I've just finished a romance for a change The Merry-Go-Round and now I'm reading Hetaera--Suspense in Ancient Athens by Suzanne Tyrpak, interesting read so far, not what I'd usually chose, but that's the beauty of cheap books on the Kindle, I suppose. ;-)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Richard Wilde as recommended by Karen (Kew) and it's a brilliant book. Family secrets, dying old man, lovely countryside (Shropshire, India) very well told. I stayed up late last night, that's why I'm feeling completely raddled now!

Just about to start another book when a pre-publication one came in for proofing so I shall do that first. Then it might be Harry's Green Linnet.

I'm glad to here that you enjoyed it Ignite! This book should be published! It's books like this and Steve's In the Blood that have made me loose all respect for publishers (because they have turned down such gems yet published some absolute drivel!)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Yes Shaun & Lorraine, I did like The Kult - it was gory in parts but not what I class as horror. Horror is what people feel facing my cooking.
I have just finished Punchline- which I also enjoyed. That makes the last book for the challenge - so since I have the rest of today plus three more days I am wondering whether to increase the target.Smiley

Pleased to hear you enjoyed it, Janet. But you've obviously never tasted my cooking ;)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Glad you enjoyed Punchline Janet - Paul has another book due out soon.

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments just finished Company of Liars, a good read and just starting Tom Fleck

message 1261: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Tom Fleck is great Mo.

I'm just about to start Green Linnet, also by Harry Nicholson. I love his style of writing.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I've had to put Chris' What in Hell is up with Heaven? down for a while. Typically of Chris, it's a well written book, but I just cannot get to grips with the subject. Those who know me can guess why.

So I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath at the moment along with a technical book that I won't bother to link. Quite a short one, only 800 pages. I swear these guys get paid by the word.

message 1263: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments & I should have mentioned that I also have finally finished The Moonstone.

Now I'm tired and ready for a nap - too early to retire for the night, otherwise I'll be awake at silly o'clock. I do have to get up at half past six though to fit in the dog walking before work.

Don't forget to check out Karen Maitlands other two books Mo, The Gallows Curse & The Owl Killers, (sorry can't do the link ) they are both as good as The Company of Liars.
I am still tyring to start Tom Fleck, I tried to start it earlier in the week, tonight I am going to sit in the garage with a torch so no one will be able to see we are in & maybe then I can get on with it.

message 1265: by Kath (last edited Dec 29, 2011 08:15AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Green Linnet by our Harry Nicholson Green Linnet which contains some tasters for Tom Fleck and other stories and poems. A good little book.
Just started Tear In Time by Chris Petersen, another of our authors. I found the first few percent hard to get into (don't know anything about the American Civil War - haven't even seen Gone With the Wind!) but I'm really into it now.

message 1266: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished reading two fluffy books - Kissing Kelli and Gayle's Tales, Light Romantic Stories to Make You Smile, both of which I enjoyed. I need to read something meatier now though! I do tend to hop around with my reading from heavy to extremely light! Not sure what I'll read next though, I've created a seperate collection called "read soon" that I put good stuff into so that they don't get lost in the freebies! I'll sort through there and choose something.

Have read and enjoyed The Owl Killers but didn't realise it was by the same author as Company of Liars. This is not a bad thing. I have an interest in the 13th and 14th Century history particularly the plague time. I know I should pay more attention to the authors but I will look out for her in the future.

You're welcome!

I'm reading two books together at the mo -
It's A Dog's Life Mel Comley and Hot Flash which is by the same author as Kissing Kelli but is totally different, very funny chick lit.

Janet Jones | 20 comments Just finished a load of christmassy books, romances mainly, nothing worth mentioning!! Just started The Book Thief, loads of good reviews for this - took a while to get into the writing style but starting to enjoy it now!

message 1278: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I really loved The Book Thief Janet. I've just finished Chris Petersen's book Tear In Time and resumed Trollope's The Warden. This is for our village Book Group and I have to say I'm not enjoying it. Thank goodness it's short!

message 1279: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I always have a lot of respect for people who can read stuff they don't enjoy. I always give up as I think there are plenty of great books to read and not enough time to read them in, so why waste time reading a bad book?

message 1280: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Only so I can tell people why I didn't like it Lousie-Lesley. I shall barge my way through it to get to something better (for me - it's a classic, it can't be all bad.)
You are right - so many books, so little time.

message 1281: by Nell (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I finished A Dark Kiss of Rapture and I downloaded A Goodreads Gallimaufrey to the Kindle so I can start dipping into it.

I think my next major book will be...American Gods

message 1285: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hope you enjoy the Gallimaufrey Louise-Lesley. I found American Gods absolutely amazing though it's some years now since I read it. Some books stick in the mind and this is one of them.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Just finished Shattered, which I really enjoyed, still reading DD's Broken City, and I don't know what to read after that, although really even though Ollie thinks it's too grown up for him I might just finish Sophie's book without him :)

message 1290: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I haven't decided what to start reading next - I've set myself a challenge on the 2012 Goodreads Challenge. I will do the same as last year and not count any books that I have read before.

message 1291: by M.A. (last edited Jan 01, 2012 08:59AM) (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Just finished Hetaera--Suspense in Ancient Athens very well written and a great mystery, bit risqué in places though. Going to start The Devil's Hour next, I think!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Sophie Robbins' book A Hole in the World. It is so much NOT my style of book but I couldn't put it down - remarkable! Off to review shortly.
I've just started Radio Multiverse - First Contact by Ravi Veloo. Found it on Amazon's new Meet Our Authors forum and it's fascinating. 15% in and hooked.

message 1299: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments one rubbish thing about Kindle (or you could say good in my case really..) is that I had no idea how freaking long this book was before I started. I only got to 11% the other night and I read for what felt like AGES.

message 1300: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments But if it falls on your head when you nod off you don't brain yourself. I did that at University with Arthur Holmes' Principles of Physical Geology - about the size, weight and density of a brick. I might still have the scar!
