Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished The Extra Ordinary Life of Frank Derrick, Age 81 by J.B. Morrison, which was beautiful, laugh-out-loud, gentle comedy.

Just finished Dietland by Sarai Walker, which was a fabulous adventure around trying to persuade an overweight woman not to get her stomach stapled.

Just started Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church by Lauren Drain. This should be a good trip. ...

David Hadley Just finished The Boy on the Bridge The Boy on the Bridge (The Girl With All the Gifts #2) by M.R. Carey which was excellent, Perhaps not quite up to The Girl With All the Gifts, but very close.

Very recommended, but read TGWATG first.

Just started The Cartographer's Apprentice: Leave Them Wanting More The Cartographer's Apprentice Leave Them Wanting More by Jim Webster .

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just ditched two books in a row. Started Shalini Boland's new one The Silent Sister. I usually enjoy hers so I hope it'll break the downward slide.

message 12764: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've started The Breadwinners: A Family Saga which I'm undecided on but I am about 30% through and All the Light We Cannot See which I'm listening to but it is narrated in quite a stilted way so I'm finding it harder to listen to. Does anyone know if it is written that way?

message 12765: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't know - but you could try I quick glance at the Look Inside on Amazon and see if it is.

message 12769: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't think it's for me. I'll finish the book I have but I don't think I'll read anything else by the author if this is his style. It's a good book and story so far though, I'm just finding it a bit too staccato.

Here's my Goodreads review:

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I finished The Boy on the Bridge yesterday.

Disappointing. Didn't care about any of the characters and the plot was uninspired.

I've started Happiness which is promising so far.

I think because it was coming at us as a second go at that world. TGWATG (I so want to type TWAT!) had the benefit of novelty. Took me by surprise, that one.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I agree Kath. It was a novel novel.

I think that is it. I started TGWATG without a clue as to what it was about, and the way it slowly built its world as the story progressed was one of the things I really liked about it.

TWAT? - The Woman's Additional Talents?

Could be a sequel to TGWATG when the girl grows up, I suppose.

message 12789: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished No Cry For Help No Cry For Help by Grant McKenzie which was an enjoyable and pretty decent fast paced action thriller. Flagged a bit in the middle, but readable to the end.

Just started Black Wood (Banktoun, #1) by S.J.I. Holliday Black Wood.

The Girl With All The Gifts. The Girl With All the Gifts One of the few book titles I can forgive for having 'girl' in there as it's about a child. Of the female persuasion.
