Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Finished QB1 - I skipped quite a bit, as it was very football orientated. Also thought there was a lot of unnecessary swearing Now starting Deeper Water

Daniella Bernett | 31 comments Just finished "This Was A Man" by Jeffrey Archer
This Was a Man (The Clifton Chronicles, #7) by Jeffrey Archer

Here's my Goodreads review: A magnificent conclusion to the Clifton Chronicles. It was a bittersweet moment when I turned the page for the last time on these well-defined and dynamic characters, whom I came to know and love. Jeffrey Archer once again demonstrates why he deserves the title of master storyteller.

Just started "The Girl From Venice" by Martin Cruz Smith

Just started Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, which I'm really enjoying.

David Hadley Just finished Die of Shame Die of Shame by Mark Billingham which was not bad.

Just started Just One Damned Thing After Another (The Chronicles of St Mary's, #1) by Jodi Taylor Just One Damned Thing After Another.

Tim | 8539 comments Ah, good old St Marys! Slightly shaky start I thought (I only gave the first one 3 stars), but those books get very addictive!

Yes. I've seen a few people here mention them. So I thought I'd give it a go.

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Just started The Hangman's Daughter . Not sure at the moment what relevance the title has to the main theme. It seems starting a book in the yuckiest way possible to grab the reader's attention (?) is currently in vogue.

with the 'look inside' feature with ebooks on Amazon there is a feeling that you have to grab the reader in the first bit

I tend to judge the' look inside' feature on style of writing and ability to pique interest rather than full blast sensationalism. But then, I am a delicate flower ; )

message 12226: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Shuker (kathyshuker) I've just finished Hag-Seed and loved it: such a clever reworking of Shakespeare's Tempest; incredibly imaginative. I haven't reviewed it yet. It's the sort of book that needs to settle in your mind for a while.
Just starting Endless Night.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I finished Artemis yesterday. 3 stars.

Incredibly disappointing.

He threw in every PC stereotype character he could, right down to the Mountie with a heart of gold.
The science made me cry with boredom.

3 stars was very generous.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I read a collection of short stories yesterday by an aspiring writer I met on Twitter, and I really enjoyed them They are sci-fi/fantasy stories and the collection is called The Shiny Folk and other stories. You can get it here and its definitely worth $1.99.

I love Anne. Ultimate cozy reading.

Eleanor Oliphant looks very 'Ove-y'. I'll be sensible and wait for your verdict before I download it.

I really enjoyed it. I read it as comic-book escapism. The only off-note was that women don't think about their breasts as often as men writing as women do.

message 12235: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yes, that irked me no end, too. I really was too generous with 3 stars.

I want to get into Twitter

Finished Flash and Bones, not one of her best books

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Just jump in there and follow a load of people. And then talk to them. Occasionally some of them answer back.

I've read a few in this series, and have a couple more to read I think. They are a little strange, but I did enjoy them.
I've just finished The Beautiful Dead, can't say I particularly enjoyed it, so not one of her better books. I have now returned to Jo Nesbo, and reading The Thirst, having decided I wasn't going to read any more of his! I found previous books to be too gruesome and a bit far fetched, so will see how far I get with this one before it gets binned.

David Hadley Just finished The Things That Nobody Knows: 501 Mysteries of Life, the Universe and Everything The Things That Nobody Knows 501 Mysteries of Life, the Universe and Everything by William Hartston , a compendium of pieces on things like the things that nobody knows bits on QI, which was quite interesting.

Just started A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived The Stories in Our Genes by Adam Rutherford A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived: The Stories in Our Genes.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Just finished Her Fearful Symmetry, which I actually enjoyed more than many reviewers seem to have, and started on Elizabeth Bowen's The Heat of the Day.

message 12244: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I enjoyed Her Fearful thingie too. I was one of the lovers not the loathers.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Exactly - I don't know why people were so hard on it! I found it very atmospheric, and I liked the twin dynamics.

message 12246: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've just finished Nearly Dead by Conrad Jones. It's a prequel and I'll certainly investigate the first in the series on the strength of this. Not just yet, though. Still in recovery from a nineteen month-old whirlwind - so, review to follow!

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Just working my way through Michael Anderle's space opera series 'The Kurtherian Gambit'. On number 18 now thanks to Kindle Unlimited. Surprisingly enjoyable considering the 'vampires and werewolves are the result of alien intervention' premise.
