David Hadley Just finished Slur Slur (The Riverhill Trilogy #1) by Heather Burnside . I know that somewhere deep in my Kindle unread folder there is the second one in this series.

When I find it, I will read it.

Just started The Beautiful Dead by Belinda Bauer The Beautiful Deadwhich is a Belinda Bauer book, and therefore excellent.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Needed a new kindle book, picked a book of flash fiction, not sure if it will be my cup of tea or not though Just A Little Terrible

I've read all six of them and there isn't a bad one among them. All cracking good stories which I enjoyed immensely :-)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished The Road to Little Dribbling: Adventures of an American in Britain by Bill Bryson. Not his finest.

Just started You by Caroline Kepnes, about a boy's sinister obsession with a girl who walks into the bookshop where he works.

message 11962: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Just finished Thornyhold by Mary Stewart which I think Pat mentioned a while back. Lovely read picked up for 50p in a second-hand record and book shop.

Must start Heresy if I'm to contribute anything to the book club.

Harry Nicholson (harrynicholson) | 209 comments I managed the first half of Orlando by Virginia Wolf. That must count for something - but I felt better about life doing a bit of weeding in the garden.

message 11964: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I threw Orlando across the bedroom after half! I was losing the will to live. Nice to see you again, Harry.

Just read and reviewed RED IS THE COLOUR. A new direction for Mark - I love a versatile author - and the first of a crime series. Great stuff and, as in real life, not all ends are tied up.

message 11965: by Harry (new)

Harry Nicholson (harrynicholson) | 209 comments Hello, Kath. I've been absent for a while but, in the garden, I sometimes remember how you husband seeds from your veg plants and grow them on - and come up with unique strains. That will be an interesting pursuit, and one that promotes patience.

message 11966: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It does! The hardest part is discarding the 'also rans' - although you can eat them first!

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments Just finished The Enchanter's Forest - I did enjoy it but I don't much care for the paranormal stuff she uses more frequently now. I'll probably still read the rest as I want to know what happens to Helewise and Josse, but I shall wait until the price reduces on the more recent ones as over £6 is too much for me to pay for an ebook.

So glad you enjoyed them - I loved them.

I've finished Peter May's Enzo series - entertaining enough but they didn't really grab me as much as his Lewis trilogy. And started Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther series, Berlin Noir: March Violets / The Pale Criminal / A German Requiem but abandoned it half way as I really didn't like the writing style and couldn't care less what happened. I'm now back on safe ground with Christobel Kent, The Day She Disappeared. I have enjoyed her books in the past, so have high hopes for this one.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finshed a couple I'd recommend, in two different genres.

Debbie McGowan's LGBT novel of wartime When Skies Have Fallen which is currently free and a real thought-provoking story,

http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

and a crime novel, which is 3rd in a series but which I read as a stand-alone, and it really works - Deadly Friendship by Tara Lyons.

message 11971: by Elizabeth (last edited Jul 31, 2017 12:02PM) (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Just finished Heresy by SJ Parris. First in an Elizabethan 'detective' series featuring Giordano Bruno (who really existed and was known for his support of Copernicus' theory that the planets moved around the sun). Quite a good story - kept me guessing, but I was distracted on a couple of occasions - firstly by wondering exactly how a renegade monk would have acquired civilian clothes that disguised him sufficiently from the hotly pursuing Inquisitors, and secondly by the existence of tricorne-wearing university officials (in the mid 1500s? Well, maybe).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Just finished Mayhem: A Collection of Stories - as usual, it was a mix of good and bad, but some 'stories' were only a page and a half, plus there were typos. Looking forward to starting Go Set a Watchman tomorrow

I've loved her books so far - I don't think I've read Conspiracy yet, and I see there's a sixth due out next year. Something to look forward to.
Struggling a bit with Christobel Kent's 'Day she disappeared' but I'll persevere a bit longer...

David Hadley Just finished The Beautiful Dead The Beautiful Dead by Belinda Bauer which was - of course - excellent.

Highly recommended (and it is still only £1.99 at Amazon).

Just started All Fall Down by Tom Bale All Fall Down, which like the other book of his I read - See How They Run - starts off really well.

I couldn't waste any more reading time on it.

I've got to update my summer reading. Soon.

I'm nothing if not stubborn, Patti ;-)

Just finished books 1 and 2 of a Michael Moorcock trilogy, The Chronicles of Castle Brass:

book 1 - Count Brass and reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2083283951.

book 2 - The Champion of Garathorm, and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2083501935.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Stubborn, I dunno. Tenacious, absolutely.

After going through a long, disappointing, dry reading spell, I started Hocus Pocus yesterday. Just what I needed.

Looking forward to immersing myself into it tomorrow.

Years since I've read any Moorcock either, Jim. Passed most of them on years ago, but still had this trilogy and the Elric books which I will re-read hopefully before too long.

message 11990: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Just finished Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone, first in his Craftwork series, and thoroughly enjoyed it - fantasy meets technology and includes corporate lawyers, zombies and gods.

Just started Money by Martin Amis.

message 11993: by Elizabeth (new)

message 11994: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Brace | 1 comments I have just finished The Golf Widows by Ian Jones, it vis without doubt the best read I have had in a very long time. Over 400 pages that I finished in three days I could just not put it down. It is both funny and frightening in places. It is different to most books that I have read. It centres around three couples from Manchester on holiday in Fuengirola, Spain. They have adventures and misadventures in equal measure. I don't want to spoil the content for you butit is a definite page turner.

message 11995: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished rereading Strangers Strangers by Dean Koontz which remains - probably - my favourite of his books.

Just started rereading The Talisman (The Talisman, #1) by Stephen King The Talisman. I've been meaning to start my rereading of King for some time, and this is where it begins.

message 11996: by Elizabeth (new)

Sounds like an interesting concept but I can't add any more to my TBR apart from books I already have!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Cold Sweats and Vignettes by John Bowen. Four short stories and very good indeed.

and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Sci-fi with a really gripping story line.

David Hadley Just finished The Silk Roads: A New History of the World The Silk Roads A New History of the World by Peter Frankopan , which is very very good and highly recommended. A history of the world seen through the context of trade where east meets west.

Just started The Blank Slate The Modern Denial of Human Nature by Steven Pinker The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature which I have read before, but I want to reread.
