Put it down, Jud. Make the most of the bit of reading time you have before the new baby comes.I recall I enjoyed the Red Tent, too.
You'd probably enjoy Birds Without Wings
And Henna House

I am skim reading it, skipping most of the descriptive bit. She has gone from hating and ignoring the Prince to pretty much dating him without actually dating him, it happened in the space of one weekend. It's really not predictable at all.
Just finished Blacklands
which, like all the other Belinda Bauer books I've read, was excellent stuff.Just started
See How They Run which is not bad, so far.
Just finished The Shock of the Old: Technology and Global History Since 1900
, which was quite interesting.Just started
Why Is Sex Fun? The Evolution of Human Sexuality, which judging by the first chapter is going to be more than quite interesting.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "I know why sex is fun."Not when you are the one left in the bath full of cold custard holding the watermelon while your bobble hat is covered in pickled beetroot stains.
Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "A bath of cold custard... that thought just gave me the heebie jeebies"It's in chapter three of the book, so you must be doing it wrong.
I've posted my review of Ann Leckie's Ancillary Justice - I had a few minor issues with it, but on the whole it's good science fiction:

Read the first 2 Zelazny Amber books - Nine Princes in Amber
and The Guns of Avalon
.The first was a bit disappointing compared to my memory of the series, but it picks up in book 2.

I accidentally read book two first and it has remained my favourite - pleased that you think it's holding up, because it's time I read the series again, and there's nothing worse than remembering a book with pleasure and not being able to regain that on a subsequent reading. That happened to me recently with Heinlein's Glory Road.
Finished Autumn Rose I don't recommend it, although I sort of enjoyed it, the grammar and phrasing made it quite difficult.Started Cellar Door which I've had for years and never got around to. It was actually an accidental touch of the screen that opened it. Who am I to say no to fate? It's not at all what I expected but I'm enjoying it.
Bit of a contrast to my last - finished the old classic The Riddle of the Sands
by Erskine Childers.

Currently reading THE COUNT OF THE SAHARA: Historical fiction at its best (wow, what a subtitle!); Ship of Magic, still, taking me ages; The Art of Staying Dead (excellent thriller); The Summer Book (lovely) and The Third Rule (another fine thriller). As usual, too many.
It's taken me a long time to get into it: didn't like any of the characters for ages, but it's suddenly warmed up.
Oh, and Half of a Yellow Sun. I like it but because I know it's all going to go pear-shaped I'm almost afraid to engage with the characters.
Finished Footprints today, enjoyed it. Think I'm reading The Collectors by Ron Sewell next, not sure after reading reviews
Finished book 3 of the Magician Trilogy by Jenny Nimmo, The Chestnut Soldier
. Rather an oddity compared to the rest of the series.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Finished End of WatchHugely disappointing."
I agree. A real tangent from the first two.
Pam wrote: "Enjoyed The Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wynne Jones
"That was very good. I think theres a sequel, too.
Just reviewed a couple of book I've read in the evenings while the grandkids were here. Two for Netgaley - one of which I didn't finish (it was the sixth in a series and was sent out as a thank-you for a previous review - how mad! I didn't know the characters and I didn't care) and one, a Booker long-listed book which shouldn't have got that far, to which I gave 3*. My favourite, by a long way, was the third Edward book by Craig Lancaster Edward Unspooled. You need to have read the other two to follow his progress but it's one of the loveliest series I've read for a long time.

Just finished:Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.
1971 - Never a Dull Moment: Rock's Golden Year by David Hepworth.
Both wonderful.
Just started:
Killing Floor by Lee Child.
Looking good.
Just finished Why Is Sex Fun? The Evolution of Human Sexuality
, while it was a good book, it could have lasted a bit longer and gone a bit harder and deeper in order to be really satisfying.Just started
Why People Believe Weird Things: Pseudoscience, Superstition, and Other Confusions of Our Time. Also just finished See How They Run
, which was okay, readable but a bit meh. Also just started
Human Remains.
Kath wrote: "I'm about a quarter into See How They Run - enjoying it so far but it looks long..."I think it is long - perhaps too long - it does tend to sag in the middle.
I often find that books which go over 4500 locations (don't we think differently now?) could do with cutting down.
