Listening to
read by Paul Michael What a lovely Dark Chocolate Brown voice he has. I could listen to him forever!
Just finished the rather fabulous Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote.Just started the promising Foundation by Isaac Asimov.
Just finished The Old Man and the Seahttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
which didn't bowl me over, prizewinner or not.
Failure. I couldn't finish Warrior in BronzeWarrior in Bronze. I think it was me, but my problem was there was too much 'I should have killed him/her as I found out later' that annoys me almost beyond bearing. I want to read without too many coy hints about the future.

Oh, that sounds annoying. Foreshadowing should be much more subtle.
Then we readers can congratulate ourselves on clever we are when something we just know is going to happen, happens.
Warrior in Bronze is one of Shipway's books I haven't written. The problem with writing about somebody historical is that the educated reader knows how the story is going to end anyway
Finished Sleep Tight still debating whether to give it 5* or 4*. Another solid enjoyable book from Rachel, cleverly done and loved the channel isles references
Just finished Somewhere to Hide
, which was okay.Just started
The Monkey's Raincoat, the first in the Elvis Cole series - apparently.
I've just finished Neal Asher's latest release War Factory and it's a cracking action sci-fi read:

Just finished Career of Evil (book club read). I don't feel driven to read the first two Cormoran Strike books - but I will probably read the next to find out how the main character relationship works out (or not).Just started The Wrong Stuff. It has been niggling at me to find out what happens next to the Pan of Hamgee...
Just finished The Monkey's Raincoat
which I thought was very good indeed. I shall be looking for others in the series.Just started

I've just finished reading Carole Gill's Circus of Horrors, and it's a bit of a mixed bag, but does contain some quality horror moments:

Also just finished Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty
, which was interesting.Just started
The Vital Question: Energy, Evolution, and the Origins of Complex Life.
Dave said the Enron book he read recently was really interesting and quite frightening. You'd probably find it interesting, David.I'll get the title off him when he wakes up.
I've just finished reading Jason K Lewis's story Paradise, and while it's well written, it's really the first few chapters of a book that isn't out yet:

Looks interesting. I think I have heard of it before. I've added it to my wish list.
I just started American Gods by Neil GaimanIt's not wonderful, but is readable. It's blummin long though :)

I liked American Gods, but in general I find him a very self-indulgent writer - for that very reason I disliked his collection of short stories.
Natasha (Diarist) wrote: "Just finished Foundation by Isaac Asimov.Just started Expecting Someone Taller by Tom Holt. Funny!"
I tried a Tom Holt and found it decidedly un-funny.
Perhaps I'll give the one you just finished a try.
As I mentioned in Darren's thread, I've started Heart-Shaped Box
It's very good so far.

I've been told that Doughnut is the one to avoid, Patti. I've not read any of his others.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "The one I read had sausage in the title. Can't recall what exactly the title was."Two duff ones by Tom Holt? Yikes.
I read Tom Holt's earlier books when I got into Pratchett and Rankin. They were hit and miss.I liked his Portable Door series.
I read Doughnut a month ago and had to look to see what it was about. I gave it 4 stars as I quite liked it.
I see I gave Sausage 3 stars. I think it was a bit messy.
Just finished Dying Light
which was excellent. Highly recommended.Just started
The Silver Pigs, looking interesting.
Just finished Danger by Association: The Riverhill Trilogy: Book 3 which was a great and exciting climax to the Riverhill Trilogy. A great look at the gangster culture from the point of view of the women in their lives.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

by Jim Butcher.GP was the start and SK was the finish. Was interesting and I was happy enough with them. Pleasant voice.
Kath wrote: "I love the Falco stories, David."I thought I'd seen someone on here mention them, but I couldn't remember who it was.
I'm only a few pages or so in, but it is looking good.
She's excellent on the history but carries it lightly. The humour is great and I love the characters.
