No one interesting in Bunty, Judy, Schoolfriend and Girl was ever called Elizabeth. Perhaps because we could never get our heads round sardines with ginger cake.

We didn't have sardines though.
Another myth destroyed! Enid Blyton, you lied - Mallory Towers will never be the same. We must go and each have a restorative swig of ginger beer.
Averting my eyes, I report that I have finished Churchill's Black Dog and Other Phenomena of the Human Mind
and started The House on the Strand
by Daphne Du Maurier.
I really loved House on the Strand and read it many times. Hope you get as much pleasure from it as I.I also just bought the second Harry Dresden had the first since 2011. I got to stop coming in here, I'm buying too many books. I just can't keep up with them!
I've just finished Call Me By Your Name. So intense and introspective. So far from my usual action thrillers, but so good.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just finished fiction North and South for a GR group (Victorians) and non-fiction Orientalism (for another GR group All About Books) and just started the non-fiction End of the Past.
Geoff (G. Robbins) (The noisy passionfruit) wrote: "H is for Hawk sounds very interesting, Noor. I've bought it and look forward to reading it. Thanks for the post."Geoff, what did you make of H is for Hawk?

Thanks Pat. I'm not sure at the moment - I love the 14th century bits but can't help feeling I'd rather the whole novel was a straight historical. Will see how I get on with the rest of it.

I'm looking forward to reading this - it's next in the TBR :-)
I just finished The Man in the High CastleThis is my review — https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just started Fahrenheit 451
David! Thanks for your ace review. Thrilled with it, especially the dialogue comment as I always try to get that ultra-realistic! Not seen much Pinter but I'm seeing Timothy Spall in The Caretaker next month :)
Finally finished Kindred!!! It was awesome and now I am way behind on my work. I can't wait for the next instalment.
Just finished The Monkey's Raincoat which was brilliant and pacy especially after the 3 PD James' I'd read before. Just started Stalking the Angel
Out today - though I read it a while ago from netgalley - The Missing Hours Four strars from me.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Reading another Jodi Picoult 'Leaving Time'. She writes good books about so many interesting subjects.
Just finished Nature's Domain: Anne Lister And The Landscape Of Desire by Jill Liddington, 1832 real life diary of the seduction of wealthy heiress Ann Walker by social climber Anne Lister. Good stuff.Just started Very British Problems: Making Life Awkward for Ourselves, One Rainy Day at a Time by Rob Temple, a light read to accompany the wonderfully funny and clever Country Of The Blind by Christopher Brookmyre.
I'm finally almost finished Aztec.Might try a Diane Chamberlain next. Which was the one you read recently, Kath?

I've only read one of hers but enjoyed it
I've finished David Haynes' latest release 'Boo!' and it's a must read for all clown fans :-)

Finally finished Larger than Life by Jodi Picoult, shows how hard I found the subject matter that it took me so long to read a novella that stops at 87%. There were some high points but doubt I'd read the novel this is a prequel to. Started and nearly finished Mindbend I haven't read one of his for a while, some bits are a tad unbelievable
Just finished my village book group's book for May The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy. I'm not always happy with follow-ups but this isn't a sequel - it's in parallel. It's absolutely charming, tragic and funny all at once. http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just finished Europe in Autumn
which reads as a near-future thriller after the collapse of Europe, until a rather neat twist near the end sends it even deeper into SF territory. Written with a nice sense of humour, but does end rather abruptly - there is a sequel though.Just stared
1356 which may or may not be part of the Grail Quest series.
I just finished
by Ray Bradbury. This is my review:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just started To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf.
Started and finished Mindbend - not the best Robin Cook book I've read. Now starting my first classic of the year Mary Poppins: The Complete Collection
I've posted my review for Jonathan Hill and Kath Middleton's latest collaboration Is it Her? and it's a cool idea and a fantastic read:

Just finished a classic horror from Will M J.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just started The Disappearance by Annabel Kantaria. I pre-ordered this but I have no idea why! Must be going loony.
Just finished re-reading
and just started
I'm re-reading the Robert Crais Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series and really enjoying it. The humour is brilliant and the books are really pacey.
