I've just finished reading Jonathan Hill's latest novella The Anniversary and it's up there with his best - highly recommended. You can read my review here:

Finished Full Dark House:
. Nowhere near as good as book 2 of the series. I wouldn't have either bought or borrowed most of the rest from the library if I had read this one first. Now on a re-read of a classic read as a child - Stig of the Dump
I won 12:07 The Sleeping in a Giveaway so I am currently enjoying a creepy read. I think I might leave the light on tonight...
Just started The Kashmir Shawl and Swords for a Dead Lady to add to my collection of 10% reads. Also reading Restoration and A House Divided. Enjoying all of them so far. Just finished The Third Rule - Part One: Atrocities which I shall review shortly if I can keep my New Year brain in focus.
Andy is currently re-editing The Third Rule, Lexie. The whole thing will be shorter but it's still a mighty tome!
That's good to know - I'll maybe wait before buying the next one then, so I can get the director's cut! Really enjoyed it.
Finished Stig of the Dump
. Still deciding what to read next out of my huge collection of paperbacks....
Pam wrote: "Finished Stig of the Dump

Great! I hope you enjoy it :)
Lexie wrote: "That's good to know - I'll maybe wait before buying the next one then, so I can get the director's cut! Really enjoyed it."I'm delighted you enjoyed the 'old' part one, Lexie. The other two parts won't be on sale for much longer. I've chopped out nearly 70k words, and will be re-launching it soon.

Don't think I saw the TV version; might have been the wrong era though I saw some of the classic TV adaptations of children's books, such as Tom's Midnight Garden.
Just finished I Am the Great Horse by Katherine Roberts. It's the story of Alexander the Great's exploits and conquests as told by his horse. Meant for young adults, it's very well written and quite funny. They say no man in a hero to his butler - they might have added that a horse is still loyal, even though it knows all your faults!http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Finished my first official book of the year, Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie, not my favourite of hers
I should have started the King, Patti, but when I finished A Much Arranged Marriage I've just gone on a Websterfest instead and re read Benor from the start...
Will wrote: "I should have started the King, Patti, but when I finished A Much Arranged Marriage I've just gone on a Websterfest instead and re read Benor from the start..."Always a wise move! Apparently the UN are hoping to designate October as Websterfest on the grounds that getting everybody reading the books will induce a general sense of world peace, love and cynicism
works for everybody, people will forget how many copies they've bought and will repeated buy multiple copies!
I'd like to think so. I've always been somewhat heartened by how many perfectly sensible ladies love him to bits :-)
Kath wrote: "There's one here! At least, I think I'm sensible..."
I remember one lady telling me she had been complimented by someone who said "But you're far too wise to be sensible"

Nice!
Can I recommend we don't combine roofrunning and beer drinking? While I think I think I would be a better roofrunner after several pints, before several pints I'm pretty sure I'd be appalling drunk or sober.

And I'm on Swords for a Dead Lady, working my way through in the order of a roofrunner after many pints.
In one of the books Benor does restrict the drinking when he's taking somebody with him, certainly I've never regarded it as a hobby to be taken up after the amount of beer than makes it look easy :-)
Just finished Crisis by Ken McClure, enjoyed the concept, although the typos did annoy me. Now starting The Abduction of Mary Rose.
Thriller/mystery by Russell Cruse Head Count Full of twists - really enjoyed this.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just finished Trigger Warning: Is the Fear of Being Offensive Killing Free Speech?
which was a pretty good defence of free speech and why it is so important.Just started
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind which has been mentioned here a time or two.
Just finished my first book on my kindle Knots And Crosses by Ian Rankin Entertaining enough although ended very abruptly. Will continue with the novels although may not be my next read. Undecided.

A brilliant trilogy by Andrew Barrett
Andy writes damn fine stuff, Pat.Thanks for that Trigger Warning, David. I'll have to get it. The school counsellor, Dave and I have been having a long conversation by email on that very subject for a few months.
Jim wrote: "I remember one lady telling me she had been complimented by someone who said 'But you're far too wise to be sensible'"Reminds me of a top quote from one of my favourite authors and gurus, Byron Katie:
"Don't be careful. You could hurt yourself."

It is a pretty decent book and a straightforward read. Maybe it could have gone a bit deeper for me.
Just started Mr Mercedes by Stephen King last night. Certainly hits the ground running. looking forward to reading it over the coming days/weeks. its the first King novel ive picked up in years. used to love his stuff growing up.
Just finished The Wise Man's Fear
, which was absolutely excellent, possibly even better than the 1st book in the series.Very highly recommended.
Just started
Little Black Lies
Adrian wrote: "Just started Mr Mercedes by Stephen King last night. Certainly hits the ground running."My favourite book of last year, Adrian. And I'm reminded of it daily, in traffic. ...
Used to love Stephen King; read them all from the early years but they then became more and more bloated and also repetitious of ideas from one to another. So haven't read any for quite a few years.
Just finished The Wise Man's Fear, not decided if it's a 4* or a 5* yet.Just started Global Domination for Beginners Enjoying it muchly, so far.
If you like psychological mystery/thriller stories then David Staniforth's VOID is the book for you. It's a mystery which the reader unfolds alongside the characters. Excellent stuff.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I gave Wise Man 5*, which is unusual for me.
You've reminded me I must get around to Global Domination soon too.
