Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Just finished Chili Con Corpses (A Supper Club Mystery, #3) by J.B. Stanley which was one of the freebies, shame it's book 3 in the series & all the others are a bit pricey. I haven't decided what to read next - I should finish The Moonstone before I move on to this month's books................

Judith Starkston | 27 comments Today I finished Next to Love set in America in the years 1941 to 1965. It's told through the eyes of three women and the way WWII changed their lives and their men and everything that came after. Here's my review.

message 903: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Janet I think you should give up on Moonstone!!

message 904: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments had to go back a page and check I posted after I finished my last book, and I did so yay! although just realised i've cut my finger, now it hurts.

I finished Broken City last night, stayed up too late to finish it now I'd exhausted but called into Tesco and got a bottle of kick so that'll keep me going. I really enjoyed it, could see Dd's personality coming through in the writing. Now i've started Words to the Wise which is intriguing so far to say the least.

Aunty Janet (janetauty) | 296 comments Oh Jud, I used to get through gallons of kick when I used to work nights. I liked the cranberry sugar free version best.

I dipped in and out of Willie's stories - because they are so nice and short, I could read one or two when the mood took me, in between other reads.

Yes I really enjoyed all the plotting and the characters in it, and I have just noticed there is a second book :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments The 2nd book The Digital Wolf is just as good, and the 3rd should be out in December! Yay for Jon Rosenberg!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Having just had the world's longest bath while finishing three books, I'm now ready to begin Words to the Wise while my toes de-wrinkle.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Awwww shame that wasn't last night, Ollie would have loved to talk about your wrinklies !

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just finished Words to the Wise which was amazing, thanks again Ignite, and have just started Mort which I'm loving already

message 919: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished reading Cycles, Tents and Two Young Gents which I really enjoyed. Then I couldn't make up my mind what to read next - although I intend to read at least some of the group reads, I wasn't in the mood for any of them yet. I read quite a few rubbishy free romances, mental holiday - most of them not worth mentioning, I think that the best of the bunch was Speed Dating. I do go through phases every so often where I just want to read undemanding rubbish, and enjoy it for a while - but then I feel sick of them and go back to more serious stuff. Not quite serious, but definately not rubbish and is well-written - but I'm now having a run on MC Beaton sale bargains and working my way through the second half of her travelling matchmaker series. Finished Beatrice Goes to Brighton this morning and have now started Deborah Goes to Dover this morning.

:0)

message 920: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I agree Jud ,if it were not for Ignite chosing it for the group read I would probably never have read it.Anyway finished yesterday and have started Feedback by Nick Spalding.

message 921: by Mo (new)

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments Just finished The Kult which I found a really good read and I am just starting The Magical Maze: Seeing the World Through Mathematical Eyes but I may think about starting one of this months books as well.

message 922: by Mo (last edited Nov 08, 2011 03:33PM) (new)

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments Oops got waylaid so I have now just finished Words to the Wise which may give me nightmares. So now I will start The Magical Maze: Seeing the World Through Mathematical Eyes unless I get sidetracked by something else again.

message 923: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished Mort which is my favourite Terry Pratchett so far, then I started My Lady's Money which was a lovely wee story, not too much to think about but wasnt a complete veg out brain dead read which I finished last night which was in perfect timing to download the newly released Inheritance its huge so I think it will take me a while to get through it

message 924: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Finished Darren's The Sword in the Tree a day or so back so I'm now reading his Stormwreckwhich is absolutely amazing. This is literature, people!

message 925: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Nov 11, 2011 01:44AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Finished Words to the Wise last night, which I admit I found hard going. I'm looking forward to the discussion.
I then read the first few pages of Darren's Stormwreck which I think I'm going to enjoy but have decided I need something a bit lighter first, after the dreariness of Cornelius' book. I've not decided what yet. Perhaps The Great Rock N Roll Doomsday Tour. I'll dip in and out of short stories today and settle into another novel this evening, I think.

message 926: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't got to the group reads yet, I intend too but haven't been in the mood.

I finished reading Mr. Darcy Forever yesterday, the last in Victoria Connelly's Austen Addicts trilogy - and I think that it is the best written yet. The only problem is with the formatting - not so much typos as words missing and wrong words used in the context. Needs another proof read. Enjoyed reading it though!

Now I'm reading Sweet Ophelia and really enjoying it! It was free a while ago so freebie collectors may find it on their kindle already (it's not free now but it's only 99p). It's really good. A romance, but not in the usual mode, not slushy but well written with good characterisation. I can really recommend it.

That sounds an interesting way of doing it.
I read what I am told to read (at least with the current book - which I am enjoying Darren. I would have read more but was very tired last night)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Janet, I've come to a point where I want to read everyone's book right now, so I'm having a bit of trouble. And I hate choosing (maybe it's got something to do with my star sign I don't know). So I make a list, random.org makes the choice :) Been working fine so far !

I was going to say what is your star sign..........but it was your birthday recently wasn't it, so you are probably Libra like my little brother.

message 931: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yes, you're right. Is your brother having the same problem making decisions?

message 932: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Has anyone read stuff from Dean Koontz? What is it like? I heard people mention him on here I think. Grabbed The Taking from a new bookshop that's opened in town, they've got a few of his paperbacks for £2. Just wondering if it's worth opening of it can just sit on my bookshelf and look pretty :)

message 933: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I read a Dean Koontz book a few years ago. Can't even remember the name - just remember the red cover.

Without a doubt one of thee most disturbing books I have ever read. Needless to say, TOTALLY not my thing!

message 934: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Oh cool ! Disturbing is so my kind of read !

message 935: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Koontz is a great author. One of my favourite novels is The Bad Place. Another is Lightning

message 936: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I prefer the mindless books that I don't need to think about at ALL. Hence I'm struggling a bit with the first Pratchett novel. Too confusing. Too much brain power involved!

message 937: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Thanks Shaun :) If he's got your seal of approval he must be good indeed :)

message 938: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I really like Koontz too. Can't recall any titles, though...

message 939: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Cheers Patti. Here, have a memory pill, it might help :)

message 940: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh. The pill worked. The Odd Thomas books are really good.

The kindle editions aren't cheap though.

message 941: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yea that's why I thought I'd buy the ones at £2. Was going to buy two then I put one back down, think it might warrant a trip into town to get the other ones lol ! The other one was an Odd Thomas one, but the blurb said something about the return of Odd Thomas, so I thought there wasn't much point in having this one if I didn't have the other ones. I think I'll get those and then I might just get the ones I don't have on kindle if I ever get to read them !

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Shaun wrote: "Koontz is a great author. One of my favourite novels is The Bad Place. Another is Lightning"

I thought Lightning was a really good book. I much prefer him to Stephen King.

message 943: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments It's not the first time I hear that Geoff. Either you said it before or someone else thinks the same as you :)

message 945: by Maureen (Mews) (last edited Nov 12, 2011 03:54PM) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I read a few Dean Koontz books about 10 or so years ago, I was going through a horror phase (Stephen King, James Herbet, etc). The first couple I read were really good (wish I could remember the names), then I read a couple of stinkers and didn't go back to him.

I can be ruthless like that sometimes with authors. But so many other good books to read and so little time is the way I justify it.

message 946: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Fair enough Maureen :) Hope I got a good one lol, this could be what makes the man in the bookshop open up or go bust tomorrow lol !

Geoff, that wasn't a criticism :) on the plus side shows that I do pay attention !

I didn't take it as a criticism Lorraine, I'm far too thick skinned for that.;) I do have a habit of repeating myself.

message 948: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Well I never noticed until now Geoff :)

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments You are very generous Lorraine.

message 950: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I graduated from Stephen King to Dean Koontz some years ago. I will now confess that I think Darren Humphries' Stormwreck is in the same league. Stormwreck If you haven't tried it and you like this sort of dark, supernatural thriller type of book, give it a go.
