David Hadley Just finished The Burning Land The Burning Land (The Saxon Stories, #5) by Bernard Cornwell , which was pretty good. Although, I can't help wondering that if he is Utred, son of Utred, why is he not called Retred.

Anyway, just started Without Fail (Jack Reacher, #6) by Lee Child Which is Jack Reacher doing Jack Reacher things.

message 9255: by David (new)

David Hadley I never really got the hang of Snoopy and all the others. I'd never heard of Rerun before now.

When you click "add book/author", you get the option to select either link or cover, Pam.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Oh, thanks David but I'm not sure where that is - I've been doing it with a href tags manually.

Ah! Just saw, there's a link above the comment box - right I'll try that next time!

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Pam wrote: "I've been doing it with a href tags manually."

I did that for the first year or so too, Pam. I also used to add book covers with the img tag! I was amazed by how much HTML knowledge people across Goodreads seemed to have. ....... :-)

message 9259: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Yes, I was thinking I probably had to use the img tag but I thought I'd ask in case there was some easy shortcut - and there was!

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Just finished How to Write Fiction Sales Copy How to Write Fiction Sales Copy by Dean Wesley Smith , still reading Red Moon and Black Mountain, and have started Discoverability by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.

Well that half worked - Discoverability brings up 100s of results and so does the author, so had to resort to the old school method for that last one.

I've never had any interest in reading historical dramas. They've never appealed to me, but this was a free proof copy offered in exchange for a review about it. So I thought, "Why not."
I'm SO glad I did! I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Heady mixture of a plot. Historically accurate. Couldn't put it down.

I'm a big fan of Neuromancer, but I don't think its aged well.

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments I read My Family and Other Animals for the first time recently and loved it - I know it's dated and some of the attitudes are no longer acceptable, but the humour, the knowledge of the animals and the description of such an extraordinary upbringing were great.

David Hadley Just finished rereading Fugue For A Darkening Island Fugue For A Darkening Island by Christopher Priest , it is from the early 1970s and is about how a war in Africa causes a large number of refugees to come to the UK and what happens then.

Interesting, huh?

It uses a not-linear cut-up narrative, so may not be to everyone's taste. Christopher Priest is one of my favourite UK SF authors, but this is one of my least favourite of his books - Still worth reading though.

Just started rereading Rama II (Rama, #2) by Arthur C. Clarke Rama II. The first Rama book was one of the books that turned me into a SF addict in my teens. But I remember being underwhelmed by the follow-ups. Be interesting to see if I still feel the same about this one.

message 9283: by Kath (new)

Read that a while back. Thought of it as a graphic novel with way too much graphic.
No literary pretensions. Good thing that, as it had none.

David Hadley Just finished Without Fail Without Fail (Jack Reacher, #6) by Lee Child , which was the usual Jack Reacher stuff.

Just started A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson A God in Ruins - which starts poorly I think, but eventually gets into its stride.

Hope it is as good as Life After Life.

Yes, an oldie but DEFINITELY a goodie! Though I enjoy science fiction, I haven't read that much of it. After a short time on the internet, the general consensus was that this is one of the must reads of the genre.
Absolutely loved it. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
