Try this: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...
if it amuses then you can tentatively take a few steps closer to his oeuvre.
If not, then Jeeves would probably advise to step smartly in the opposite direction.

I think I'd love his stuff."
If you want to try it for free, there is a fair wodge of his stuff over on Gutenberg:

:-) Thank you!

Picked up four paperbacks for a pound in a charity shop and this was one of them. It's probably Young Adult (which sums me up perfectly) but it's a good story, well written and I enjoyed it :-) Not quite sword and sorcery, more alternative Venice in the 16th/17th century

Orcy .. wasn't she the one that wrote the Scarlet Pimpernel?

I've just reviewed William Meikle's tale of cosmological horror The Dunfield Terror and it's a worthy read for Lovecraft fans and horror readers generally:

15% through The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Loving it.

Thanks for that Michael. I was thinking of getting that at fantasycon, but for some reason didn't - have to search for a copy now.

Harrowing book, that. Has stayed with me for years.

Lovecraft is not for summer evenings

Best reserved for midnights dreary!

Each author has written on the subject of holes and the stories are very different.
Now I'm reading I Am Malala https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Too young for me and too many inconsistencies in the story so didn't really enjoy it.
Looking for something spooky for my next read but not sure what to go for.

I always enjoy Rebus books, it's like putting on a pair of old comfy shoes.

Yes, this is my life.
We all agreed that Bookers, Orange and Pulitzers are completely meaningless.

(The fact I was long listed 2014 has nothing to do with that opinion)

Possibly the best ghost story ever."
Definitely. He's a wonderful suspense writer - nothing ever over-explained.

Just started rereading (perhaps the 4th or 5th time)

I have just started Soul Meaning by [Author: A.D Starrling]. I tried the sample on Amazon and liked it, so I am now starting the rest. It's just my kind of escapist fiction: reality with a hint of fantasy.

I'm reading some MR James this weekend.

I like The Mezzotint, too, but they're all good. Hope you enjoy them, too!

I've decided to do a gothic horror for Nanowrimo, so pre reading more James will get me in the mood

I know this stayed at the top of the bestseller lists for WEEKS and I don't want to be a party pooper, but I found this a REAL slog to get through. No word of a lie, I nodded off whilst I was reading it in parts.
I won't put you off as you may love it (just as so many people did) but if I had to sum it up in one word - LABORIOUS.
I'll post a link to my review for you but it's probably best to read it after you've read the book as contains many spoilers. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I hadn't heard of this until I met a random on a walk a few weeks back. She spent some time overwhelming me with her enthusiasm for this book.

Apparently it's all in the writing, not the storyline, Patti.

This is why this forum is so brilliant. I'd not noticed that book and I read/loved Edna O'Brien's early books, so now off to get this one. Thank you.
Have just finished a v good gripping read, The Other Child, and now started another Lucy Atkins, The Missing One, which is jumping about and a bit confusing at the mo, but I hope will settle down shortly!

I've just finished reading Rick Haynes' debut novel Evil Never Dies and it's an action packed tale of heroes and dark evil:
