Try this: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...

if it amuses then you can tentatively take a few steps closer to his oeuvre.

If not, then Jeeves would probably advise to step smartly in the opposite direction.

Anita | 3313 comments Half way through the Mightier Than the Sword and seemed a bit fed up so I decided to start Thief's Magic it's a long time since I have read any sword and sorcery and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

message 9060: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21811 comments I've just read the City of Masks
Picked up four paperbacks for a pound in a charity shop and this was one of them. It's probably Young Adult (which sums me up perfectly) but it's a good story, well written and I enjoyed it :-) Not quite sword and sorcery, more alternative Venice in the 16th/17th century

Alison (a1ison74) | 95 comments Just finished YA fantasy Blonde Eskimo by Kristen Hunt .

Too young for me and too many inconsistencies in the story so didn't really enjoy it.

Looking for something spooky for my next read but not sure what to go for.

Yes, this is my life.

We all agreed that Bookers, Orange and Pulitzers are completely meaningless.

David Hadley Just finished rereading The World According to Garp The World According to Garp by John Irving , not as great as I remembered, but still quite good.

Just started rereading (perhaps the 4th or 5th time) The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin by David Nobbs The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin Super. Great.

Gavin Parsons (gavinparsons) | 19 comments I just finished Bring me the head of Turlington Jones, which I know is my book, but I've been working hard to get it published.
I have just started Soul Meaning by [Author: A.D Starrling]. I tried the sample on Amazon and liked it, so I am now starting the rest. It's just my kind of escapist fiction: reality with a hint of fantasy.

I know this stayed at the top of the bestseller lists for WEEKS and I don't want to be a party pooper, but I found this a REAL slog to get through. No word of a lie, I nodded off whilst I was reading it in parts.
I won't put you off as you may love it (just as so many people did) but if I had to sum it up in one word - LABORIOUS.
I'll post a link to my review for you but it's probably best to read it after you've read the book as contains many spoilers. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I hadn't heard of this until I met a random on a walk a few weeks back. She spent some time overwhelming me with her enthusiasm for this book.

This is why this forum is so brilliant. I'd not noticed that book and I read/loved Edna O'Brien's early books, so now off to get this one. Thank you.

Have just finished a v good gripping read, The Other Child, and now started another Lucy Atkins, The Missing One, which is jumping about and a bit confusing at the mo, but I hope will settle down shortly!

David Hadley Just finished reading Contact (Alien Invasion) Contact (Alien Invasion Book 2) by Johnny B. Truant , which was meh. This is now looking like a series that would be better as a single book.

Just started Edge of Eternity (The Century Trilogy, #3) by Ken Follett Edge of Eternity, which is the third book in the series.
