David Hadley Just finished Red Country Red Country by Joe Abercrombie , which was pretty good. Abercrombie's books, though similar(ish), are much better than Game of Thrones.

Just started Blood Sisters Katie Maguire by Graham Masterton Blood Sisters: Katie Maguire, which is yet another Katie Maguire book, and could well turn out to be as good as the others in the series.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Who was it said they really enjoyed Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore?

I've started it and so far it's stonking!

message 8968: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I think I recommended that one to you, Pattie. Regardless, I loved it :~)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments David wrote: "... That Old Rosie looked a bit pokey, Stu!"

I beg your pardon??

I really enjoyed Mr Penumbra and his bookstore, it was David who recommended it to me.

Alison (a1ison74) | 95 comments Just finished Wendy Darling: Stars

I'm going through a fairytale phase at the moment and am loving all of the retellings that are around. As you can probably guess it's based on Peter Pan. Found it quite dark and creepy. Peter is like the pied piper or some kind of cult leader and Neverland is pretty dangerous.

Good story, occasionally too much description and excessive use of similies but really want to read the next one as it ended on a cliff hanger.

message 8972: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I just started Gorky Park It's a long book and so far, quite descriptive (colour of walls, what's on the table etc).

Seems OK and reviews are glowing.

Gorky Park isa very immersive book as are all Martin Cruz Smith's books. I love them and Renko is a great character.

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, which was pretty odd.

Just started Wilt by Tom Sharpe, which is pretty amusing.

message 8976: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Just finished Aoife's Chariot by Katherine Pathak, which was a bit underwhelming. I'm giving Ann Cleeves' Vera series a go - I didn't much enjoy it when I saw one on television but tried again and quite liked it, and I'm now enjoying the book. It is very different from her Shetland series in feel, and the lead character is well-imagined and unusual without seeming a freak.

I've read The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451 and am left with the impression that the guy is a nutter.

message 8979: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments A clever nutter, though.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments If you stopped all mad authors from being published, there would be severe depletion in the bookshops.

And really, really long sentences, brimming with commas that, however, really work and aren't annoying, at all.
