D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Have you ever read Georgette Heyer, Lori? They are romantic adventures, quite a light read but often very funny! They are Regency romances....not sure if thats a genre you like! What sort of books do you like????

message 852: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments No DD although I've heard of her, there's just so much stuff worth the read, I'm having information overload !

message 853: by [deleted user] (new)

Well - I started Mighty and Strong and it's very good, but I was finding it too upsetting when I was dealing with something upsetting at home, so I switched to something lighter, but fully intend to go back to this. I'm a bit delicate with thrillers - not just gore (which I don't like so skip read) but also the tension. It took me two attempts to read Six Seconds! Why not go for that one then while the story of the Righteous is fresh in your mind?

I have no intention of reading facebook killers as I know that I couldn't cope with it - but I've read lots of people on amazoo raving about it.

Diagnosis Death and Medical Era are both faith books. I've read them and enjoyed them, but not everyone will like that. They are not as gripping as Michael Wallace et al.

:0)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I vote for hunger games, its being made into a movie/tv series so you want to have read it before you go see it (if you go see it)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments awwww ... I think I might have to resort to bits of paper and picking from a hat !

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm having exactly the same dilemma as you at the moment, Lorraine. I think I'll just throw a dart at my TBR.

Unless Darren's email arrives soon.

message 858: by [deleted user] (new)

We'll have some new choices soon too!! The November reads I mean!!

:)

message 859: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Ha! I love that I am on 20% through a book AND know what I'm going to read after I finish. This is a feeling I don't often have. It's nice!

message 860: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yea Jud lol... much better than being at 95% and not knowing...

Ollie would have the same problem as me. He can't even choose between two menu options for his lunch, so try and guess what it's like for a dozen books !

Knowing him and how he behaves, he'd ask me for the whole list because he'd want to see if there's something better ! He does that in the toy shop... we go in for something and we'll always come out with something else...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I read The Name of The Wind on the way to the US and really liked it, so this morning I went looking for the next one. It seemed a lot more expensive so I went to put it on my wish list for the moment.... and discovered that it is not available in Europe, only in the US!!! Arrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I know! Talk about backsliding. I learnt my lesson, had to hold the book with 2 hands most of the time and i could lay it down on a flat surface and have it stay open!

No Shaun it was not too gory for me (just about!) I finished it last night - stayed up far too late to finish it in fact!!
I'm going to try and clear out some freebies now - but going to be ruthless and bin things I can't get into. Too many recommendations on her to waste precious time

Glad to hear it (the part about it not being too gory I mean, not the staying up late!).

Janis Moore | 22 comments Busy working my way through a stack of "real" books so Kitty is having a little rest.
Just finished Daughters of Fortune and just started London: The Novel. Off to read for half an hour - mind reading a real book is strange.

Edited as can't spell/type!

Audrey (Seaholly) | 219 comments over the last week I have read. 1The Blue Suitcase which I enjoyed immensly 2 The Water Warswhich was a good book and made me think, 3 NO GOOD DEEDliked this and have downloaded the next one.( not my usual read) While We're Far Apart was quite a predictable end but an uplifting story which i will recommend. I have just started Let the Right One In cant seem to get in to it. This is abook I thought would be good as it is the genre I used to read the most. The kindle has changed my tastes.

Tried reading it but couldn't get into it at the time :/

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Facebook Killer, Shaun? I am surprised! I thought you'd enjoy it. Perhaps it just wasn't the right story for your mindset at the time. That happens to me frequently.

message 877: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments I tried reading it but nothing much seemed to be happening at the beginning, and if something doesn't grab me within the first few chapters I move onto something else.

message 878: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I do the same. Too many good books out there to waste time with one I'm not enjoying.

message 879: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I agree Patti, reading time is short enough & must be enjoyable at all cost.I used to feel a little guilty if I had paid for a book & didn't read it but I always passed them on to other folk & was quite happy when someone else enjoyed it. It's a good job we all like different things.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Not reading it very fast, I don't know what to say about it yet... have you read it Patti? Shaun, what have you been reading ? I think a recommendation from you might help fill the Prosper Snow void for a little while before Book three comes out :)

The last book I read that I really liked was Hunger Games. It took a while to get into, but once it was under way I thought it was really good. The second one I wasn't so keen on, and I haven't read the third one yet, but I'll get around to it.

I've heard some good stuff about the Hunger Games... I have it, but it's somewhere in my very long TBR. Obviously it's more important that I get through your books first, but trying to space them out until the next one comes out but it's hard... erm.. I wonder if I'm addicted....

Catalina (katgabriella) | 169 comments just finished One Day and i already miss the characters. its been a long time since i fell in love with a book's characters, the way i did with Dex and Em. D. Nicholls did an amazing job with this book. Such good writing, such thrilling story, and a totally unexpected end, at least for me.

No idea what to start next. Still reading O Alquimista, so i might wait until i finish that one as well
