Me too.
Just finished Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind Awesome book. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it and when I was reading it I didn't want it to end.
Michael wrote: "Just finished Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind Awesome book. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it and when I was reading it I didn't want it to end."Yep.
Really interesting book, that.
Just finished Dead Man's Land
, which was very good indeed. Recommended.Just started
Wayward, which is the 2nd book in the Wayward Pines series. I really liked the first one, so I hope this one is at least as good.
Just finished The Wreck Of The Margherita by Bill Todd. Private detective stuff. Really exciting and enjoyable.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

Will wrote: "Patti (baconater) wrote: "Michael wrote: "Just finished Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind Awesome book. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it and when I was reading..."Sounds like a good 'un. I've moved it up my list.
I've just finished reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons and it's a cracking sci-fi read - check out my review here:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I'm pleased to see more people reading Sapiens. We should do a discussion thread. I'd have to re-read bits before I could discuss it, though. Been a few months since I read it.
Just finished my first Val McDermid! The Skeleton Road - really enjoyed it. And very helpfully, she'd put all the romance back-story in italics so I didn't have to bother to read it! Now started the first of Lindsey Davis' books with Falco's daughter Flavia Alba ( I love the Falco series) The Ides of April - am delighted they are written in the same lively witty style, with a real feel for Roman society. Great fun.
I was listening to some of those on it i-player last week - even better, it was a couple of the books I hadn't read!
I've just finished The Mermaids Singing and am now onto Suspect by Robert Crais. I got a lump in my throat a only few pages in when reading about Maggie's devotion to her master!
I've just finished re-reading Clive Barker's The Hellbound Heart and it remains one of my favourite of his writing:

Old school, horror at its best.
Finished Scarpetta, struggled to get into it but enjoyed it. Then read Keeper of the bride, enjoyed it and half way through a short story collection

I've not read that one! Loved Weaveworld, though.
Just finished Prodigal Sister by Laura Elliot. A really nice summer read - an intricate set of family relationships and a nice change from all the murders!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just started An Invincible Summer by Lily Rose Graham. I'm on the lighter stuff for a bit and I really enjoyed her novella 'the postcard'.
Just finished Wayward
, which was not as good as the first one in the series.Just started
The Crow Trap which is the first of hers I've ever read, but I do like Vera on the telly.
Finished The Ides of April which was great fun - will hve to download more of the series now! - and hve now got into Gorky Park which is brilliant. Can't think why I didn't read it before!
just finished Follor You Home by Mark edwards which was great, and the twist at the end was very well done. also just finished listening to Lustrum by Robert Harris and can't wait for the 3rd book in the series due out in October. Now reading In The Blood by Steve Robinson. I too, enjoyed the ides of April.
Just finished a lovely contemporary summer type fiction book An Invincible Summer. It's so nice it'll read itself!http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just begun a not-yet-published so we'll see how that goes. Well so far!
Just finished Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I wasn't overly enamoured with it. This is my review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Just started Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. It's pretty long so I might read some shorter books at the same time.
Karen wrote: "Finished The Ides of April which was great fun - will hve to download more of the series now! - and hve now got into Gorky Park which is brilliant. Can't think why I d..."Gorky Park sounds interesting Karen. I'll add it to my to-read list.
Gorky Park is very good. Give the film a miss. Yet another book that is so much better than the film.
On those recommendations and the fact it's just £1.49, I just bought Gorky Park. It's a big looking book, over 500 pages.

Just read your C- 22 review, Guy. I didn't think it was that good. DNF list!
Joo wrote: "On those recommendations and the fact it's just £1.49, I just bought Gorky Park. It's a big looking book, over 500 pages."That's the beauty of the kindle - no idea how long it was! Perhaps that's what put me off originally. That, and I think I'd seen the film (can't remember, it was that good...)
I've just finished reading William Holloway's novel Lucky's Girl and while it's a familiar tale, it is well told told and a decent horror read:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Started Surviving the Fog this week, got 10% in and thinking of ditching. Still working my way through the short story collection, lot of espionage type, which aren't my thing. Also started Roadside Crosses. Given up on my non fiction book for a while.
Ive just finished reading Starstruck by Brenda Hiatt yesterday an i started reading The Whispers of the Fallen and im just about a chapter in, it seems promising :)
Finished my short story collection, mixed bag, as short story collections tend to be. Am wondering why I bought the second one.
David wrote: "Just finished Silent Scream. Really enjoyed it.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."
I enjoyed it too, but I thought her second, Evil Games was even better. The character of Kim felt more rounded.
I finished The Wrong Stuff which was fantastic and now I'm reading Eye of Dominion (I'm in it you know! Well okay... My name is in it)
Just finished The Crow Trap
, which was pretty decent. Just started
Wizard and Glass, which is a Stephen King book, which is all that needs to be said about it.Just finished The Story Grid: What Good Editors Know
, which is excellent for when you have a first draft and don't know what to do next, or even if you think you know what to do next.Just started
Writing the Breakout Novel.
Kath wrote: "Guy wrote: "Just finished Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I wasn't overly enamoured with it. This is my review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Just started [book:Anna Karenina|15823..."
I was fairly disappointed Kath, but my expectations were very high.
I've just finished reading William Hertling's The Last Firewall and it's my favourite of the series so far:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just finished
by Lee Child and just started
the next in the Jack Reacher series. First read these a while agoa and so far am really enjoying the re-reads.
Just finished
by William Gibson, and must say, it didn't age well.Just started
by John Green. It's been on my Kindle since forever, and now there's a film out it's time to get it read! Lots of teeny angst & 1st person, but the writing is good despite that, and it draws you in (at least in the first couple of chapters)
Just finished Roadside Crosses, I enjoyed it but a tad annoyed by all the references to the last book. Ploughing on with Notes from a Reluctant Magistrate on kindle, reading a Linda Fairstein paperback although I've smashed my big books challenge and think I'm Ok for my favourite author's so might change that

Dunno. I'd have a to do a comparison, I suppose.
I know I enjoy more books that I've seen reccied in our just finished, just started thread than I find anywhere else, though.
