Just finished - just started
Just finished The Front Runner on recommendation of two people who independently said this was a book which changed their lives - for very different reasons. Some things have changed in my lifetime. Some, not enough. Really wonderful stuff, I thought.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished The Back Road
which I liked, but not quite as much as the first one.Just started
WeaveworldAlso just started rereading The Power and the Glory
.

[book:We..."Goodness I had forgotten Weaveworld ! I read it when it first came out and loved it, think I better go and buy it again. I'm not a huge fan of Clive Barker but that book was really good.

I've just finished Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty (great book) and am now reading Is This All There Is? by Patricia Mann in exchange for a review for another group
Just finished My Sister's Keeper, it was Ok. Now going to read [book:The Secret Life of Bletchley Park: The WWII Codebreaking Centre and the Men and Women Who Worked There|7961760 , gets some negative reviews but I don't know much about the subject
An Astronaut's Guide to Life on EarthI blitzed through this on a recent plane journey, loved it! Fascinating life story and very readable.
I finished Is This All There Is? on Wednesday night and have now started This House is Haunted by John Boyne. It's been a while since I've read a Victorian-style ghost story so am looking forward to (hopefully) getting the creeps tonight!
Loved Weaveworld! Don't think I'll re-read it, though. Don't know if I'd enjoy it as much. Think I've read it a couple times, though.I'm still really enjoying Will's Global Domination for Beginners.
He's a deft hand at showing the soft side of a megalomaniac.
Fans of humour with really good characters will enjoy it.

I had thought I may have read it before, but I don't think I have.
I keep putting off reading books by people in this group and other indies because I want to start doing reviews of the books, but I never seem to get around to it.
Just finished The Third Rule - The Complete Story
by Andrew BarrettA brilliant book that I struggled to put down once half way through.

I think all authors prefer honest reviews - it's part of what helps us write better or know that we've hit the right spot!

Aw thank you, David, for your wonderful review. I'm utterly delighted you enjoyed it, really. Made my day has that.
Just re-read and reviewed Chukotka by Lucas Bale. It appeared in an anthology a while ago but it's now available alone and is a great example of why many of us love his writing.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just started - a little volume, as yet unpublished, by a Mr Barrett. So far so damned good!
I've just finished reading Salem's superb novel Black Hole Butterfly and this type of esoteric sci-fi is just the sort of thing that I love. In fact it's one of my favourite reads this year so far!

Just finished The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins and really enjoyed it (my review). I see what you mean about the negative reviews, Kath. "This is a book for people who don't read" and the reviewer hates them for making this book popular, along with books like Fifty Shades of Grey. Ouch.
Just started Hush by Sara Marshall-Ball, about a young girl who stops speaking after being involved in a friend's death. 10% in. Rather enjoying so far.
I've just finished End of Days which I really, really enjoyed. I've now started American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It's the first time I've read anything of his but am enjoying it so far. I find myself really liking the main character, Shadow.
Michael wrote: "American Gods is an excellent read."It's getting turned into a TV series, is it not?
Today, I've mostly been reading http://www.amazon.co.uk/Londons-Stran...No goodreads link, it seems.
Interesting tidbits but the author uses rather too many exclamation marks!
Just finished Just One Damned Thing After Another. I listened to it on audible cos it was cheap. This was probably a mistake.Maybe I've read too many kids time travel/history romp stories, cos this feels like another one, both in the way it's written (simplistic, short sentences) and narrated. Even though the characters are all adults. And you're listening to this nice PG-13 narrative, right up to the point when it suddenly goes, er, stiff. Literally. Not that I have a problem with that - I just wasn't expecting it.
Anyhow, it was engaging enough that I might pick up the next one, although I fully expect this book to appear in next year's 'bad sex awards'
next up: Top Banana
Oh I don't mind violent - my own characters often meet a violent end, and I don't mind the graphic sex (although mostly it reminds me why I don't attempt to write graphic sex scenes!). I was just lulled into a false expectation by the writing/narrating style of this one.Next time I'll know in advance!
BTW, I notice the author also writes under a pen name, that is the same as one of her baddies!
Mr. MercedesIt's not that long ago I read it for the first time, so I'm surprised I don't remember it more vividly. Or not.
I'm getting old.
I take joy in knowing Darren will always be older than me, though. :)
I've just finished reading William Hertling's Avogadro Corp and it's a fascinating look at emergent AI, but could have done with a bit more character development:

just finnished the final time hunters book by Carl Ashmore. i loved it and going to miss the characters a lot. now reading Close to the Bone by stuart Macbride. enjoying it so far.
Kath wrote: "I agree, Steven. Time Hunters has been brilliant from start to finish. Wonder what will come next?"Well according to his newsletter, he's been working on a screenplay for book 1.
Just finished Death of an Officer's Lady which was as good as all this series - in fact, the better you know the characters, the better the books get.http://www.ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk...
Just finished Mr Mercedes. Can't decide if I should start Finders Keepers or The Kitchen House or a light fantasy now.Hmmmmm

Thanks, Kath!
I've just finished reading Kath Middleton's comedy debut Top Banana and despite being almost as far from my usual reading as you can get I enjoyed it a lot:

Let's be honest, Michael. You HAD to say you enjoyed it. The consequences of not toeing the line are too nightmarish to think about :)
