Michael Brookes (technohippy) I'm reading What Would Satan Do? at the moment and I have to say it is very funny.

David Hadley Just finished The Straw Men which was reasonable, although it did lose its way towards the end.

Just started The Quarry, which was his last book, so sad in a way.

message 8156: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments So I have just read

The Illegal Gardener (The Greek Village Series, #1) by Sara Alexi The Illegal Gardener
Black Butterflies (The Greek Village, #2) by Sara Alexi Black Butterflies
The Explosive Nature of Friendship (The Greek Village, #3) by Sara Alexi The Explosive Nature of Friendship
The Gypsy's Dream (The Greek Village, #4) by Sara Alexi The Gypsy's Dream

Then broke off that series to read a couple (or several) light and fluffy books.

Now I'm just starting A Walrus in Oxford (Little Wychwell Mysteries Book 7) by Stella Stafford A Walrus in Oxford which is the latest book in a series.

Then I think back to Greece.

message 8157: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished rereading A Clergyman's Daughter, which was pretty good.

Just started rereading The Mote in God's Eye, which I remember (just) first reading it in the 1970s and have always intended to reread it one day.

message 8158: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I haven't read Mote in God's Eye for years, but read it a couple of times when it was comparatively new out and enjoyed it

Yes. It stuck around in my mind for years after I read it first too. I have a feeling I may have reread it back then too. I can remember reading it on holiday in Wales, waiting for the rain to stop.

Just picked that up (The Mote in God's Eye), it's one I've always meant to read but never actually got round to!

I remember being impressed by it a a teenager in the 70s. I'm interested to see what I'll make of it now, all these years later.

Absolutely brilliant.
And only 99p atm.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments Finished Never Look Back - Clare Donoghue. Now going to read Slim to None - Jenny Gardiner.

message 8167: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Ruminations by Debbie McGowan. Corking stuff about newly arrived university students. Thoughtful, funny, a complete winner for me.

http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

Just started Andrew Lawston's Something Nicer, which I can't find on here. :(

message 8168: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Just finished The House on the Cliff , first of a new series, set in Wales, with a psychotherapist main character doing the detective work. I enjoyed the bit of psychoanalysis in it and the family setting is very true to life. So I have now started her next book, Black Valley, which is shaping up well. A very nice writing style.

message 8169: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Andrew Lawston's short stories, Something Nicer - sorry, no link here yet -
http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

Just started - well, 10% into, That Dog Won't Fly which, although I'm enjoying the story, is driving me mad with its non-standard use of punctuation in quotations. I shall persevere - probably.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments As most of you know, I finished reading Darren's WIP London Dark last night and I'm now suffering terrible book hangover. Can't settle into anything. Nothing seems as good.
I'm gonna try Hearts in Atlantis I think. Have only read it once before years ago, so should it feel newish. Stephen King never lets me down.

message 8171: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I abandoned - at least for the moment but who knows? the previous book and have got a huge way into The Lost Daughter by Diane Chamberlain. It was 59p yesterday. Not that I'm a cheapskate or anything. ;) Very good stuff!

message 8172: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Diane Chamberlain writes good stuff.

message 8173: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's the first I've read from her. I doubt it'll be the last.

I've only read one of hers, but enjoyed it. Might see if it's still on offer. Actually, that is the one I read, it had a different name.

message 8175: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) What Would Satan Do? by Anthony Miller

I've just finished reading Anthony Miller's novel What Would Satan Do? and it's the funniest book I've read in ages. It's a five star funny read - check out my review here:

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Just started Faust 2.0 by Michael Brookes, A Painted Doom by Kate Ellis, and A Long Time Dead by Andrew Barrett - all looking good so far! This is because I've cleared off The Atholl Expedition, The Case of the Locked Drawer, and Silence of the Mimes, all enjoyable in very different ways.

message 8180: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You're a multi-tasker, Lexie!

message 8181: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished The Quarry which was pretty good indeed, but sad that it was his last book.

Just started Revival, which I really like so far.

Out today but I got an early copy. Very different but all good.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished The Lost Daughter by Diane Chamberlain, which seems to have been issued with at least two and allegedly three different titles. Am I alone in thinking that's a bit naughty? I really enjoyed the story, though, in spite of my pet grievance that the last 5% was bits from other books. Hate that, loved the story.

Anita | 3313 comments Couldn't sleep last night so finished The Unquiet Grave and will,be starting Imperfect Strangers tonight after a few chapters of The Magic Faraway Tree as Evie is coming to stay tonight. Tomorrow I am taking her to choose a new book using her World Book Day token.

I don't like that either (although I am assuming that you have the percentage wrong)

I have just finished Carter's Conundrums and liked it enough to download the next book in the series.

message 8190: by Kath (last edited Mar 03, 2015 03:36AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Haha! You're right, Janet - the last 5%. That would have been the world's fastest read. Better go and change it!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Kath wrote: "Just finished The Lost Daughter by Diane Chamberlain, which seems to have been issued with at least two and allegedly three different titles. Am I alone in thinking that's a bit nau..."

I hate it when they do that - 5% I can cope with though, it's when it stops at 50-60% I dislike it. It is better with kindle books though, it's more frustrating when you have to take extra paperbacks to account for the bits from other books (that I never read)

Graham Garrity (grahamgarrity) | 45 comments Just finished The Star Of The Sea An absolutely brilliant read.

message 8193: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments Read and finished Embryo - J.A. Schneider. Was a great thriller with a medical twist. Now on to the Into the Darkest Corner - Elizabeth Haynes. Can't wait to see where this is going to take me lol.

message 8194: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm still working my way through Hearts in Atlantis.

Either my memory is absolute shite or this is the first time I've read it. Can't say it's the best Stephen King I've ever read but it's still good.

message 8195: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments Just finished the intriguing Into the Darkest Corner - Elizabeth Haynes, a good thriller and into a mind of a psycho. Now I am off to read Crosshairs - J.A. Schneider, to carry on the series where I left off.

message 8196: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished war 2.2 by Jim Webster. Great characters, subtle humour - I do have trouble remembering loads of made-up names, though. Probably my age!

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Also just finished a sequel by Sheila Perry to her set-in-the-future book The Mountain and the Flood. The sequel is The Petitioners but isn't on here. Anyway, it's a jolly good, sound four star read and if there's more of this series I'll be in there!
