I've posted my review for Mark Anson's fascinating science fiction novel 'Acid Sky':

I'm now onto '100 Nightmares' by K.Z. Morano and if you like dark drabbles and short fiction (and I do!) this should be on your TBR list.

Now 32% through A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen, which is lovely.

I've posted my review for K.Z. Morano's superb collection of horror drabbles '100 Nightmares':

I'm now onto The Devil and Preston Black by Jason Jack Miller.

very strong short fiction inspired by a young man's dream diaries.
not sure about the next, but thinki it will be

I think it's because there is no really central character, even though the promo pieces I've seen talk about it as #1 in the Hackberry Holland series. If you're uninitiated, (as i was at the time! I don't read book blurbs before I read the book) and don't know what to expect there are 4 characters who could actually be the main characters, so you don't know where the book is going. Should this be a problem - i don't know!
I've just started reading #2, Feast Day of Fools and as you're pretty much straight into reading about Holland you know he is the lead. Because of this (I think) I'm already enjoying it more than #1.

I've posted my review for Jason Jack Miller's excellent 'The Devil and Preston Black', it's a wonderful read and you can see what I thought of it here:

I'm now onto Fag by Jonathan Hill and it's powerful stuff so far.

I also finished

It isn't out until the end of this week, though.

Just started The Stranger by Albert Camus, reading simultaneously with the French version.

It's going to be a slow read, Stuart. My French is rather rusty these days. I'm about 0.0001% through ;-)

Not sure next. Think I'm going for The Round House, but am swithering.

Just started re-reading Shock Wave by John Sandford. Really good fun (again) as all the Virgil Flowers books are. I love the character and the humour. Not to mention the murders, mysteries and the detection methods employed!!

time for a small break now I think
Just started Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - not impressed so far - but not even thinking of giving it up yet - .::

I have posted my review for Jonathan Hill's superbly written and emotive debut novel 'FAG':
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I'm now onto a bit of sci-fi with 'Ship of Storms' by Ken Doggett.

Yes, I did indeed! Thanks Patti,

Ah, I'm a big Cadfael fan - I read them as library copies originally, years ago, but am delighted they're now on kindle so I'm enjoying re-reading them.

Her writing is really lyrical, isn't it?

Have now finished this one. I am surprised how nasty some of the comments are on the reviews. Really not necessary. Poor woman I feel really upset for her. I enjoyed her book ok it was light but no need to rip into her like that. I am sickened by how some folk seem to get pleasure in hurting othes.

Cheers again for the review, Michael.
Just finished the superb Two Boys Kissing . I'd call it a must-read for pretty much everybody.

I've just read this too, on Jonathan's recommendation. It's really thought-provoking for someone my age - if you read it you'll see why. It's beautiful and lyrical while being deceptively simple. I'm just getting myself into review mode.

I know other groups demand it to the point of deleting.
We only gently suggest that Simon wants his yacht.
Me?
A couple of rashers and I'm happy.

Really strong story Broke my heart to read it. So well done.

I totally recommend Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan, too. it's such a beautiful book. I'd challenge anyone to be homophobic after reading that.

I did spot one 'review' of someone admitting to not having read it and one-star-ing it anyway. ...

She happily gave herself away. She was proud to one-star such filth.

Well said, Kath.

27% in and enjoying it
Any one else read this?"
No, but I'm really excited about reading it. It's 5 or 6 away on my TBR list. Yay.

I agree with Kath that the chances of someone strongly homophobic reading this are slim. This sort of book is perfectly placed to target those growing up. To reassure and to make people question their attitudes and opinions before unchangeable homophobia sets in.

Yes. Precisely why I used the word "challenge" :-)

Agreed. And let's hope so.

Bump it to the top. It is well worth it!
Kath said Oh yes, Pat. I found it really gripping. Although I sometimes didn't understand his reasoning when he got to grips with problems it was a
compelling read. The last bit is amazing!
It certainly is I did nothing all day but read it
not quite finished at gone midnight, just had to stop my eyes were burning!
Michael said Yes, it was an excellent read!
It is indeed. Wish I had started it sooner I have to go shopping now and all I want to do is finish it!

Just started The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing.
And The Martian by Andy Weir is bumped up a little bit :-)
