I'm now onto '100 Nightmares' by K.Z. Morano and if you like dark drabbles and short fiction (and I do!) this should be on your TBR list.

Now 32% through A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen, which is lovely.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished The Last Battle it was a bit disappointing it was pointless really the last battle was not very dramatic and I don't really understand how they won or what it was they were actually fighting. The first two were good and I would recommend them if you like those kind of books.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12601 comments Finished Ultimate Justice, didn't enjoy it as much as Guaranteed Justice, but looking forward to the next one.

The Last Tiger by Tony Black

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Just finished Rain Godsby James Lee Burke. Thought it was on the pretty good side of OK, and wondered why, given that i love his Roubicheaux series so much.

I think it's because there is no really central character, even though the promo pieces I've seen talk about it as #1 in the Hackberry Holland series. If you're uninitiated, (as i was at the time! I don't read book blurbs before I read the book) and don't know what to expect there are 4 characters who could actually be the main characters, so you don't know where the book is going. Should this be a problem - i don't know!

I've just started reading #2, Feast Day of Fools and as you're pretty much straight into reading about Holland you know he is the lead. Because of this (I think) I'm already enjoying it more than #1.

David Hadley I finished Writer Dad by Sean Platt which was okay.

I also finished Eleanor by Jason Gurley which is excellent and I'll be adding it to the book recommendations list. If you like Stephen King, Neil Gaiman type stuff then you will - probably - like this.

It isn't out until the end of this week, though.

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen which, as no doubt you all know, is a lovely memoir by a recovering heroin addict in London whose life is turned around when he finds and looks after a homeless cat.

Just started The Stranger by Albert Camus, reading simultaneously with the French version.

It's going to be a slow read, Stuart. My French is rather rusty these days. I'm about 0.0001% through ;-)

message 7266: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Worth taking your time with anyway! Mine is full of pencil marks from when I studied it in French Literature back in school in the eighties!

Nigel Bird (nigelbird) | 167 comments Just finished Once A Warrior by Anthony Neil Smith. It's a wonderful thriller with a few brutal moments. Particularly apt given the news this week about the Cardiff and Aberdonian young men who've shipped out to fight for their cause. It's really well written and gripping. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Once-Warrior-...

Not sure next. Think I'm going for The Round House, but am swithering.

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Just finished Feast Day of Fools by James Lee Burke. Really enjoyed it. Will have to get the Billy Bob Holland books next.

Just started re-reading Shock Wave by John Sandford. Really good fun (again) as all the Virgil Flowers books are. I love the character and the humour. Not to mention the murders, mysteries and the detection methods employed!!

Really should try and read some Grimm's before starting another book

Have now finished this one. I am surprised how nasty some of the comments are on the reviews. Really not necessary. Poor woman I feel really upset for her. I enjoyed her book ok it was light but no need to rip into her like that. I am sickened by how some folk seem to get pleasure in hurting othes.

I've just read this too, on Jonathan's recommendation. It's really thought-provoking for someone my age - if you read it you'll see why. It's beautiful and lyrical while being deceptively simple. I'm just getting myself into review mode.

I totally recommend Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan, too. it's such a beautiful book. I'd challenge anyone to be homophobic after reading that.

I agree with Kath that the chances of someone strongly homophobic reading this are slim. This sort of book is perfectly placed to target those growing up. To reassure and to make people question their attitudes and opinions before unchangeable homophobia sets in.
