Dustin | 7 comments I just finished the ruins. i usually dont read horror, but the movie was good. now im reading a book called Ourra by sean kristan, which is fantasy. I'm finding it pretty good. I'll be done tonight, then Im gonna re-read game of thrones

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12601 comments Started a Lee Child book and Ultimate justice, both of which are good

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I need to read more, if only there was more time. I finished Ruth Rendel's Portobelo ages ago, and have started nothing new.

message 7204: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments On Saturday I finished Get Anyone to Do Anything by David J. Lieberman, which was excellent. And A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf, which became incomprehensible and a bit of a chore again.

I'm now 40% through Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, which I'm rather enjoying.

I see I have to mither you into reading another book.

A Minette Walters, I think.

Hmmmmm

Which one?

message 7206: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments On another forum someone has just announced that a writer should try to read at least one book a day. I can only assume that she doesn't write much, or doesn't sleep (or indeed work, do housework, feed family, talk to cats, talk to anyone else ...)

message 7207: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Monster Avengers by Rosen Trevithick

I've posted my review for 'Monster Avengers' by Rosen Trevithick and 300 monstrously talented children and it's a monstrously fun read :-)

http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I'm now onto 'Voyeurs of Death' by Shaun Jeffrey - the first story was excellent.

Voyeurs of Death by Shaun Jeffrey

I can't stand not reading every day!! I think Patti's recommendation of Minette Walters is a good one, I have one of hers to read this year.

Blimey - I think that is only possible if you read really short books, or as you say, don't do much else!!

message 7209: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I make sure I have at least an hour for reading every day, but reading a whole book a day would mean I didn't get anything else done :-)

message 7210: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I read for several hours every day and it still takes me 3 or 4 days to get through a book.

message 7211: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I kind of hope that was a typo/grammatical error and she meant to read from a book at least once a day rather than starting and finishing an entire book once a day

And never read Virginia Woolf.

message 7213: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments always read Virginia Woolf! ;-)

message 7214: by Debbie (new)

Debbie McGowan (debbiemcgowan) | 245 comments Not been in here for a while - sorry everyone! I've been editing a good few stories for an anthology, so my "just-finished-just-started" would be a novel-length read in itself.

However, aside from the anthology editing I am "reading" The Magical Tragical Life of Edward Jarvis Huggins by the fine Mr. Stuart Ayris.

message 7215: by Lexie (new)

A very good plan! It's awesome. I'm prepping it for print at the same time as reading it, or that's what I'm supposed to be doing, but I have to keep forcing myself not to get sucked in!

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Stuart wrote: "always read Virginia Woolf! ;-)"

I can't spot any Virginia Woolf on your shelves, Stuart. Are you resting?

Hah! You wonderful lady!

message 7221: by David (new)

David Hadley Started reading The Blunders of Our Governments by Anthony King , Writer Dad by Sean Platt and Eleanor by Jason Gurley - this last one isn't out officially yet, but it looks good so far and has been compared - in a good way - with Mr Gaiman's Ocean at the End of the Lane. He does his own covers too and this one is lovely.

message 7222: by Dustin (new)

Dustin | 7 comments good suggestions here, i like the sounds of Voyeurs of Death, thanks everyone

i would recommend Ourra by sean kristan, i got a few of my friends to read it and they all liked it.. and any of the Shannara books, they shockingly hadnt heard of those before either

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Juggling Balls and I'm waiting for the author to reply to his PM!

David Hadley Kath wrote: "Just finished Juggling Balls and I'm waiting for the author to reply to his PM!"

He's replied hasn't he?

Or at least he thinks he has.

message 7225: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Nope. :)

message 7226: by David (new)

David Hadley Kath wrote: "Nope. :)"

He has sent another reply, or so I hear anyway.

Feel free to shout at him if this one doesn't turn up either.

David Hadley Kath wrote: "Message received and understood. Roger, wilko - oh no, that's a shop. :)"

Anyway, I'm glad that mystery is resolved, if not solved. Wilko to me is a guitarist rather than a shop, but that just shows where my priorities lie.

message 7230: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I finished Push a couple days ago. I don't usually read 'woe us me, my life sucks' books but I read this because of a reccie from a friend at work.

Seeing the language evolve as the book went on was fascinating and very well done but the events were very disturbing.

Seems the book was made into a film.

message 7232: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) A double dip of reviews today, the first is an interesting short story called 'The Face of God' by Christopher Owen:

And going to start The Fault in Our Stars later, to see what all the fuss is about. :-)

message 7234: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I just finished The Dead Room by Robert Ellis
This was a serial killer mystery legal thriller and I rather enjoyed it.
I am now reading a pre-release that is so out of my normal reading choices. However, nothing this author has written would normally appeal to me, but he's a great writer and I enjoy reading his works.

message 7235: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Mysterious! :)

message 7236: by Paul (new)

I really enjoyed Extremely Loud. Are you reading it in paperback rather than Kindle? There are quite a lot of "visuals" in it that might not be as striking on the kindle.

I just finished God Is an Astronautwhich is really really good and just started Suddenly Last Summer. Which is a totally different read, one I won't have to think about, just enjoy.

Hmmm.

Claire rated it five stars and DM only gave it two.

SabrielI mean.

I do like the friends reviews and ratings thingy in here.

message 7247: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (Spiderg1rl) (spiderg1rl) | 734 comments I do too it gives you a general idea of thoughts from potentially like minded readers. I'll admit to only being 8% in so it has plenty of opportunity to go bad but also plenty of opportunity to surprise me.

I like that her powers seem to be surrounded by death it's an interesting take on the usual I have strong magic, all shall bow down to me type strength.

message 7248: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Just finished One Shot by Lee Child. It's the first Jack Reacher story I've read.
I only bought it Friday and I didn't get a chance to read yesterday, 495 pages.
It is a good thriller, a good story. It's the sort of book I'd call a summer read. It's a 'carry in your pocket and read when you crash out' sort of paperback. I cannot see me buying new ones, but I suspect I'll keep my eyes open in charity shops ;-)

message 7249: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I agree with you on Lee Child Jim. Easy reads: easy to pick up and put down at any point in the story.

message 7250: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lee Child = brain candy.

I prefer a nice, juicy Jackie Collins. :D
