Sam Kates David, I loved Imajica so much I reread it every few years. If you're reading it for the first time, I'm a little envious.

message 7002: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) The Great and Secret Show was another of his that I enjoyed.

message 7003: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just finished Meridon which was a nice but bit of an anticlimatic end to the Wideacre series after everything that happened in the first and second.
I'm reading Summer now and struggling a bit with it but I'm halfway through, it's a bit 'blah'

message 7004: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins, which was pretty interesting, but rather taxing on the brain cells.

Now relaxing with a short crime/thriller, The Bank Manager and the Bum by Darren Sant.

message 7005: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Gave up on Summer the protagonist was beyond infuriating, I'm really unimpressed by it. Annoyed that I wasted my time reading 51% of it but at least I saved time on the remaining 49%. I don't even care that I don't know what will happen.

I started That Bear Ate My Pants! and it's much more enjoyable

message 7006: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just read The Dark Winter by David Mark. It's not indie (my usual fare) but I read it for the local book group. I've given it five stars - I really enjoyed it - but it's not indie so it doesn't go on the blog.

message 7007: by David (new)

David Hadley Sam wrote: "David, I loved Imajica so much I reread it every few years. If you're reading it for the first time, I'm a little envious."

It is looking very good so far.

That is another of his I've heard of and thought I may have read it, but realise that I haven't.

message 7009: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Struggling to get into something - abandoned A Death In Tuscany as it was sooo slow and the formatting is terrible. Tried and abandoned a couple of others (fussy, ain't I?) but now... 20% into Seb Kirby's Forgive No More and the pace is hotting up - now I'm hooked!

message 7010: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I loved all the 'No more' series, Karen!

message 7011: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Great, isn't it!

message 7012: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished The Bank Manager and the Bum by Darren Sant.

Just started The Illuminatus Trilogy, book I: The Eye in the Pyramid by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea. 6% in and it's pretty trippy so far. Haven't the faintest idea what's going on, yet I'm enjoying it.

message 7013: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished A Brief History of Infinity The Quest to Think the Unthinkable by Brian Clegg which was pretty good.

Just started Armchair Nation by Joe Moran which looks as though it could be interesting.

Sam Kates Just finished The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce

Don't want to say too much as it might spoil it for others, but I enjoyed it. Truly touching in parts; a little mawkish in others. Although you can say of most books that different people will take different things from them, I think it's especially true of this one.

message 7015: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I just finished The Time Hunters and the Sword of Ages (Volume 4) by Carl Ashmore
It's the best one yet.

message 7016: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've got to read Harold Fry for the village book group later this year.
I agree Joo! Blummin' great!

message 7017: by Sam (new)

Sam Kates I don't think you'll find it too much of a chore, Kath. Even if you don't like the tale, it's very well written

message 7018: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments OMG, I won a copy of Eeny Meeny - M.J. Arlidge on Goodreads Giveaway as well as a copy of Take Mum Out - Fiona Gibson.

What a wonderful early birthday presents too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12601 comments Just finished Impeding Justice by our Mel, was going to read Final Justice next but now going to read one of the novelettes instead. Must crack on with my bathroom book

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Horror Stories by Alan Toner

I've just finished reading Horror Stories by Alan Toner and it was a decent collection of horror stories:

http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I'm now onto Abra-Cadaver by Matt Drabble and it's off to a good start.

Abra-Cadaver by Matt Drabble

message 7022: by David (new)

David Hadley Just started To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee as far as I can remember I don't think I've read it before.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments One of my all time top favourite reads David!

David Hadley Rosemary (the Fourth Plinth) wrote: "One of my all time top favourite reads David!"

It does seem to be well-liked. I don't really know why I've never got around to it before.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Imperfect Strangers

Gripping thriller and most unexpected. A great read!

message 7026: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments I've just finished the delightful but robust Tragic Desires - A.M. Hargrove. Now I am about to read Daughter - Jane Shemilt.

message 7027: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Abra-Cadaver by Matt Drabble

I've posted my review for Matt Drabble's horror novel 'Abra-Cadaver', it's a fun read but the execution quite live up to the promise of the start:

I'm now onto Remission Praxis by Mike Freeman

message 7028: by Nigel (new)

Nigel Bird (nigelbird) | 167 comments Just finished my review copy of the very good The Dead Beat by Doug Johnstone (out today and recommended) and just starting a short story collection called Hoods, Hot Rods, and Hellcats(2 stories in and happy so far).

message 7030: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Just to say, finished the last book of the trilogy last night, I still think it's one of the finest Fantasy books ever written :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12601 comments Just finished my second doorstop book, a Mary Higgins Clark trilogy. Trying to finish my other paperback, Monster by Jonathan Kellerman, then Its a Dogs life by Mel, and then carry on with Mel's series. Next paperback will be a Harlen Coben book. And might read a bit of Grimms Fairy Tales, but really not enjoying it.

message 7032: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished The Magicians' Guild and started The Novice (both DTB's) I also finished That Bear Ate My Pants! and started Treespeaker (kindle)

message 7033: by Guy (new)

Guy Portman (guyportman) Almost finished Ham on Rye. Enjoyed it just as much as Post Office.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12601 comments Finished two books today, Monster and Its ADogs Life. Any dogovers should read Mel's book. Now reading Final justice and The Front, by Patricia Cornwell, a non Scarpetta book

message 7035: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished The Novice and was disappointed to find out that I don't own the 3rd one in the series, it's £5.49 on kindle so I think I'll trawl a few charity shops first and see if I can pick it up.

Still reading Treespeaker it's really good :o)

David Hadley Guy wrote: "Almost finished Ham on Rye. Enjoyed it just as much as Post Office."

I read Post office and Women Women by Charles Bukowski & maybe one or two others of his years and years ago. I ought to find time to give Ham on Rye a go.

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Diary of the Displaced - Book 2 - The Broken Lands by Glynn James by Glynn James.
I was going to read Part 3 for my challenge, but realised I didn't remember book 2. Except my GR list says I read it in June 2012.
I know I got a bit confused with the side books, and I thought I had read it, but on re-reading it, I'm 45% through and don't recognise much. Still, I'm enjoying it and it's only about 90 minutes long.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Guy wrote: "Almost finished Ham on Rye. Enjoyed it just as much as Post Office."

Both stunning books. My mate runs The Rising Sun pub in Chelmsford and he has dedicated the pool room to the Beats and Bukowski - there's photos on the wall and a bookcase with their books. It's named rather grandly The Bukowski Suite!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I know what you mean, Joo. I'm currently reading a Ruth Rendell I thought I'd read before. Even had it marked as read on goodreads.

It's totally new to me. And very good!

Steven | 173 comments following the death of the genius Sue Townsend, i've been re reading the Adrian Mole series recently. Currently reading the 5th diary the capeceno years. also recently finished Game of Thrones by some bloke called George r r Martin lol and thought it was fantastic. I'm not a big reader of fantasy, but this one had me gripped. I've got all the others to read but taking my time with them as he seems to take several generations to write each one and I want to make them last!

I'm glad you didn't give it away - this is the July book for our village book group.

message 7045: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Bob wrote: "I'm considering giving up on Gone Girl. Will I be the first not to finish it?"

I didn't find it credible and I only finished it because it was a village book group read (on the principle that you can't complain if you haven't finished it!).

message 7046: by Sam (new)

Sam Kates Kath - even if you don't enjoy the storyline, I think you'll appreciate the quality of the writing so you should have little difficulty finishing it for the book group.

message 7047: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments which is that, Sam? Harold Fry? My husband's read it and enjoyed it.
