Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Am working my way through Patricia Highsmith's Ripley books, so hve now started The Boy Who Followed Ripley. I love her plotting and the elegant yet economical prose. It is just so perfect.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished Wish which was a bit naff but improved as I got further in to it and I ended up enjoying it a lot. No idea what to read next

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished The Diary of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith. Pretty damned funny (my review).

Just started Pages for You by Sylvia Brownrigg, the Lesbian Book Club's book of the month (romance genre). Student-teacher relationship.--Right up my street.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I started After Dark in the end :o)

message 6708: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Sinclair | 939 comments Started the Ian Rankin last night in bed. Saints of the Shadow Bible. It's immediately drawn me in, but then I love Rebus as a character and Edinburgh as a setting. It's dark, but the dialogue etc is witty and the plot as topical as ever. I just know it's going to be a winner.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Ethan Justice: Incendiary by Simon Jenner. Excellent and exciting!

I'm doing a bit of beta-reading for the next few days. I hate that term but I can't think of a better one!

Am looking forward to reading 'Saints' but I need to get down the TBR pile a bit more first.
Have now finished The Boy Who Followed Ripley in my Ripleyfest. Didn't think it was as good or as suspenseful as the earlier ones. Just got Ripley Under Water to read now. I've really enjoyed her style.

David Hadley Just started Collected Poems by Ted Hughes

Or fly up, and revolve it all slowly -

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I finished The Cabinetmaker by Alan Jones by Alan Jones
Mainly set in a 70s Glasgow CID station, so the language is a bit uncouth, but it's more than that. It goes on to be the relationship between a rookie CID officer and the father of the murdered boy and spans decades. A rather good read.

message 6714: by David (new)

David Hadley Just started Ravenfold by Kath Middleton , which is - apparently - a romance, so I'm told.

Liking it muchly.

message 6715: by Kath (new)

Goodreads needs a 'like' button sometimes. I'm halfway through now and enjoying it muchly too. I wouldn't call it romance so far. :)

MUST be romance, 'cos there's a wedding with a dashing, sexy bridegroom and everything.

message 6721: by Debbie (new)

Debbie McGowan (debbiemcgowan) | 245 comments Just finished Family Ties by Hans M. Hirschi. Hans recently wrote a blog post explaining that he is fluent in 12 languages, and English is not his first, but he writes very well in it. I think there is an element of grammatical peculiarity about the narrative because of this, but it is an incredible book.

Just starting...no idea, to be honest. I'll decide at some point this evening, when I'm done editing my current WIP mess!

Natasha - I've just read the entire sample of your book on Amazon! I didn't even realise until it said, "Enjoyed this sample?" I guess that's a 'yes'!

You've been snooping in my diary??

Am planning to dive into your excerpts tomoz, Debbie, when I've recovered from the homebrew :-) #bookmarked

Oh yes! You did kind of leave it out in the open!

Good luck with the homebrew recovery!

And to bring it back on topic...

Just started: Lesbian Crushes and Bulimia: A Diary on How I Acquired My Eating Disorder.

Which of yours do you think I might enjoy most, Debbie?
(I'll check them out myself tomorrow too :)

message 6738: by Debbie (new)

Debbie McGowan (debbiemcgowan) | 245 comments Not sure - what do you read? Possibly Double Six? I'm basing that on what you write though.

You wrote a damn fine book. I liked it lots and lots.

So, where's the next one, then?

message 6740: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished: Ravenfold by Kath Middleton , which was excellent.

Just started: Unicorn Western by Sean Platt which is a western... with added unicorn.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Whoo! Glad you enjoyed it, David!
Next one's written but it will be out late Spring or early summer, I suspect. Got to give Ravenfold its moment in the sun first!

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Debbie wrote: "Not sure - what do you read? Possibly Double Six? I'm basing that on what you write though."

That question was just so hard last night! Was cross-eyed on homebrew by that time :-) Favourite books of last year were The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling and The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.

It's a hard question actually. I like lesbians and comedy and Bill Bryson. I don't like historical fiction. ... Um?? ...

Second play I ever wrote was about an ahem Joy Division fan 5 years on. Went up to the Edinburgh Fringe with it!

message 6747: by David (new)

David Hadley Ha. Coincidences eh?

I only hope you had more success with the play than I had with the novel.

It all seems so long ago now. Except those days when it seems like only yesterday.

message 6748: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished Unicorn Western. Not bad - a western with farting unicorns and magic.

Interesting idea too. The way these authors make the first book of each series free, then offer discounts on buying the whole collection in one go.

Funnels they call them in their Write. Publish. Repeat..

Ha don't think so! Our venue in Edinburgh was a bus station and every so often the play was punctuated by announcements of buses pulling out. It was appropriate for a piece about urban alienation though!

Only just saw this - sorry! I'll stay with Double Six then! You're welcome to try any of them and give up though, if they're not your cup of tea.

I've read your book. In one day! Amazing!
