Just finished Raising Steam, I really enjoyed it but I aM a Discworld geek AND live in Swindon (quite a theme in the book). Just started Saints of the Shadow Bible and I cannot put it down. Football aside today, this could be a one sitting book

Finished The Cold Dish , the novel that introduced Sheriff Walt Longmire to the world. A sure hand with the alpine Wyoming setting, an engaging leading man and a grade-A sidekick are undone by an out-of-character first-person narrative voice and a lack of dramatic seed corn to move me on to the next installment. A&E does it better on Longmire, showing us what could've been. Three stars and some change, rounded down.

I've been away for a few days so had quite a bit of reading time while on the Eurostar.
I finished Capital which I quite enjoyed. It was quite intriguing as to where all the familys linked together. I then tackled my pile of older books on my Kobo and read Casino Royale. I was quite surprised at how very close the film was to the book.
I'm now reading City of Lost Souls to finish off the series.

Just finished Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies: The Screenwriter's Guide to Every Story Ever Told, the follow up to Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need. Not as fascinating as the first one, this one applies Snyder's story structure to a heap of films and how a good structure can make a story work.

I would definitely recommend the first one to anyone who has problems with plot and structure in their writing, even though these books are meant for screenwriters, story is story, and so us fiction-wallahs can learn a lot from his method.

I've not posted in ages, but have been reading plenty. Think I'll have to put them up in bulk. Read The Turtle Boy which was OK but didn't live up to the hype: a bit disappointing. Then onto The Kite Runner which I have to give five stars to although I think it's the most depressing book I've ever read, mainly because I didn't like the main character. Then onto The Violin of Auschwitz - four stars. Then I just read the three books of Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Saga back to back. Thoroughly absorbing and have been good for nothing else while reading them.
Not sure what to read next, must try to get my life back in order first.

Anyway, I'm about half way through and struggling with it...

I loved Bateman's Mystery Man - not read Divorcing Jack yet but I've got another Bateman buried on the kindle somewhere - it'd make a welcome change from Finders Keepers

I was recommended Colin Bateman because I loved Quite Ugly One Morning by Christopher Brookmyre. I did enjoy the Bateman, but it didn't match the Brookmyre.

Started and finished , they were raving about this on R4's Good Reads prog recently, and being Alan Bennett I thought it sounded great, It was good, I suppose, but not as great as I'd expected.

Started - one of the few Levin books I've never read. It is quite old 70s era, but looks interesting. I tend to like his books, which are - of course - better than the films, even though the films of his books are often quite good.
