How funny Karen, I couldn't stand the True Blood series, I read the first book and won't be touching the rest even if I had to read them to save my life! All my pals loved them though. As our Ignite says, it would be a boring world if we all like the same thing.

I read the first one of the trilogy, and couldn't get with the writing style, so it's on my "never again" shelf!
Same with the so-called "mummy porn" that is Fifty Shades Trilogy. Yes, I am ashamed to say I read this - and found it about as erotic as a dose of 'flu. In fact, the 'flu has more appeal to me!
Just finished 1979: A Big Year in a Small Town by Rhona Cameron. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Was crying with laughter. Ms Cameron lived my teenage lesbian school teacher stalking experience. My five-star review.Just started The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4 by Sue Townsend (read thirty years ago, but forgotten). I'm informed by many sources that it's hilarious.
Finished The Bank Manager and the Bumby Darren Sant - novella length and it's a little treasure, this one. http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Great little book, isn't it Kay? At the beginning I thought it was going to be predictable but it didn't work out like I thought, really.
I have looked up his other books Kath and downloaded one called Tales from the longcroft estate ,there are 3 short tales in it i think ,haven't started it yet and there is another book a continuation with more tales
I think the novella might be his longest book. I know he has a few collections of shorts so I'll have a look at those - when I've time! :)
Just finished Murder in Steeple Martin by Lesley Cookman. OK, but a bit long and meandering. Now going to read The Bank Manager and the Bum by Darren Sant.
Hope I share the same opinion as Ignite and Kay when I'm finished.
Dammit, Ignite! Now you've got me singing that song again. And before you ask...this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v43aQT...
Finished Nameless by Joe Conlan - a gruesome but captivating serial killer thriller (and only 38p on Amazon UK at the moment).
Just finished Shelter - Tara Shuler. Wasn't a bad book, was interesting in parts for the style of book. Found quite a few spelling and grammar errors and sent an email to the author telling her. Now I am going to read Vigilante - Kerry Wilkinson.
Karen wrote: "Just finished Behind the Candelabra, and I really enjoyed it. Deffo worth considering for a holiday read instead of the usual beacj fiction! Now reading True Blood Omnibus 2: Dead to the World, D..."im pretty infuriated by the ending of the series so im unsure whether i will continue with sookie but i did like the ones ive read
I've just finished reading A Child for the Devil, which I enjoyed.http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I'm now on to The Soul Ripper, which is off to an interesting start.
I have just finished reading A Hologram for the King (what a weird book that went way over my head) and am still plugging along with The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan
Just finished
which was OK but a bit predictable, I had guessed the ending by about 10% through.Just started
which was on the bottom of my To Read pile.I've also finished
- brilliant and started
Don't think I've posted in here for a while. I'm on another WWII run at the moment:Spitfire Women Of World War II was fantastic reading about the 166 female pilots who flew Spitfires, Hurricanes, and bombers (but not in combat) during the war.
Bomb Girls: Britain's Secret Army: The Munitions Women of World War II was fairly interesting about life for women in the British armaments factories.
How the Girl Guides Won the War just finished this one a moment ago. There's some fascinating accounts of Girl Guides helping British families who have been bombed by the Luftwaffe, smuggling food into the Warsaw Ghetto, and keeping children educated and fed in a Japanese concentration camp.
Aaaand I'm just about to start In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin
Finished Bet you can't... Find Me, really enjoyed it, struggled to put it down, and loved the list of other books you might enjoy at the end. Now reading Diary of a serial killer, which currently isn't available to buy. hopefully that means they are sorting out the formatting issues.
Just finished Dead Man's Time over the weekend and am now starting One Summer: America, 1927 by one of my favourite authors, Bill Bryson
Just finished
Outlaw: A Robin Monarch Novel
. If you can get past the ninth-level suspension of disbelief needed for the basic premise, it's a pretty good read. Author Sullivan, an escapee from the Patterson factory, can tell a tale, and his hero isn't as superheroic as the alpha males in these sorts of stories often are (that's a good thing for me). I'd give it 3.5 stars if we could give half-stars; once I write the review for Criminal Element, I'll figure out whether I'll round up or down.
Starting Hot Art: Chasing Thieves and Detectives Through the Secret World of Stolen Art . Yes, there's a reason I'm reading all these art-crime books.
I finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and started Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Just finished The Cartographer's Apprentice by Jim Webster. It's a prequel to the longer books and is much lower in price so if you've been hesitating about them, have a go and see why Benor's such a great character.
I've just finished The Soul Ripper which was a decent story based on an interesting idea:http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I'm now onto Floating Staircase and it's too early to tell if it's any good or not :-)
Ignite wrote: "Just about to start Devil's Lairby David Wisehart. Had it recommended."Looks interesting, I've grabbed a copy.
Just started Only the Innocent by Rachel Abbot - very good so far, lots of questions to be answered. Still working my way through seventeen Dick Franciseseses
Finished
at the weekend (TV was really bad!) and have just started
... Looks like this will be my series for a couple of more books...
Lexie wrote: "Just started Only the Innocent by Rachel Abbot - very good so far, lots of questions to be answered. Still working my way through seventeen Dick Franciseseses"Am sure the plural is 'Francisi' :)
Just finished The Day of the Triffids. It is a classic but I really enjoyed it. Now reading The Diary of a Chambermaid in a totally different register - so far my feelings on this one are mixed.
Its ages since I read any Wyndham.I've just got Notes from a small island by Bill Bryson, before following Adele onto his latest
Notes from a small island is my favourite just before a walk through the woods. New one is very good so far
Lexie wrote: "Just started Only the Innocent by Rachel Abbot - very good so far, lots of questions to be answered. Still working my way through seventeen Dick Franciseseses"Only the Innocent is my favorite book of the year
Karen wrote: "Lexie wrote: "Just started Only the Innocent by Rachel Abbot - very good so far, lots of questions to be answered. Still working my way through seventeen Dick Franciseseses"Am sure the plural is ..."
Ah, but wouldn't it be accusative or ablative? Surely Francisi is the nominative plural? :)
I think he's ace! I also think Darren Humphries is ace - just reviewed his latest http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
He was quite rude about Aberdeen in Small Island as I recall. Bill Bryson that is, not Darren. I'm not aware of Darren's feelings on Aberdeen.
Just finished The Sekhmet Bed, very atmospheric dynastic struggle in Ancient Egypt. Thank goodness for indie publishing. And it has very few typos! Now going to start The Crowded Grave
