I've started a GH thread here. Just noticed on my notifications that there is a GH forum on goodreads and that you have joined DD! I've joined too but it looks like they are mostly american - nothing wrong with that, but all prices are quoted in dollars, I was a bit jealous to read that in August in america they were selling GH's novels for $1.99 each!!

My latest paperbacks purchased were a couple of weeks ago in the NT 2nd hand bookshop in Hawkshead - two Georgette Heyer books for £1 each. One April Lady I remembered reading years ago & the other Friday's Child didn't seem at all familiar.

Will give it another go when I am more ready for it.

I used to feel that I had to read every word of a book - now I'm not afraid to skip pages if need be!

How do you do that Karen. I just have to read every one. Perhaps I'm the odd one.

Spider Bones... thats the new Kathy Reichs yea? I love all her books, if only cause the topic is forensic anth. It could be terribly written and i'd still enjoy it

When I re-read Lord of the rings I skip whole chapters, is that wrong? Frodo and Sam just get so boring after a while...
I'm a LOTR nerd Jud. I read it 5 times back to back in my late 20s when I was really old enogh to know better. They occasionally strayed from the story in the films and as you can imagine, I was incandescent!
I didn't mind Sam and Frodo so much, but the songs, poems and anything involving the interminable Tom Bombadil and Goldberry were the end of enough and I tended to skip them. It didn't seem to make any difference to how much I understood and my OH (who is a LOTR nerd with icing on) says he does the same whenever he re-reads the book.
just finished Sing You Home, J. Picoult's latest book and i must say this is her masterpiece in my opinion. its so well writtten and it presents both sides of the story with such strong arguments that i am still feeling confused...made me ask myself many questions regarding homosexuality, religion, IVF and marriage...never disappointed with Jodi Picoult.no idea what i will start next, right now i am struggling with the plural of nouns in French...such a complicated language..what was i thinking??
that sounds great, but i would not want to waste her time...i am stubborn person, with a weird pace...

Welsh, now, that IS complicated - there isn't really a dictionary because the first letter of a noun often mutates depending on what goes before it.
Finished The Secret Mandarin, which appealed to me because of the gardening/plant hunting background, but ultimately disappointed because the research totally overshadowed the tacked-on storyline for me. Now reading Lye in Wait- totally different, but wanted an easy read, with a crafting background for a change.
Just finished The Devil's Deep by Michael Wallacehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/s?_encoding=U...
I enjoyed it and have just bought the sequel
Devil's Peak.
Going to read Pets in a pickle next

Romanian sounds fun, Catalina - all those escu endings! I did a Spanish course far too soon after Italian GCSE and kept getting mixed up. Galician sounds tempting tho. It's interesting visiting Brittany and picking out the bits that are close to Welsh.

if you know spanish and portguese, galician almost comes naturally....i do not like italian...i would have an easy time learning it, as i do with most latin languages, but i do not like the sound of it..no idea why. i looove the other ones though:d
welsh sounds like a tough one
I just finished reading Damned by Chuck Palahniuk. Short and, er ... sweet? Not so sweet. Better than his efforts of the last five years or so, but still not as good as Invisible Monsters, Survivor and Fight Club. Maybe I'm just getting too familiar with him. I'll be sticking up a review on Booksquawk sometime next week.I'm now about halfway through Mile 81, the new Stephen King short. The man really does like his supernatural car nasties.
Trying to decide what to read after Mile 81. I've got Knock Knock by S.P. Miskowski on the Kindle, so I might keep the spooky theme going.
Let us know what you think of Mile 81 when you finish it, Paul. I looked at and decided against getting it, for now. Odd for me, as I usually snap up everything by Sai King. Guess I'm just too spoiled for choice now.
Pat so glad you liked Devil's Deep I thought it was great too. I'm in the middle of Michael's The Red Roosternow, it takes place in France in WWII, cracking read so far.;-)

Lorraine wrote: "Patti (P E) wrote: "Perhaps Lorraine can tutor you, Catalina!"Yep Catalina, I'll help you in any way I can. Just let me know :)"
That is very kind of you Lorraine...at the moment i need to learn better the noun and those accents..i did not start verbs yet:P
Yep, anything let me know :)It's a website in French, but if you want everything at hand (grammar, verbs etc) you can check this site, it seems quite complete to me :) http://www.leconjugueur.com/
See, now this is one of the many reasons we love our group.Second group hug of the day!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{ hug }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Soon we're going to start wearing 1-piece suit, donning a funny shaped thing on the top of our heads and go "ehooo" while running around amongst the rabbits and the grass... you guessed it... like http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=tele... !
I just finished The Hunger Games which I read at normal people speed *go me*I'm on the fence about how much I enjoyed it but it was a good book.
I'm going to start The Sea of Monsters because after reading the first one, it completely hooked me.
I always remembered a book that I bought at school when I was around my son's age (8), which for some reason had a profound effect on me. I know I've still got the book but can't find it anywhere, so had to buy a new copy. I am now reading it to my son: The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet
I recently finished 'Pets in a pickle', which I enjoyed, especially the Freudian slip on page 258 where willies is in the place that should be wellies!
I've just finished The Antipope by Robert Rankin. It's the first one I've read and it was bizarre but good. If Spike Milligan had written fantasy this is what I imagine it might have been like. Just starting Torbrek...and the Dragon Variation by Lexi Revellian which I have to confess, I'd read bits of on the incredibly scary authors' site, Authonomy. I've read the first three chapters of the proper, kindle version and it's great, so far...Cheers

Just finished Pets in a Pickle.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pets-in-a-Pic....
This should have been a very funny book. It just didn't do it for me, and what was up with Lucy?
I think I must be 'out of step' with most readers. I seem to have different tastes to most.
Continuing on from the Sample I am now reading
The Granite Key.

I enjoyed the sample so here goes.

Sometimes books work for you and sometimes they don't. I've bought books that seem just my cup of tea and despaired of them. If nothing else, it shows the oddity of human nature.
Ooo philosophy.
