I loved the first one. That and John Wyndham's the Chrysalids were the first sci-fi books that I remember from my early teens.

The Day of the Triffids was the first sci-fi book I read at school. I really enjoyed it too, although sci-fi isn't really my first choice genre
Wyndham's books are brilliant, and somehow still relevant today. The Kraken wakes hits the global warming spot with the flooding, and how about The Trouble With Lichen?
The second sci-fi book I read was The Midwitch Cuckoos, which really wasn't bad either, maybe I should re-thonk my stance on Sci-fi!!

i'm like penny, sci fi isn't my first choice of reading, i wouldn't really know where to start now. read the triffids at school and thought it was great though!
Will wrote: "You have written a list of books on ypur bedding????Ready for a sleepless night, eh?"
Will. You are an accountant. surely you know what a spreadsheet is.
I finished War and Peace!! Got a bit philosophical for me at the end but I enjoyed it. Starting Code to Zero next
oooooo love ken follett jud. not read that one so will be interested to know what you think when you finish.
I've just finished reading The Time Machine, which I really enjoyed reading again:http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I'm now onto The Kult, which I have heard many good things about.
Still immersed in Jim Butcher. I've just realised that the clothing available in my house is a pretty dam close replica of Harry Dresden's.Is that good or bad?
Finished Our Lady of Pain, starting bo's Stealing Power was going to save it for my holiday, but with everyone saying how good it is,i'm not going to wait.
just finished The Long EarthGood read, nice change from Pratchetts usual fare. Though with Stephens Baxter's writing style and influence it felt more like I was reading a Douglas Adams book at times.
And just started the sequel The Long War
Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "What a refreshing change to read a book for 30 mins and get 12% through rather than just 1%!"I have found this with Les Miserables! It really does seem to go very slowly!!
Just finished The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt (it was fab).Just started my first Patricia Cornwell: Postmortem.
finished Turbulent Sea this morning and *omg*oclock and am feeling it today. damn it.will be starting Michael's upcoming book at some stage today or tomorrow morning
Natasha (Diarist) wrote: "Just finished The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt (it was fab).Just started my first Patricia Cornwell: Postmortem."
i dont mind patricia cornwell at all i have to say. i've only read the first couple but i did accidentally spoil myself on an ongoing plot line in the later books that i normally hate so not sure whether or not to continue on with it
just finished wanted by tim arnot. i loved this book, if you enjoyed hunger games or anything like that you'll love this. well deserved 5 stars on amazon from me for this new author. not really sure what to start next... so much choice!
Natasha (Diarist) wrote: "Elle wrote: "i did accidentally spoil myself..."That scary? Yikes. ..."
Spoil not soil! Our Elle is very well house trained, thank you very much! ;o)
Finished Stealing Power,a couple of lines made me laugh out loud,i assume bo hasn't got an author thread as i can't find it.StartingA Terrible Beauty, which is actually called white bones on the kindle, there was a women started a thread on the zoo moaning about the violence in it,so i'm looking forward to it.
I finished a code to zero which is based around the explorer 1 launch. I quite enjoyed it and found it a very quick read. Think ill read agatha Christies cards on the table next

I had a change from my usual genre and just finished Wool Omnibus. It was intriguing and a damn good read. Full review here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Simon wrote: "I had a change from my usual genre and just finished Wool Omnibus. It was intriguing and a damn good read. Full review here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..."Shift is queued up on my hardback TBR shelf. Loved Wool, & especially the lava cover on the trad edition (I have the hardbacks which are lavish, and were only 30p more than the Kindle editions at the time!)
Thanks for reminding me to add Shift to my TBR list. I definitely want to read it but have a load of other things to get through first. I bet that Wool cover is very vivid in the flesh. My copy was only for Kindle unfortunately.

I enjoyed Patricia Cornwell at first, not read any for a while, but a few on the paperback pile (not picked up one for over 7 weeks)
Yep, I also enjoyed quite a few Patricia Cornwells, but they do get a bit samey and I never bought into the niece Lucy at all. Just finished, thank goodness, the boring Cazalets The Light Years - towards the end, with WW2 coming, I felt, to paraphrase Betjeman, Come kindly bombs and fall on the Cazalets...
I hated the stock characters of the 'staff', and hated even more the characterless Cazalets. I think this was one book I should never even have bothered reading. Which only goes to show how good a Radio 4 dramatisation can be in beguiling us.
Have now started 'Death to Love' http://www.amazon.co.uk/Death-To-Love... - by 'our' RMF Brown - so far so good! (You can always pay me NOT to read books, btw...)

just a pet hate of mine comes up. i tend to avoid books like the plague when they have (view spoiler)
Just finished Wildcard. I'm not sure if I am going to like this but it was left on my pile of books by my daughter.
That last post seems to have been truncated :(What it should have said was
Just finished Wildcard by Ken McClure. A good quick read but I was left feeling a bit disappointed at the end as I wanted to know more about the science and development of the technology (without giving too much away).
Just started City of Bones. I'm not sure if I am going to like this but it was left on my pile of books by my daughter.
Finished Entwined with You - Sylvia Day whilst on holiday and am now reading Release Me - J. Kenner :D
just startedRivers Of London which seems ok so far. i've heard a lot of good things about this series so when the first book was reduced in price a few weeks ago i grabbed it!
Steven wrote: "just startedRivers Of London which seems ok so far. i've heard a lot of good things about this series so when the first book was reduced in price a few weeks ago i grabbed it!"I've just started on Broken Homes (book 4). If you are into audiobooks, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, who narrates these, is utterly brilliant.
thanks Tim. i've seen the audio books for this series. reckon if i like the first book i might try the next as an audio book.
just started Butterfly Winter. I know already, only forty pages in, that this is one of the greatest books I will ever read. It has already blown my already blown mind!
