Yes. I have. I thought the first book in Hunger Games was excellent, but the second book just seemed to tread over the same territory, so I didn't like it as much. Haven't read the third book yet. Battle Royale is a great film, and Hunger Games undoubtedly owes it a nod or two.

OK, edible with an inbuilt flask. Now there's no need to leave the comfort of the (insert favourite reading place) for the daily necessities of eating and drinking. Kindle will be a thing of the past once it catches on ;)

I've finished A Proper Companion and found it agreeable enough to download another of Candice Hern's novels. It's pleasant, predictable stuff and the author is canny enough to refer to the genre's limitations in the text - there are one or two knowing winks in the reader's direction, which I quite liked.

I've also finished Sea of Poppies - that's the Kindle edition, I read the paperback - and would definitely recommend it, but only for fans of historical novels. Also, the language is sometimes difficult to keep up with, although I found that once I got into the rhythm, I got the gist, albeit not always the full meaning.

It has a huge story, lots of characters and very big themes, and as I want to stay with that, I'm making a start on Assassin's Quest: Book Three of the Farseer Trilogy I read and loved the first two - Robin Hobb's imagination is very special, even by fantasy standards - and was really looking forward to this one. I pulled my paperback copy off the shelf, opened it and found a page of tiny point 10 typeface floating in front of my eyes, so off to my Kindle I went.

Off Kindle and to keep up with the big themes, I'm going to read Rebels and Traitors: An Epic Novel of the English Civil War I love Lindsey Davis' Falco series, and am relishing the prospect of seeing what she does with the Civil War.

I literally just finished 'Anna Karenina' by Leo Tolstoy. And fellow stingy people: it was free. Of course, that's always a plus, but that doesn't mean I suggest reading it.

I will soon write a proper review, but just to keep it brief here; it was quite a waste of time. Yes, there are some good moments, but there are many more that are painfully dull. I don't advise you to read it. Watch the film.

I just finished The Kult which was amazing I recommend to all. I started The Light Fantastic after being inspired by whoever it was in the new terry pratchett book thread (thats 2 down and a million still to go) It was much better than the 1st, seemed to have a faster pace as well. I finished that and started The Lost Symbol

well i finished the kult in work and then I did 40 mins on the exercise bike reading light fantastic and that took me to lik 40% read while cooking dinner and doing the dishes as well and since football was on I read some more in the evening and got it finished in bed. It only took a couple hours to read light fantastic.

And I read at tea break and lunch hour lorraine not while i'm actually working cause thats when i'm on here ;o) The way the lunches worked out yesterday I had mine on my tea break so I had an hour in the afternoon just for reading. I'm meeting a pal for lunch today though so no reading

I wish I had brought some large zippies. Now that we have the recipe thread, I'm using the iPad to follow the recipes. It got a bit tomato-y the other day...

I wanted some extra protection for my Kindle in case I get caught in the rain. I love my local park and try to walk there several times a week, but obviously, there isn't a lot of cover for humans, dogs, ducks, electronic devices etc. I found a very nice A5 zippy-wallet in Rymans - it takes my Kindle in its Duragadget holder without taking up much room in my bag. I'm sure someone on this forum mentioned zippy wallets,so thank you to whoever it was.

I do need to get a couple of proper waterproof covers for holidays, I think. I did have one in my shopping basket that someone in Amazoo recommended but I didn't get it as I wasn't convinced the kindle in it's lighted would fit. I'll have to get round to doing more research before Christmas, I guess.
I did get a waterproof map cover from the 99p shop but its rubbish. Can't see through it and it's too big. Waste of a quid.

Yes Patti read it last night,that's what reminded me I had the book on my TBR list.I downloaded the 2nd part after reading the thread.They seem to give authors a hard time over there,I don't get it.As booklovers you would think they would have more tolerance for the folks that make their passion possible imho!

It's hard as a struggling author to promote work without posting in various places about said book(s). That's why it's so great to come across groups like this that don't want to hunt you down like a dog. :)

Thought the Lost Symbol was awful - think Dan Brown just chasing the dollar with that one. Not a patch on his previous thrillers

Finished Hemingway's short story The Old Man and the Sea which was really good and now well into Night by Elie Wiesel which is a short memoir from a survivor of the horror of Auschwitz.
