Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've had a quick look, Steve and yes, you need to sign into your twitter account, then follow a bunch of other instructions. I'll have to try to sort it out in a few days, I'm afraid.

message 252: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Hi Patti. Thanks for the info. Not having bought my wife that Kindle yet (still waiting for my first royalty cheque), I've not been able to test the process out. I've read that it's quite straightforward though and if you do manage it, it would be great to know how you got on.

message 253: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Will do, Steve. It will be easier for me to sort from the laptop, where I can open multiple windows in tabs. Seems straightforward, though.

message 254: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ah, I haven't got a twitter account (even though I've been called a twit on many occasions.) I don't really want one either. I have no need for one - I'm not selling my services like an author or assuming every little thing I do is meat and drink to a nation agog! I think that makes me a fogey!

message 255: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Its meat and drink to us, Ingnite! Well, drink anyway. Unless it bacon. mmmmmbaconmmmmm

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I only joined twitter to do the kindlegraph thing. I won't use it for anything else. It's easy to set up.

message 257: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments You can close it down once you have the kindlegraph. Or maybe you'd want to leave it for all the other books in the series. :o)

message 258: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I admire your cheek Steve! (and the rest of your face of course!)

message 259: by Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (last edited Sep 03, 2011 03:24AM) (new)

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Yeah, I'm leaving it on for kindlegraph, though I won't use it for anything else...I'm not into all that twittering malarky.
I've already collected 5 autographs, although some of the authors haven't quite got the hang of it yet and the autograph comes in a tiny little box. I think they don't realise that they have to sign them individually and just click on it to send it to the next request. I don't think the instructions are all that clear about what you have to do.

Chookgate | 74 comments Vanessa wrote: "although some of the authors haven't quite got the hang of it yet and the autograph comes in a tiny little box..."

Yes, I've got 6 kindlegraphs now, and Steve's is the only one that has a proper signature and doesn't have blurb at the top that says "DEMONSTRATION DOCUMENT ONLY PROVIDED BY DOCUSIGN ONLINE SIGNING SERVICE".

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Steve is very good isn't he.

*whisper* Don't tell him or he'll get big headed and won't fit in his cabin...lol.

He can build an extension - he's a practical bloke!

message 263: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Ha! Too late. OMG! my head is starting to swell. Good job I fitted double Georgian doors to he cabin - bugger to paint, mind. Don't get me started. Off to bed now after entertaining friends this evening. They loved the book too. I need a sequel...

message 264: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments YOU need a sequel? Why do you think we're all jollying you along with the painting job?

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments How big is this cabin?...it sounds like quite an elaborate affair.
I was thinking it was along the lines of a glorified shed, but it sounds more like a mansion!...lol.
Oh, and stop fannying around and get on with the book!
;0)

message 266: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's displacement activity Vanessa. He's got writer's block and he's faffing to distract us from the fact. (Sorry Steve!)

message 267: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Can't have the shed looking like an uninspirational prison!

Are we doing rotas to bring you tea and cakes?

message 268: by Steve (last edited Sep 04, 2011 06:38AM) (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Well, the undercoat is on, inside and out. Now it's raining - just made it. It's no mansion, Vanessa, but all I need is a blank corner to stare at so I'm not distracted. It's all painted white now and it reminded my neighbour of a beach hut. It's 8' x 10'. A garden room.

Ignite - Writer's block? What's that? Something to stand on or jump off? :o) If a writer can't write it just means they've not prepared well enough - that's my experience anyway. Anything else is an excuse to stop.

Tea and cakes! You could send me food parcels, Lorraine...

message 269: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The tea and jaffas are in another thread at the moment, Steve. I'll just get the tray and bring them here...

message 270: by Kath (last edited Sep 04, 2011 06:54AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We have a garden room. It sounds pretentious when I say it but it doesn't when you do? Is that your 'writer's voice' do you think? We had a local builder design and build it to our instructions. Very light inside - mainly double glazed panels but the back and ceiling are lined with pine and we were going to cover it with matt varnish but the smell was so gorgeous. Still plain pine but it's aged beautifully. People say it reminds them of a sauna inside but you'd have to be a hell of an exhibitionist to want to dip your pelt in full view!

message 271: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Tea and Jaffas sounds good Patti, but not as good as my Sunday pint while I cook the roast. Doing a butterfly leg of lamb. Smells good. Poor butterfly!

Your garden room sounds lovely, Ignite. It's not pretentious - garden retreats are all the rage. a quiet place to read perhaps - or write in my case. I like wax better then varnish (as Patti knows :o)) Nice and natural looking, easy to apply and maintenance free.

Just uploading the rest of the In the Blood cut scenes to my website. I'll post in my meet the author thread when they're there.

message 272: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just read the first Steve. Cooking dinner is calling me away though!

message 273: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've just read them Steve. I really think if you ever do a Director's Cut and reinstate any it should be number 5. (Don't want to add a spoiler here). The noise of the crowd, the beautiful morning and the sweet smell of the heather are so vivid. The end rolls on with a sad inevitability. This is the sort of scene you do so well. (Fortunately there are many you didn't cut!) You can write material like this with a deceptively light touch. That's why you got persecuted! I know a good writer when I see one and your book stood out like an island in a sea of independent publications that didn't come near.
The last scene had some wonderful writing in too. It must be so hard to cut what you've written but your explanations make it obvious why you did.

Thanks for publishing these for us.

message 274: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Thanks for that, Ignite, and I'm very glad to be able to share them with you. The way I see it is that if the story is no less for not having a certain scene in it, then the scene can go - and sometime the story is better for it. I think that cutting scenes as heavily as I did helped to keep what remained tight and relevant - although now I've gone the indie route, part of me wishes scene 5 was still in there. It's unnecessary but somewhat poignant, I felt, and good writing (blows trumpet) is always a joy to read.

message 275: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Blow that trumpet lad! If you've got it, flaunt it!

message 277: by Steve (last edited Sep 05, 2011 01:24AM) (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments PS. Had a surprise flurry of sales on the US overnight - nearly as many as in the last 3 days put together. It was a holiday weekend over there, so maybe that's why. Or maybe a review was written somewhere - better check google. New York Times...

message 278: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments New York Times would be fab! You'll be ordering that kindle anytime now!

message 279: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Thanks for reminding him Patti!

message 280: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I'm still waiting for my first royalty cheque. No idea when it will arrive. Anyway - In the Blood is now the No.2 historical mystery bestseller in the US! Yippee-yay! And only just behind the No.1 spot in terms of where they both sit in the 'entire store' figures, so maybe just a few more sales today would be enough to get it there.

message 281: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments All those sales and the beggars haven't paid you yet? Disgraceful!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Who would want to be an author, eh?

message 287: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments wow when you do get that cheque it's going to be like winning at lotto lol !

And congrats on all that success !

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I hope they pay you interest on it!

message 289: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Lotto! Interest!

I should have enough to get that Kindle and maybe even a case for it. That £3.99 Tesco job sounds good (cheap) :o)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Priceless? Of course you are, all of you. :o)

Tight as a fish's bum? I'll have you know that my wife is getting every penny and cent, save for the cost of her Kindle and case which I'll be buying for her first.

Anyway... Exciting news just posted in my meet the author thread!

Now off to buy more paint!

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Is that your wife in the background I can hear cracking the whip and shouting 'get on with it'...lol.

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Alas, my lovely wife works long hours in London while I stay home and try to make a career of my writing. It's that thought alone that drives me to be the best I can be when I'm writing. :o)

message 297: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Awwww... love... the best source of inspiration...

Her for being so supportive and you for getting the success you deserve.
