Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Hello to all and sundry. My name is Darren Humphries and I've had books available on the Kindle since about September of last year.

What I write is humorous fantasy and science fiction (at least I hope it's humorous and some people who have been kind enough to leave reviews also seem to think so.

There's no rhyme or reason to what I write with plots from a modern man adrift in King Arthur's time, a con man escaping an escape proof prison planet, a writer trapped in a city being ruled by his own stories, the rise of an unusual orc to power and so on.

Currently I have a new book in preparation with a sequel already being worked on and a couple of other sequels in the pipeline.

I also run The Sci Fi Freak Site (a science fiction TV and movie website at http://www.scififreaksite.com ) and two intermittent blogs in the shape of thescififreakblog.blogspot.com and darrenhumphriesebooks.blogspot.com

You can find me on amazon.co.uk at
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Darren-Humphr...

and .com at
http://www.amazon.com/Darren-Humphrie...

(Happy now Patti?)

And if I recall you gave me me a good review so I thank you very much for that. If you would like another go around then I have The Great Rock N Roll Doomsday Tour available free on Smashwords. For some reason Amazon don't want to match the price.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

OOh - thanks for the tip Darren! *pops over to smashwords* :0)

message 5: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Already an advantage to joining the group. Excellent!

message 6: by willie (new)

willie (williewit) The blurb for that made me laugh - i had written 19 stories before i dared use a semi colon, such was the (dusty) mystery of punctuation a few weeks ago...
You never think about it or even notice it when people do it right do you ?

:0)

Scarlet | 7 comments @Darren - Just had a look on Smashwords for The Great Rock and Roll Doomsday Tour and I can't see a download option for Kindle - am I missing something (a brain perhaps)?

Scarlet wrote: "@Darren - Just had a look on Smashwords for The Great Rock and Roll Doomsday Tour and I can't see a download option for Kindle - am I missing something (a brain perhaps)?"

I couldn't see the kindle download either - so I just downloaded it in epub and converted it to mobi via calibre.

I was thinking about mentioning this anyway Darren - as it's just occurred to me that maybe the reason that amazon won't match your price to free is because the kindle version isn't actually available on smashwords at the mo - only other types of download?

:0)

message 9: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Really? I'll go over there now and see if I can figure out what has happened. I thought that they were all in kindle format.

message 10: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments OK, this has now been fixed and the book is showing as being available in the kindle format. Sorry about that.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Darren wrote: "OK, this has now been fixed and the book is showing as being available in the kindle format. Sorry about that."

No probs - just an oversight. Amazon might respond now to being told that the kindle edition is free elsewhere..

:0)

message 12: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I never thought about that. New York City Legend was made free within a couple of days, but this has been going on for some time. I'll let them know.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Is there no end to this temptation ! Now i have two forums to 'help' me buy books.

Just going to download The Sword in the Tree which sounds like fun.

message 14: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Thank you very much John and I hope that you enjoy it. If you don't then it's not my fault and I didn't write it, honest. I was forced to at gunpoint by ... you're not believing any of this are you?

Its Karens fault for putting a link at the top of this thread.....

No problem. I just hope that it won't disappoint.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Second place in the poll to be the next book read with . The Great Rock N Roll Doomsday Tour by Darren Humphries ? That's something of a surprise, but thanks for suggesting and supporting it.

message 20: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have downloaded it from smashwords. Hopefully get a chance to read it at some point in the next decade... I'm now up to 605 books on my kindle bout 595 of those unread. What i need is a semi serious illness/injury one that is serious enough to get me off work for 6 months or so but not serious enough to put me off reading (i.e relatively pain free) or horror of horrors prevent me from reading!

message 21: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Judith, please be careful what you wish for! Though I do know what you mean.

You are way up on me with the kindle numbers. The proportion of those waiting to be read is about the same, however.

I know I've a friend who's been signed off with neurological disorder I dont want that... Stress or maternity leave i'm thinking are the safest options! stress maybe cause then i dont end up with so much responsilbility at the end!

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Judith wrote: "Stress or maternity leave i'm thinking are the safest options!"

Of course maternity leave gives you a lifetime's source of stress.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I've also informed amazon that the Great Rock n Roll Domesday tour is free on smashwords, sent the note a few days ago now, but they still haven't acted!

I informed them as well, but nothing. I wonder if it's because the sale was on?

Maybe we all need to give them another gentle reminder, give them a couple more days, then get shirty. ;)

Certainly the more people that nag them the more they are likely to take notice!

message 29: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Possibly they would take more notice of would be readers than the author.

Shelagh (shelaghwatkins) | 82 comments Hi Darren,

Tell us a litle bit more about the new books.

message 31: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments The new book (coming soon, I promise) is entitled The Man From U.N.D.E.A.D. - The Curious Case Of The Kidnapped Chemist and involves sirens, sphinxes, strippers, public transport that goes too fast, airships, obelisks, the Loch Ness Monster and minor ancient Egyptian Snake Gods.

Clearly it's a searing documentary about life in the inner cities.

message 32: by Shelagh (new)

Shelagh (shelaghwatkins) | 82 comments Inner cities? Nessie certainly gets about.

All of that yet no vampires??? Shocking!!!

>>>bites lip and pours another glass of holiday wine. ;)

message 34: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I do have a vampire novel in me somewhere but it's gestating very, very slowly and won't involve any sparkling at all.

message 35: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The only vampire novel i've read is dracula i'm trying to avoid twilight and all that for as long as possible cause i know i'll just get caught up in the hype and read all the vampire novels i can get my hands on. So i for one am glad there are no vampires in your new book or i would forbid myself from reading it! Having said that i've banned myself from downloaing more books till i've caught up with my to-read list... Doesn't mean i'll listen to myself though

MTM - if I were you I'd mosey on over to www.smashwords.com where you can currently pick up The Great Rock N Roll Doomsday Tour for the princely sum of nought pounds and nought pence.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments It's pretty representative of the kind of stuff that I do, which is to say wild, silly and (hopefully) fun.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I'm about 25% through this book and am really enjoying it.
I get a bit confused with all the characters but that's nothing unusual for me!
I've also read a couple of your other books and think they're great and I look forward to reading the others.
Great stuff!

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Amazon still haven't matched the free price! Maybe it would help if a few more are willing to report it to amazon. I did so a few days ago - but I might try again.

:0)

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just tried actually emailing them - let's see if that makes any difference...

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments That is really spooky Karen, I was just about to say the same thing because I was going to put a direct Amazon link on. Then I went and got it free from Smashwords instead!
