Lisa | 75 comments Hi

Looking at everybody's profiles everyone seems to have been able to put multiple amount of books in over a short period of time.
Is there a way of putting some of your kindle books in that I don't know about. I can't believe everyone has had the time to put them in individually.
I have tried to search and it says I can put my amazon wish list on but I would prefer to put some of the books I have read first. Any help would be appreciated thanks and hopefully this might help someone else.

Gary Dowden (garydow) | 15 comments Personally I've searched for my authors and gone through their books adding the ones I've read. I will get around to doing my `read on kindle` folder but I dont think there is a quick way apart from doing it my individual searches.

Lisa | 75 comments Oh thanks I thought there must be as people have put so many on. Perhaps they have been on goodreads for some time. Will just put a few of my latest ones on. Thank you.

I've been putting mine on over several days. I worked my way through the just finished just started thread on the amazon forum to get my recent reads (bit OTT but it's the ex-library assistant in me!). Since then I've looked at lists on here such as the 100 greatest books etc and marked as read any of my books that I find in there. Also, by doing author search on my fav authors and then adding the ones that I have read. I haven't seperated my kindle from tree book - but as I go back in time all of the books a year ago would have been read on paper.

:0)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've been looking through the books in listopia and rating the ones I've read. The listopia link is at the top of the page in the drop down list under 'explore'

I've also been rating the books that my lovely new friends have been adding (if I've read them, of course)

Those appear when I click home.

Hmmm hope that made sense....

Lisa | 75 comments Thanks I have just started looking and added a few. Real pity it can't be linked to Amazon as I have bought a lot of my books off them in the last few years.
Thank you everybody

Yes that is really annoying. The trouble is that Amazon would probably not want to share your account security with anyone (for good reasons). The other problem seems to be the Amazon book reference which is theirs alone, and unless they provide a cross reference to ISBN numbers it will be difficult to import. I spent most of the weekend looking to see if I could hack my kindle book list and export it to Goodreads - and failed.

I had no problems adding any of my kindle books until today (I was listing them individual - by searching on the ASIN) but today there have been two books that weren't found - as I'm typing this I'm thinking that both books were fairly new listings so maybe that has something to do with it...?

:0)

Lisa | 75 comments Just thought I would add for anyone who was struggling like me I took the advice from here and went to the lists and have managed to get about 20 books on for now.
I will do a few at a time over the next few weeks.
Once you put one book in by an author you can then easily get the others by the same author etc.

message 10: by Bluejay44 (new)

Bluejay44 I add mine as I finish reading them. That way they are added to the 2011 reading challenge, which I am taking part in as well.

Lisa | 75 comments Just wanted to say for anyone with a iPhone and probably other all singing phones you can scan your books barcode in. Just added a few more very easily that way. It also gives you the exact edition with correct cover which is nice.
I have a pile of books I have to get rid of to make room and am going to scan in so I can check in the future if I have read that book as I have a dreadful memory.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nifty, Lisa! Do you know if I could do that with my iPad? What's the name of the app?

message 13: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments Hi
It's the actual goodreads one, I don't think I got it from the app store I believe I downloaded it from the goodreads website possibly homepage obviously do this on your phone.
It then is really easy you open the app on your phone go to my books press barcode scan and then a little scan button in corner. It comes up with a bar code scanner very similar to red lazer if you have ever used that. I lined up 5 books at a time on the bed with barcodes showing and went from one to the other. Approx 2 seconds per scan. You then press done and it gives you the chance of adding to your read shelf. once on shelf you can then clear the scans and try some more. If I can do it anyone can.
I am in the process of taking all my old paperbacks to charity shops and this is perfect to remember what I have read.

Lisa | 75 comments Patti just looked again I think I must have got it off the app store just looked it is there and free. Its the one with the g on the pic.
Not sure why its only got 2.5 stars its working great for me. I logged in same details as my laptop goodreads and it has all my books etc on both.
It may be on android as well if anyone can confirm that?
Good luck.

message 15: by Denise (new)

Denise Taylor (denisebrum) | 4 comments I have it on Android. Available from the marketplace

Angela (bubblyfish) | 53 comments I have the app on my iPhone and it works perfectly for me. I was very impressed that it has all my books listed as I have on my computer as that's very useful for checking whether I've read a book or not. I too forget especially when covers are changed!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments the app isnt on blackberry roll on october 2012...

*dies a little inside*

message 18: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments Oh no that's ages. That's like when you see a hardback in a shop and know you've got to wait a year for the paperback.

message 19: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Back in the good old days! No more waiting with the power of the kindle. But I have it from a more reliable source that its actually an 18 month contract not 24 :o) AND you can upgrade 3 months before the end. YAY that's only *tries to do a quick calculation*

...
...
...

Well that's feb next year!!

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments How really annoying. Really surprised at Blackberry.
Poor you.
Really enjoying this site and love my kindle.
Happy reading.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments TBH you can't really blame Blackberry. If the developer doesn't supply a app for the particular device, then it's the supplier at fault.

This is true i have been a bit harsh on blackberry over this. I still don't like them anymore though.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Am I the only one who thinks uploading a list of the books I've read is a waste of reading time? I don't think it's a feature I'll be using but it doesn't mean I haven't read any books - honest!

I'm sure that some will agree with you. The ex-library assistant in me enjoys seeing my virtual bookshelves so before this forum got started I got rather addicted with finding and adding books. The novelty has worn off now and I'm just adding things as I read them. :0)

message 25: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments Hi
I scanned quite a few in simply because I was getting rid of the books themselves so it was a good way of keeping a list. Previously I was going to jot the titles down which would have taken hours.
I have an absolutely dreadful memory and have more than once bought the same book twice.

I'm with you Lisa! Also scanned lots of mine before taking them to the charity shop and I also have bought the same book twice. The publisher had changed the cover - now is that playing fair?!

message 27: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments I must have bought a dozen books again simply because of a changed cover. It's a conspiracy :-)

I've downloaded a program by the name of Calibre which is free. This works just wonderful. Any books that I download, I immediately drag from my downloads to this program. Should the book be in a form that I do not like, Calibre converts it to for instance Mobi. The moment when my Kindle is connected to my pc,I just press a button and it gets transferred to my Kindle.

When you shop on Amazon through the device, it gets downloaded immediately after payment. This is so easy that I am sure that I misunderstood the question.

message 29: by Allison (new)

Allison (bookishwoo) | 0 comments Calibre can now link to your Goodreads Account so you can sync your Ebooks with ease. Calibre is a brilliant tool and a good way to store your library when your Kindle is choc full lol :0)

message 30: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments Thanks will take a look at calibre.
