Caroline C. wow that part of the movie was so funny! i wanted to know what you guys and girls thought of it.

Sandy I didn't find it funny at the time but thinking back it was odd to have Voldemort hug someone. I can imagine any hug with him being awkward xD.

Lindis Russell I don't think that Voldy did it for any love or, even like of the boy. He did it because at the time, he was trying to get all the Young Hogwarts students to join him. Tricking them, by trying to make himself look like a greatful, proud, almost loving leader.

But one of his flaws throughout the whole story was that he totally underestimates the power of love and friendship. And he never knew the true meaning of Loyalty. Draco didn't walk over there for Voldemort or his father. He walked over there for his mother. I think Narcissa was the only person that Draco really ever loved and trusted, his mother.

Marx Leo bahhaha, I laughed out loud in the theater

Juliet lol, it was very creepy. I don't think Draco liked it too much either

Kerri I laughed. It seems like I was the only one (maybe people didn't notice how awkward and weird and out of character it was), I felt so weird laughing at a funny moment that was couched in an intense serious scene. Voldemort's face and the awkwardness, how could you not laugh? He needs more practice.

Amen sista! I totally agree.

Hitandmiss It was a toss up between Voldemort Hug and Argus Filch cleaning up after the battle as best lol momment of the film.

Hannah It was a little strange but in the last three movies, the writers really put in a lot of "humor". This would be one of the scenes.... basically they just put in a lot of strange and ironic things to kind of lighten the movie a little.

P.s. LOVED THE MOVIE!!!

I so agree, and i found the whole scene just arkward.

Julia In the theatre people were giggling, and I was like, "Most awkward hug ever!" Hitandmiss - I actually felt sorry for Filch in that moment!

Oh yeah, my daughter and I said, "Awww, poor Filtch."
Because even though he was a tremendous pain in the butt, he took pride in his work. : )

Danielle Draco was secretly trying to get closer to the exit. :)
I have to agree though so awkward. Almost out of character for voldemort, if it weren't for what Lindis said he was doing it for. Really though if I knew voldemort would hug me I would want to join his side even less.

Yep, I think that Narcissa knew what was going to happen. Well, she did know that Harry was alive, and she just wanted to get her son out of there!

Yeah, it would be creepy to hug Moldywart. (as my daughter and I like to call him)

Arti That was hilarious. Draco's face was priceless! And so was Voldy's!. Everyone at the preimire laughed. PRIZED SCENE!

Caroline C. yea it was funny but ever since i read the book iv loved narcissa!!!

lol, so true

message 18: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna I didn't see it was a hug (and in the cuddle sort) - Voldemort was on a high. He'd done it, Harry was dead by his own hand, nothing could stop him now and it was more of a visual 'claim' to those of Hogwarts of Draco by Voldemort.

Alienne I went at midnight, and the whole theater started giggling at that part. xD

Stephanie | PaperbackswithSteph Yeah, that part was funny . . .everyone was laughing because I don't think Voldermort's ever hugged or showed any kind of "affection" to anyone (besides his snake), so it was definitely a funny surprise. And I really enjoy these type of humor scenes in the movies because they lighten them up a bit.

message 21: by Shay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Shay LOLOLOLOLOL I found it hilarious!! If someone gave me a hug like that I would have been like "you know what? Just...just don't hug me, don't even touch me..."

oh that scene was so funny! I'm cracking up just thinking about it!

Zoë the Awesome BEST. SCENE. EVAAAAAAAAAAR.

agreed

That scene was weird. I think it scarred me for life...

Gabriel I found that creepy. Condsidering how Voldemort looks, and the fact that Draco was weeping. I get the feeling that Voldemort isn't the type of person who would even know what a hug is. So why they inserted it in the movie is beyond me.

Ryann Agreed, I thought that was pretty strange for Voldemort to do. Though I do get that he was on cloud nine for finally killing Harry Potter. Though I did love that when Harry decided to surprise everyone with being alive, that Cissy took Draco by the hand and led him out of Hogwarts, with Lucius following behind them looking back. But I liked it better in the book where the Malfoy family stayed at Hogwarts, in the Great Hall and sat awkwardly with the good guys, it sort of makes more sense in my opinion.

I agree, I liked the book better when it came to how the Malfoy family ended. In a lot of aspects, I was disappointed, especially the very ending (epilouge in the book) I was frowning.

Wow! You really understand this stuff!

Same here...but then again, at the premier, we were all Potter nerds, so we laughed at parts that no one got the second time I went.

Gabriel I like how Harry actually fell out of Hagrid's arms, not jumped. They were all looking at Harry to see whether of not he was alive or if Hagrid just dropped him.

Lol I haven't watched the movie yet but check this out it is seriously creepy

message 34: by Carita (last edited Jul 22, 2011 10:30PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carita The hug: unchacteristic, it showed him capable of some kind of emotion (no matter how demented)

Emily I loved it !!!! it shal be forever know as voldy and dracos epic hug!! I laughed....

Caroline C. Carita wrote: "The hug: unchacteristic, it showed him capable of some kind of emotion (no matter how demented)"

yea it was unchararistic but i dont think anyone cares if its unchararistic cause it was random and funny and awkward and it was the last one i think it was too lighten up the mood at that moment

Allie b when did they hug?

And when Voldemort did that reallly funny laugh...lol

A Foxtrotter Reads No one laughed when I saw it. The first thing that came to my mind during the hug was, "Don't you think everyone is going to see right through that pathetic attempt at emotion?"

Natalie Voldemort's only personality trait is pure raw ambition. He seeks power. The "hug" is just a parade of his power. It was in the same way that polititions kiss babies. Not because they just really like babies. They do it beucase its a vain and poor attempt at some PR. It is also clear that it was fake and just for show. What I thoguht was creepy was the black student with a smirk on his face. He just didn't fit in with all the sad, defeated faces behind him. WHO WAS THAT GUY?

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I just loved the look on Malfoy's face...pure disgust mixed with loathing for the evil man (after splitting his soul though was he even very human anymore?) who had taken away the innocence of his life too soon by forcing him to become a Death Eater at such a young age. I feel bad for Malfoy. He never really wanted anything to do with the evil side, but rather was forced into becoming "evil."

Cheyenne Natalie wrote: "Voldemort's only personality trait is pure raw ambition. He seeks power. The "hug" is just a parade of his power. It was in the same way that polititions kiss babies. Not because they just really l..."

I agreed with this take on why Voldemort did it rather than the one the other poster mentioned about him trying to win over the rest of the Hogwarts kids or showing emotion. It was just for show...he could care less about these kids. However, I also thought this part was hilarious and loved it how Narcissa got her family together and bailed.

Don't quite remember, but I think the black student you mention might have been Dean Thomas...he seemed to get a lot of face time in this movie. The only other black student was the Slytherin Blaise(?) kid...but I don't think he was around at the end.

Loved the movie overall!

Courtney Good point, Lindis!
After the movie, my sister and I were talking about our favorite moments. This moment was the one we brought up as a joke- it was just really awkward...

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

That's not weird...
O_o

message 45: by no (new) - added it

no I went early in the day so the movies wasn't crowded. So when that happened, I was just like O.o and paused. I was already crying and literally shaking and sick. When Voldemort hugged Draco I thought I was going to faint from everything. All the waiting, all the sad goodbyes from the cast on TV shows, and then I'm watching the movie and I"m freaking out.

Afterwards I laughed a lot, but at the time I was like I'm going to faint and the whole world has gone topsy turvy because Voldemort is handing out hugs and laughing!

EH HEH HEH!!!

message 46: by Judy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Judy Basmaji I was like BEGGING Draco to do the right thing for once in his life in that scene, espacially after harry savd his life. He looked so vulnerable it made me wanna cry, it was so unlike Draco. He had tears in his eyes! All I could think was PLEASE don't walk over to the other side. PLEASE stand your ground for once in your life. And I was immensely dissapointed when he walked over to voldemort and his parents. But at least he refused to fight against Hogwarts with Voldemort. I think Draco has a heart deep down inside.

David Williamson EVERYONE laughed in the theatre. Really was one of the rare comedic moments of the film.

Zoë the Awesome Judy wrote: "I was like BEGGING Draco to do the right thing for once in his life in that scene, espacially after harry savd his life. He looked so vulnerable it made me wanna cry, it was so unlike Draco. He had..."

You have to cut him a little slack, though...it was basically a choice between "Have no family and spend the rest of your short life running and hiding" or "Stay with your family and spend the rest of your short life running and hiding."

Zoë the Awesome (Also that didn't happen in the book! Just sayin' :D)

Katie When it first happened you could tell everyone in the theater was confused but then everyone started laughing. I thought it was hilarious! But at the same time, I couldn't decide if I was annoyed by it or not because Voldemort just doesn't give hugs, I mean really.

But yeah, the whole time Harry was "dead" the movie kind of turned into a comedy for me.
