I respect that but I disagree. My religon defines marriage between a man and a woman. And international research shows that people who have both a mother and father tend to be more successful.
I used to go to a Christian school and I am fully Christian, but still. I mean, the church says to treat everyone equally and respect everyone, so why are they saying no? If that is equal treatment then I need professional help. And my friend is bi, and when she walks down the street holding hands with another girl, people honk at her, pull over their cars and yell at them, isn't that sad? I couldn't imagine dating a guy and being yelled at by strangers! And not only that, but she's 14! I think it's unfair to vote yes, because you're basically saying, "Nope, sorry. you can't get married." I'm not gay but I really don't care if gay people get married. It their choice. They're going to be together anyways! But that's just my view on things.
The church says no because God defined marriage to be between a man and a woman. Jus look in Exodus or Dueteronomy. I think its somewhere in there. And it is sad that your friend has to be yelled at, but it will also take away religious freedom. If prop 8 doesn't go through then they'll be setting aside a day to talk about gay rights. That's politics getting into the schools! In Massechusetts or something there was a guy who's son had a gay textbook and he was in kindergarten! The dad went to the school board saying he didn't want his son to be learning from that textbook and they threw him in jail!
What I don't get is, WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL!?!?!? If you have gay parents, that doesn't mean that you are going to be gay!! People did research and found out that its something in the brain that you are born with!! So how can people help it!?!??! I mean I'm Catholic, but I really can't see what the most horrible thing is.
Today I got a flyer saying yes to prop 8, and it said, "Remember, if pigs were gay or lesbian we wouldn't have bacon." That is stupid. If gay marriage is legal, then people aren't just going to suddenly say, "Oh, I'm going to be gay now." Even if the law isn't passed, it doesn't mean people are just going to suddenly change!
Same sex marriage can looked at in a lot of different ways.
Honestly, I think the biggest problem that we are facing in the United States is the seperation of Church and state.
We are looking at a country that was founded on good Christian values and these values are getting challanged by those who are athiest and same sex marriage.
The biggest conflict here if you believe in religion is that The Bible is opposed to same sex marriage. Man and woman were created to be together. And we know that the proper way to children by procreation of a man & woman.
Granted todays tecnology anyone can have a baby now days.
Your next conflict is that if you follow the religions belief you are not "seperating church & state" but you are also descriminating against individuals which is also against our "freedom".
The debates and the political flyers will try to change your mind to their beliefs. But what you have to look at-what will make you happy! What do you feel is right.
Not just that but you have to ask yourself is your religious belief more important or is your political belief more important.

Prop 8 thing just makes me mad.I believe that, no matter what, people should be aloud to marry who they want, no matter sex. People say it's wrong cause the Bible states marrage should be between a man and a woman, but we forget the Bible comes from a time when the thought of same-sex marrage wasn't even thought of. so in truth it's not saying anything against it.
Second, people also say that same-sex marrage shouldn't be aloud because it stops creation of children. Like our orphanages arn't full enough already that we need more? And same-sex parents came be just as good of parents as a man and woman, and they give homes to children that don't have ones.
