Funny! :)

Why not?

Thanks, Misha. I just sent it. :)

Smetchie, here's HuffPost's suggestions of who to follow: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07...
I didn't really find anyone terribly exciting to me on that list, but you might.

There are a lot of writers on Google+, so I am mostly circling writers I like. If you find one person you're interested in, you can troll their circles to see if there are others.

As for finding stuff to link, I just copy and paste when I see something worth posting.

The interesting phenomenon is that all the circles make me way pickier about who I send to, even with stuff that I thing is pretty globally interesting.

I have a 'random people who added me' circle which is almost empty.

I am often disappointed by the lack of Google+ share buttons around the internet, but just copy+pasting the link into the share box works fine. You can also click on the 'add video' button to search Youtube for videos.

Yep. I just figured that out, as I my first stranger added me to a circle last night. I'm watching his posts to see if he's someone I would be interested in following. So far he's just a random dude. "

I keep having to tamp down the urge to circle everyone right back. There are a few people who I'm leaving outside the circles since I can't figure out why they want to connect. There are some writers I don't know who have added me. They've gone into a "writers I don't know" circle.

Next question: If you choose to broadcast to "my extended circles" who does it go to?

If you choose that option your message goes to everyone in your circles and everyone they have in their circles.

Sarah | 13814 comments Hmm... I was hoping it just went to the people in my circles and the ones who have circled me that I haven't circled back.

It feels kind of intrusive that I could message all of your circles if I wanted to.

It would just go to their incoming stream.

I gave Jim another email address of mine and that worked. I think what happened is that a couple of weeks ago I tried to join using my usual email address and clicked on the link to be contacted when the site goes live. I'm thinking that my email was flagged and therefore Jum and Carol were unable to invite me.

Thanks Jim and Carol!

Janice (jamasc) Misha wrote: "Is your usual email a gmail? I think they're only letting people with existing google accounts in right now."

No, it's not a gmail account. The one I got in with is my apple account.

message 66: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I found my way there, set up a profile as Jan S and added some people to my circle. I'm a little confused about the whole setup, but that will come as I play a bit more.

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Yeah Misha has that right I think. I'm still trying to figure it all out but it's starting to make sense. I have a few folks who have added me, but I ignore them because I don't really need to see their posts. At first I thought they see my posts only when I share with "Extended Circles" which is a sort of wide broadcast that includes anyone even loosely associated with you (friends of friends), but its only with Public sharing. (Just edited that cuz I had it not quite right before.) I wonder what people use the public sharing option for though?

Anyway, yeah, I have both Google+ and Spotify and am enjoying both. Google+ is like a more user-friendly version of Facebook, but since hardly anyone is using it, at the moment it is really, really boring.

Spotify has been great so far. Of course, the really great version is the paid version, which I am too cheap to use at the moment, so I get ads occasionally. I was able to use Spotify to create a public playlist to share with one of my Goodreads groups. Very cool feature.

If anyone needs an invite to either one of those, let me know. I have some I can share.

message 69: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Extended circles isn't actually the widest broadcast. The widest is "public." Extended circles is weird. It broadcasts to your circles and then to random friends of friends with whom you have no connection but google somehow thinks you may want to share. They won't share how they decide, nor whom they are sharing your post with. Now that I understand, I am anti-extended circles.

The people who have added you that you haven't added back only see your public posts, not your extended circle posts.

message 70: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Yeah I don't like the extended circles either... I have trouble seeing where it is useful. Maybe it will make sense after more time using the site.

message 71: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I would only use it with something I wanted to make public, since I have no control over who sees it. Therefore, I might as well use "public" for those posts.
