Victoria Whitlock Andy Parsons and Cam Trantham were childhood sweethearts who grew up together in the southern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. They played the same pranks in school, had the same friends and enemies, traded baseball cards and used gum with equal abandon. They started going steady as soon as they were old enough to coin the phrase and everyone assumed that they had their wholes lives spread out before them and that they would do it all together. However, at age sixteen, Cam dropped out of high school and completely disappeared from Andy's life without a word. A chance meeting in an outdoor market on the coast of Brazil brings them face-to-face again after twenty-one years of separation. Their reunion is bittersweet. Life has changed them both. Andy has never stopped looking for that one thing that was ripped from her life so many years ago but Cam's future is already written...mapped out by the needle tracks on his arms, and together they are forced to redefine their version of The American Dream.
