Faith Noelle Smith The capitol, could it run without Snow?

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 523 comments No, maybe?.They run on him..Like he does all of the mean deeds. Perhaps their are good capitol people..Cinna..Or maybe Snow's children would run it if they are evil too.

message 53: by Faith Noelle (new)

Faith Noelle Smith Well that wouldnt help anything.

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the the airheads wouldn't do anything once their government was gone. I think they chopped off the head of the beast when Snow choked to death on his own blood or whatever. And of course Cinna came from the Capitol, so I can never actually hate the place.

message 55: by Faith Noelle (new)

Faith Noelle Smith Okay but, if Snow lived they would be in the same place they were before so isnt it better that he is dead?

message 56: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm extremely glad that Snow died.

message 57: by Elliot (new)

Elliot (nightowlreader) I have mixed feelings about the Capitol...the people aren't all that bad. It's the leaders who deserve the hate...Personally I think that Snow was the worst...he was just creepy...Coin, to me, seemed a little more trust worthy, I was surprised when katniss...oh wait...just read the third book...if you have you know what I mean:)

Eve (emusings) The capitol is naive. What can you expect? They live a life of plenty, and have never known differently. Like us. They see the tributes not as people but as an opposing force that challenges their safety. Like us. They profess to be correct, because it is what they where taught. Like us. They are in no way evil, they are naive, and they follow blindly in the footsteps of the one who holds the most power, however corrupt, because they know no different way.

As for Snow, he is obviously your generic villain. His sole purpose is to be Suzanne's pawn and the target for our anger. By definition, he is evil.

As far as Fay's point on worldly politics is concerned, I have mixed feelings on your wording. It is troubling that you would blame the members for discussing the topic presented to them for discussion. If you wish for people to debate on the very real issues in our world today, then by all means, make a topic for that, and I'd be glad to share my views, but don't chastise them for enjoying a book enough to participate in a discussion made by yourself. Additionally, the fact that they are avid about this discussion does in no way mean that they don't care about the real issues at hand. A person's brain has been known to have more then one concern at once. In fact, the matters in question are intertwined into Suzanne's book, and the capitol by definition. I cannot speak of my views on the capitol without connecting them to the many issues in the present. You do have an interesting point, though, possibly if your wording had been more supportive, drawing members into a discussion on the relations between the present day and the world of the Hunger Games, your views would come across in a more positive and constructive light.

Having said this, I'd love to hear what everyone thinks. How do the issues discussed in this topic relate to the issues in our world? What other connections do you find? How would Capitol citizens thrive in our world?

Food for thought!

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 523 comments A lot of food for thought...If we lived in the Capitol, I'm sure we accept everything, since we were raised that way. One of the major relations is the Roman fight to the deaths, which, in my opinion, were a bit worse. The things they did to them! It makes it all the more horrible that something as inhumane as this once took place in our world.

message 60: by Eve (last edited Jan 04, 2012 07:30PM) (new)

Eve (emusings) Very true! The relation to the ancient Roman gladiator battles may be one of the most prominent relations. What about some modern day relations to the world of the hunger games? Our capitol-esque franchises, or sports, reminiscent of the arena, for example.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 523 comments Hmm..Well I guess some of our more contant sports..not really though. I find a lot of similarities between THG and reality t.v. shows. For instance, both reality t.v shows (ex. Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Real Housewives, Rock of Love) and THG both have squabling and in-fighting, romantic intrigue, fashion and style, and "underdogs" we root for and want to win.

message 62: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) That's a great point! I believe Suzanne even said that she came up with the idea while flipping though TV channels!

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 523 comments Thanks but..I actually didn't come up with it. I have a book that talks about how they relate to each other. It's sick, those shows.

message 64: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Wow, there's a book out? What's it called? And I agree about the shows, it scares me that animals of our own species enjoy watching these things, it's shameful.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 523 comments I think it's called the Unoffical Hunger Games guide..something like that. They have one chapter called Hype over Substance...And it was the only one I liked out of 7 or 8 chapter...The thing I hated was that she got major details wrong;she said Katniss's prep team died, Katniss was a drug addict and suicidal (I don't think so), that Peeta's hijackking brought out Katniss's softer side (definitely not)..Even though she insisted she read the seires a few times. I wouldn't advise others to buy this book.

message 66: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Hmm, that seems kind of weird... I wonder of she even payed attention to the book...

Really? I refer to Katniss as the "suicidal druggie" a lot. All the other stuff is wrong, though.

message 68: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Hahaha, though she wasn't addicted was she? She did take them a couple of times... the morphlings are the druggies.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

She got herself hooked on morphling at the end. The withdrawal was torture for her.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 523 comments I don't think so (Look at topic: Katniss..a drug addict)
She was used to the morpling, and resented Johanna taking it from her..but she was weaned off of it. It wasn't excactly tourture, but it was hard.

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) Good question. I wouldn't

message 77: by Lanie (new)

Lanie Jazz (strumsingluv) No!!!!!!! I don't cuss.

message 78: by Lanie (new)

Lanie Jazz (strumsingluv) I'm against cussing, unless your VERY mad.

message 79: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't cuss. I curse. There's a difference.

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) There is? What is it?

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

Cussing is swearing for no good reason. Cursing is swearing for an actual reason - like, say, dropping a clothing iron on your foot -_-

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) Oh, did you do that?

And, u changed my name to Charlie this morning by the way, Im making all my friends and teachers call me that. I'm tired of being called Charlotte for 14 years

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

All right, hi, Charlie :)

Yeah, I did. It was PAINFUL.

message 85: by Lanie (last edited Feb 28, 2012 08:30PM) (new)

Lanie Jazz (strumsingluv) Ouch. Thats bad. Ok, then sometimes I curse but I don't cuss. And I rarely curse.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

I want Snow to DIE PAINFULLY and SLOWLY!!!
Coin even more so.

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I want...PLUTARCH to join them. Yes. Plutarch. He was annoying.

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

WHAT?????

message 89: by Blank (new)

Blank | 4 comments I think the Capitol and most of the naive people living there were ok. But Snow and Coin were truly messed up in the head.

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

Totally!
plutarch was geuninely nice though.....

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)
