Carina I know - I think it would have to be someone who has a male twin but, due to the age of Alanna (and later Kel) at the beginning of their training I think it would be very hard to do.

Perhaps an animated film would work better and then just get famous voice actors...

no. no no no no. fuck no. not ok. animated movies are not ok. i would die and cry and kill myself all at the same time. that would suck so much ass it's not even funny. it would kill alanna for me. twin boys and girls don't look that similar, I know a few, they just look kinda close. it wouldn't be that hard, they don't even have to be related actors, they can be different...

Ana p.s. sorry to break it to you, but numair's black...

Koleen Hansen I think it colud good movie

Carina Ana, have you ever watched some of the movies by Studio Ghibli? They are very good. I am guessing from your reaction your would be okay with a live action movie?

And I never picked up on Numair being black! I think I am going to have to read the books again - it has been about 7 years.

Shanna I went to one of Tammy's book signings and there have been, she said, many negotiations, but they always want more control over characters than Tammy's willing to give them, to the point where she wouldn't legally be able to write the existing characters in new novels.

Carina Wow, in that case am glad that it hasn't been adapted then. I have not been able to read any of the newer books (Beka Cooper and the continuation of the Circle of Magic series) but I plan to when I can find them and it would be a shame that no more are written.

Shanna Tammy described it as (and I'm paraphrasing here) not being able to write (or mention)Daine in the Maura of Dunlath books because they now own the character from making "Wild Magic" into a film for example.

Carina Utterly ridiculous. Considering how many Hollywood movies are concerned about turning things into a franchise you would have thought they would want more mentions of a character...

Shanna True but she said that's why nothing had happened yet, though admittedly that was a couple of years ago now.

Inès Mastellotto-Lesny They should soooooo make a movie out of this amazing book!!! When I was reading it I kept thinking of great people to play the main roles in the book.

Jill Heiner i beleive that all of Tamora Peirces books should become movies... but of course I'm really biased since i want to become an actress and think that it would be marvolously fun to become Alanna or Kel or even a scullery maid from the land of Tortall....

have you read the fourth book... after he sees the princess.... he changes but i can see how you can think that he is kindof winey..

ѕтαяк I am not sure about this one, I think that the Alaana series was great without a movie.

Ugggh movies for books are bad and I agree with all the pole who said if it comes out ill have to watch it and my imagination is soon much better than who ever they would cast!!

George is a sexy-ass beast. What are you even saying.

I've read all of them multiple times. He's immature and self-centered, and whiney.

Well obviously, but they describe his crooked nose and they imply he isn't the most handsome man but obviously his personality makes him super attractive.

George is a sexy-ass beast. Your argument is invalid.

Alyssa When I say "I wish they would turn this book into a movie" what I really mean is "I wish they would turn this book into a 17-hour-long spectacle that includes every single solitary detail and doesn't deviate at all from the storyline and has perfect casting."

Alyssa I just found that saying on the internet. I really think Tammy's books would be better as TV series. All of her books, not just Alanna.

I try not to go on too often, because if I do, I'll spend hours and hours wasting my time and not being productive.

Alyssa I'll do that too. Mostly I go to the humor page looking for a good laugh.

I generally look at all of it. There's really cool places to go to, and delicious recipes, and pretty dresses, and inspirational quotes, fun DIYs, and yes, hilarious things.

Alyssa I could probably handle the "food and drink" page if I could stay away from the desserts.

Come on now, let's be real hear. It's not like you're gonna leave your computer long enough to actually MAKE one of those desserts. I know I never do. I just bookmark the recipes and tell myself I'll make them eventually. Eventually has not yet arrived.

Same here. Whenever I learn that one of my favorite books will become a movie, I'm both excited and afraid. Exited to see the story up on the big screen. Afraid because I know they're going to butcher it.

Stenedria I would love it if this series became a movie saga as long as it is 100 percent true to the novels and if the special effects are spectacular and real-looking.

Alyssa Taking into consideration that if they turned this series into a movie saga they would also have to turn the other series into movies, that would be a pretty long saga. Longer than Harry Potter.

Shazia Afzal If they can make twilight in to a movie. The lioness series is what i grew up on. It would be so amazing!

message 87: by Ana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ana I still think, with all of the other tortall series, instead of a movie, i'd like a tv show. the only problem is, those get soooooo screwed up...

message 88: by Sara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sara YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been thinking for YEARS that it would make a GREAT movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't understand why it hadn't been made into one yet lol. Only if it was done right though. I would be SOOOO mad if they did it stupid like Eragon or completely changed the story like Ella Enchanted!!!!!

Alyssa Ever heard of book-slappers?

Audrey Cobb Athena wrote: "I think all of her books could be a movie. And if they're going to make movies, they should do it in order starting from Beka Cooper."

That's a great idea but I actually disagree. I think Alanna's story is essentially the cornerstone for the world Tamora Pierce created. Her story lays down a lot of the lines, rules and creates a firm setting of the kingdom and its surroundings.

IF they did make a movie I think it would be challenging and most likely long - much closer to Avatar length than you're average flick.

Doable, but definitely challenging to transfer from page to screen.

Dragonfly If they turn it into a movie, they will just slaughter it like they did Percy Jackson. Tamora Pierce will have no say in how it goes and because there are several books different movie companies are going to end up doing each one. It won't be like Harry Potter. The money just isn't there because she doesn't make those kind of sales. I'd rather there not be a movie at all than to have one out there that completely frigs up the story.

Dragonfly Someone mentioned a television series. I think that would be closer to a success.

Alyssa My mom was like this about the Outlander series. She was afraid of turning the books into movies, but now their making a TV series and the writer is actually on board with all their doing and making sure they don't screw it up.

I agree. It will be cool as long as they stick to the plot ling, details, and descriptions of the book.

If that's your criteria for a good film adaptation then I'm sorry to say you're doomed to experience let-down after let-down.
The problem is that things that work in books doesn't necessarily work in film. They can follow the plotline fairly closely, but a lost of the scenes will have to either be abandoned or reworked in the name of pacing and in order to fit everything into about two hours of screentime. On top of that there's plenty of stuff in books that simply doesn't work in films. Books written in first person, past tense are especially troublesome since they rely so much on the main characters inner voice to convey the story. Aside from resorting to a narrator there's not much you can do about it except massively reworking the base material. Don't get me wrong, a narrator can work extremely well, Shawshanks Redemption is proof of that, but it's hard to carry out and it doesn't fit with most films.

The problem with details is that it's largely impossible to keep them all and still keep the film at a manageable length. That means they have to prioritise them and it's extremely likely the film maker will consider other details more important than you do.

The problem with sticking to descriptions is two-fold. One, everyone who reads it forms a different image in their mind.
Second, the descriptions given in books are usually woefully insufficient for a films art department since they have to render out everything while the author just have to describe bits and pieces and let the readers imagination fill in the blanks.
In fact, one of the marks of a great author is that he or she can get away with writing next to nothing and still leave us with a complete picture in our minds.
That's why you see so many discussions about how a film version looks entirely wrong, yet when you go through the book it turns out that it says basically nothing, if anything, about it.

Courtney It would make a good movie, but they would have to do it good. This would be easy to mess up. The later books would be even better, though - namely Kel and Diane. Diane would be cool with her Wild Magic and the shape-shifting parts.

This is true. If someone manages to make the Song of the Lioness books into movies without sacrificing the essence of the books, it could be really good. I'm no film expert, but I felt like the action Alanna was consistent enough to make a movie out of it.

I agree. Those parts would be cool. Btw, her name is spelled "Daine," not "Diane."

I agree with David Tennant, although Jennifer Lawrence would be a better Wildmage. (See, I didn't spell it! :P)
A television series would work well. Maybe even a whole Tortallan series, although that would be LONG!
