Fiona: If they have the Container store near you they currently have a sale on bookshelves. I need a new one too!
58 books for $10.00? You guys are killing me. Our library has a room where they sell books but I haven't looked there in a while. i'm going to start checking out library sales!
Twice a year my library has a huge sale with library books & donatations this is when I make great buys. I felt dang lucky yesterday. I'm on cloud nine but need to really start reading because I got some great books!
Beth: Glendale Heights has their book sale next weekend it's $5 for the first bag and $3 for next bag. But only on Sunday they are doing the bags. The Glendale Heights library is at Glendale Public Library District
25 E Fullerton Ave
630-260-1550
I've done the best at Lombard and Villa Park their next sales are in March & April of 2009. Remind me as we get closer & I'll send you the dates.
The trick to the bags is to shove them full. I almost bust the bag. I actually put an empty box in my car and by the time I get to the car the bag is ripping just put the bags in the box & carry in the house!

I HAVE TO STOP BUYING BOOKS..I HAVE TO STOP BUYING BOOKS....Yeah right. I am going to the final day of our library sale. Bag sale. As many as you can get in a bag for $5.00.
I'M NOT GOING TO STOP BUYING BOOKS...I'M NOT GOING TO STOP BUYING BOOKS...
Our library has good stuff & some crap. You just have to dig through it all.
I am sad for both of you Emma & Fiona. If you are ever in the US you'll have to hit our libraries.
How are Estate sales in England & Canada for books?

Look at my splurge... I think i did good. There was alot of junk left over, but I skipped over that.
Your splurge was great! Ack, why can't I hit the sales? That's my gift to myself for Halloween, a used book store spree!
Thanks for the info., Emilee! I'm going to try and go on Sunday and I made a note about Lombard and Vila Park. I'm getting excited now!!!!
We get a paperback that we can fill for $5. The most I've ever gotten in it was 48 books and some of those were a little over the top. I got dirty looks for those. I taught my daughter how to stack them to get that many also, so we do pretty well at those things. I now have a place that gives me books they have too many of or don't want so needless to say, I have A LOT of books to be read.
Awww shucks......i just ordered Jane Eyre and Emma online at Barnes and noble and a messenger bag, but the books cost less than half of the awesome messenger bag!!!!
Hahaha! That's great Kristie! I just made a new i-own shelf on GR, I have about 34 books to-read there. *sighs*
Emma: Estate sales are when a person passes away and the family hires a company to come in a liquidate the remaining belongings after the family takes what they want. Oh they are so much fun! Especially when you hit someone who reads a lot. I went to one the person had a library in their house. I was in heaven.
Paula: I wish mine did a paper bag if it's the size of the one's at the grocery store. I could fill that. I got looks on Saturday. The guy running it said I must be a professional shopper. I said book shopper yes!

A couple of years ago the husband of the palce where my mother used to work died and his wife gave me about 60 Agatha Christie books in perfect state! That was so nice, even if they are all in French.
I know!!!! And they had all a nice blue hard cover, like you used to see books in the past with. I am so proud of them and it helps a lot for my french that it are Agatha Christie's.
I had a friend from Brazil who learned English by reading romance novels in English. Completely fluent. I thought that was so cool. I always wanted to get books in a different language.
I have a sickness, a true sickness. The UPS guy waves at me with each Amazon delivery. I just don't feel whole unless there are books at my side. Has anyone tried Kindle? Does that help addiction, or just make it worse?
Holly
Wonders and Marvels
I am ashamed. I made another splurge today. What makes me feel even more ashamed is nobody has yet to comment on it in the Splurge thread. I seriously have a problem!
Thanks, Emma. Now I feel a little less guilty, but truthfully not by much. On the plus side, I did find some really great finds, like House of Pi in hardcover for six bucks. Come on. How could I pass that up?In truth, I actually did pass it up when I was a GW last week. It just happened to still be there today. With all the recommendations and posts I've been seeing about it, I couldn't just leave it at the store for someone else. I knew I NEEDED it for my home library.
$6 bucks? AMAZING! If I find Life of Pi, Book of Lost Things, or Blindness for suck a good deal, I would have to buy it.
Holly, I don't Kindle, I MP3. I can download books to my computer from the library for free and listen while I walk the track at the Y.
Poor Fiona!! Good I didn't pass when visiting the place. Replacing it by card factory really sucks! Why do they have so many of that shop in one city?????? And they are soooo cheap, not thinking about money ten.You will have to expand your bookshop borders...for your own mental health.
Oh no, I guess the book buying addiction is now going to go through the roof? I feel a Chapters pang coming on....
Fiona,is it wrong to be sorry for your duress and yet thoroughly entertained by how you've expressed it? I loved the tone of the rant, rubbishy cards and rubbishy cheap and thoughtless "gifts" sounded wonderfully inventive and British (I have a deep and abiding love for British expressions!)
Sherry, I'm with you. I love anything British! I lived in England for 4 years (my youngest sister was born there) and have always loved listening to and reading the british acsent and the expressions.
One of my closest friends that I work with was born in England and I just love her accent. Sometimes I tease her and she is like are you making fun of the way I talk... (she knows I am kidding, of course!)
Of course I brought more!!!Even though the rent is passed due I just had to buy more books.
I get coupons from Borders so I brought the following:
Towelhead
Lullaby
THEn I went to a Rummage sale and brought a million more for $9!!!
I got a lot of first editions YIPPEEEEE
Congrats on the finds, Donna! You can't go wrong with first editions and garage sale finds. Hello, there's nothing better. Oh wait, maybe free books, but that rarely happens.
"I think the time to give up books is when your friend knows you bought a certain book 2 years ago that you didn't even know you had."ROTFL, Fiona. That's not good!
OK, So I went to the Village (NYC) and there was a guy selling tons of books on the street and although I had read the majority of them I found The ArchivistI just had to buy it 'cause...I am going to be an archivsit (and at one point once was one) and then I went into the Salvation Army (for reasons I don't know) and Looky Looky I found Jeremy's recommendation Thud for what I thought was $2.99 until I got to the register and it was 81 cents!!! It turns out everything was 75% off too bad I couldn't find anything else I wanted.
You should check out paperbackswap.com. It's a great website to trade books. I have a ton of books that I buy on clearance or second hand. That site helps me keep trading out for different books and preventing my house from turning into a library. Let me know what you think.
I'm a member of Paperbackswap and like it OK. I am also a member of bookmooch and like it much better.I don't care for the restrictions Paperbackswap has on the books you can trade. For example, they don't allow Advanced Reader Copies to be traded and they are particular about the condition of the books.
I get a lot more requests for my books off bookmooch anyway and I like the organization of their site better.
I have some books on Readers United but it's not as good as PBS and BM.
I absolutely love British Accents. My girlfriend moved to the US when she was 10 she doesn't have her accent but her mother still does and I love to hear her mother talk.
I am really need to try to read the books I have before I buy more. I am so tempted to go to the B&N because they are moving and all the books are 50% off so they don't have to move them to the new store. I am really trying to be good!

My husband and I were discussing whether or not our B&N would have a massive sale before they moved a block up the street to the mall. He said no, I said yes. You've given me hope, Emilee!
OK Borders has to stop sending me coupons cuz everytime they do I buy more books and I have no where to put them and slowly I am going insane beacuse I want to read thme right now but I can't!!!
The coupon sending is horrible it makes me want to buy. I started throwing them away. I really really need to read a bunch of my books.
I did however have great self control. Went to Target to get laundry detergent. I picked upt two books but put them back! I need to read about 10 books on my shelf before I can buy another book.

I went to BJ's and brought only one book! AND when I went to go pick up my ordered books from Norder's I sent my husband in. BUT I did order 3 more from Borders and 3 from BOMC
