Samantha My ten year old cousins read this and their parents are like hard core Christians or something. I read it when I was twelve....

message 52: by Rena (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rena I would not let my kids read it at that age.

never heard of them wats the genre?"

It's like action/suspense. The basic plot is this kid who's an alien and he has to kill all the dangerous aliens because they killed his parents. He does it in order just like I am Number Four.

Julia idk i read it right when i was 11. But im mature 4 my age. I really think age dosent matter its all about maturity level. I do know that i hav never met a 9 yr. old that i thought was mature enough 2 read this series.

Well it all depeneds on if the child is mature enough for the book. And understands it in the way the message is given.

Terrie wrote: "Do you think these books are appropriate for children? Specifically, 9 year olds?"

Probably not. My mom has read the books and while she loves them and wants my ten year old brother to read them, she thinks he should wait until he's twelve.

Syahira I dont mind letting younger kids reading this. It brings an insight on hunger conditions and what desperate measures people do to children to survive. But Enclave is better alternative

Shelia I'm a 37 year old mom to an 11 year old son and 10 year old daughter. I originally thought this would be a good trilogy for them. However, after reading it, my children will wait a few years before reading this.

Well thats the parents choice.I love this books and if she thinks he should wait then thats her choice. Im only 13 so i would let my lil sis read itbut she is 11

I agree:)completly but it also depends on the kid and if they are mature enough

I think that kids should be more mature. I was walking down the road the other day and someone shouted out whore. People are ruder now then they used to be. This book has so much pain and suffering in it that it could enlighten people.

wow yues i was walking to the pool a fewdays ago and heard a dude yell hey bitch give me some. And idk why but he was talking to me ppl can be rude and ya this book enlightened me cant wait for the movie

Sαmαnthα My friend read the Hunger Games and she is 10.

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook Terrie wrote: "Do you think these books are appropriate for children? Specifically, 9 year olds?"

I actual found this entire series very disturbing.

Carly I think they should probably wait until the kids are old enough to understand the concept and to learn bigger words than normal.

Carly NOTICE:I think it would be interesting for a prequel to be made wich is about how the Hunger Games started.

Julia J. I'd say 12 or 13+. (And I hated it and thought it was really stupid, so maybe everyone should just not read it. Maybe 100+?)

Ellie I don't think it's just the violence that makes it a questionable read for a 10 yr. old or lower. For a younger kid the whole thought a dystopian society is a hard thing to grasp. I think Mockingjay would be the hardest read of the three for a little kid just because so much of it is Katniss reflecting on her life and her trying to make the right decision. It's the most mentally demanding book.

message 70: by Florencia (last edited Aug 19, 2011 11:40AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Florencia I think 12 or 13, but it depends because if he/she has read a lot or more mature books i think it would be okey

Carly It depends on your child's ability with understanding and use if words.

Kristen I think that if little kids, like middle schoolers want to read it then i guess thats okay, but they really need the kind of maturity that goes along with reading a series like this one.
I mean seriously, would they even understand what the theme or meaning really is behind it!?!?!

Ziyue 11 And up

musicluvr123 some 11 year olds can read them, but I would generally rate it 12+

Kristen i don't think it really matters the age, of course more like 7th graders and up, but it should really depend on their maturity level. if the student or even some adults aren't mature enough to fully understand why things happen then they definitly should not read these books.

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

9? yeah but you might not understand everything....

Kristen Alicia wrote: "9? yeah but you might not understand everything...."

Yeah, I mean if a 9 year old were to read these books, they really need to have a high maturity level, or they won't appreciate or understand everything.

Hasara I think its a good book , the copy i hav has an 11+ sign on the back. It's too violent for 9 years olds

Megan me...im 11

message 80: by Caty (new) - rated it 5 stars

Caty Sorry no a least 10 not even but any ages above that

Maddy I said in a different comment that the book was representing a dystopian society and the humanitarians among the ruled population that are willing to change the way things run. I believe that if you can understand the above statement and who it applies to in the book (i.e. Katniss being a humanitarian and the Capitol being the overpowering government), you should be able to read the book.

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles 8+ that is when i read it. wasnt that bad.

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Im 12 i think that's fine just not really any younger than 11 or 12. i dont think 9 years old is old enough, sry

Angela i think its a high school level books so its better for those above 10

message 85: by Peaceluvergirl (new)

Peaceluvergirl My sister read it at 14 and wished she'd waited until 16. Just saying.

April I think a mature 12 year old and up. But 12 is the youngest I would say could read it. But no younger than 12, I would say.The concept is disturbing (tho I adore the series- I'm 18 and I read the series last year, because I heard it was a movie. But no younger than 12 or 13 I would say.

Julia, dude call me JJ well, it depends if the kid's scary easy. I Read it last year when I was late 10. My Mom hd read it before me, to see if it was really bloody and goory, and in my opinion it doesn't. But in general age, 10 and up, but have their mom or dad or a older sister or brother first.

Julia, dude call me JJ I mean 12?? a little harsh, 10, 11,12 are mostly just the same mature level, just a year old.

Joer'ct(These battle scars, don't look like they're fading) Phillips Deftly a 12+ book. I turn 13 soon and even though I'm 12, my Mom did not like me to read it. The Death, Gore, and Torture factors are as bad as Lord of the Rings. Its also as bad as some of the mods for Minecraft, and deffatly as bad as Starcraft. Not recommended for people under the age of 12.

I'm 12 years old and Gore used to scare the shit out of me, AND I read the whole book for SRC Points. I also have a friend that's 8 years old That read The Hunger Games Series. Like I said 12+ Book. The Gore factor is worse Than Maximum Ride, anyway.

message 91: by Mwila (new) - rated it 1 star

Mwila Mwenya That is the dumbest question i have ever heard in my life. On my mama, on everything i love, kids read what they want to read. They could even steal whatever they want. Cause they is stupid. Just kidding. Kids shouldn't be reading any books that aren't g rated.

I was 11 when I read the book, so don't get your butt up in a twist. Also I was watching rated R and NC-17 movies at 3 years old because my dad was not bright enough to keep me away from gory shit. Think about THAT when you post a reply to this, cause there may be kids like me that may NOT be a fortunate as you. I was also allowed to play extremely gory video-games that now stain my memory plus I hear crud loads of profanity. So if you think you have it bad when reading this book, guess again, cause I had all that flood back to me when I read this at 11 yrs. old.

Read the post I just wrote. no 103. Think about what I said and then think about the question you asked.

Hannah Dear I just think that people who read it need to be able to understand the symbolism and such in the book. I read it when I was 14 (until then I thought I'd never be allowed to read it) and my sister can read it when she turns 13.

message 96: by L (new) - rated it 5 stars

L 12 and up that's it period amen. 11 year olds don't have the mentality. No just no 12 and up and that's it.

harriette du plessis sparrow its not as bad as some books!!

message 98: by L (new) - rated it 5 stars

L You know I read the books young in 5th grade now im in 8th and rereading I really don't think that in 5th grade I had the mentality for it and now I fully comprehend it so in conclusion even thorugh im 13 practically 14 12 is an appropriate age we don't need to exaggerate and expose children to mature books when they are at too young a age

It all depends on the person. I read this at 11, and I did not get disturbed cause I was used to seeing blood and gore from when I was 3. Plus I did not see the bad side. And you would think I'm 12, WRONG!! I'm 13 and I have Asperger's, so my impaired ToM skills kept me from too much!

message 100: by janet (new) - rated it 5 stars
