The plastic sticks attached to a flashlight that appeared to be different colored and glowing. Pretty cool even now, if I were on xtacy.

Karen K. Miller (karenkm) | 140 comments My grandmother had one of those washing machines with the roller on it to wring out the clothes. I thought it was cool. But now that I do laundry, that's a lot of work and that sucks.
My daughter had a Skip-It with a counter. I still think that is cool. Well until the counter broke. Then it wasn't cool any more.

Félix (habitseven) Wringer around the collar.

I had a red, green and black plaid pair and a black pair. I loved them so so much, but I don't think there's photographic evidence.

message 58: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Darn.

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments Garbage Pail Kids!
My brother-in-law and I just bought some at the Dollar Store and they were not nearly as hilarious/gross as we remembered.

Phil | 11837 comments The way you could get a loogie to stick to the ceiling at school and drop at some random time later in the day. Extra points if it landed on someone's head.

It was cool at the time -- especially if you had just eaten a banana and some chocolate milk. The banana gave it heft, the milk added color.

Not so cool anymore.

Geri Hoekz (flightsoffancy51) | 2 comments Jello! I never make or eat it now. Back then, though, I loved all the colors. And I especially liked making it in one of the copper molds.

Katie Robinson (mylittlesecret) | 9 comments Toe socks. I remember I had a green pair, that had frogs on the big toes. I also had a rainbow pair. Each week the girls in my class would have a competition to see who had the "coolest" socks...Now I can't stand to wear them.

message 67: by Allison (new)

Allison (thebookwheel) High schoolers still think toe socks are cool.

Félix (habitseven) Toe socks?

Karen K. Miller (karenkm) | 140 comments I have a daughter who only wears socks when she works her catering job and she doesn't care if they match or not.

I always thought toe socks were grody and could not wear them. Now they sell the toe shoes and I wouldn't be able to wear those either.

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
I never understood the impulse to wear socks with flip flops, either.

message 74: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments My daughter never wears socks that match.

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 538 comments My oldest is 22 and she still refuses to match her socks.
I match mine but they must have a certain flair to them. Well, they're more whimsical. Frogs, mismatched stripes, checked socks, ducks, etc. My latest addition is Animal from the Muppets playing the drums. I just love Animal! But no toe socks, please. That irritates my toes just thinking about them. And absolutely no socks with flip flops. What the hell are those people thinking? That is like the king of fashion mistakes.

message 76: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (booksdingle) | 21 comments its not even comfortable to wear socks and flipflops so it makes no sense to do so. I am from the U.K. when I was a kid I thought BMX & Chopper bikes, ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64 computers and Judy Blume books were cool - Judy Blume books seemed very 'naughty' and mine circulated around school several times...read one of her adult books a few months back and it just made me cringe - still very rude but maybe in a 'too much information' kind of way.

message 77: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (booksdingle) | 21 comments Kids chocolate and sweets were also cool, they tasted much better than they do now, probably far worse for us but thats why they tasted better!

message 80: by Emily (new)

Emily (azara3) | 18 comments Yep. And I'm the kid in the next aisle riding the grocery cart.
Oh, and Magic 8 balls. When I was about 5, I believed whatever that thing told me. I wouldn't eat, sleep, or bathe unless it told me it was okay. I lost it some time before school started, but now I suspect my parents stole it, though they won't admit it.

message 81: by Annette (new)

Annette Hart | 172 comments There are so may films I loved as a kid and have made my children sit through only to leave me with twinges of disappointment and grumpy/disgusted offspring. Perhaps the only occasion this hasn't happened is with "The Wizard of Oz"!

Harry (harry_harry) | 226 comments Pete's Dragon. Loved it as a kid and got super excited when I bought the DVD for my kids. Unfortunately, they like it. The movie blows. Not what I remembered at all. Now my wife is annoyed with me for bringing that garbage into our house.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I remember briefly wearing leg warmers and a cut-up sweatshirt inside-out like the girl in "Flashdance."

What do I see this weekend on the streets of my neighborhood, but college girls who have cut up their Iowa and Iowa State t-shirts to expose one shoulder, bare except for a bra strap. Ugh.

I hear you. There was a time during the early 80's when I fancied myself a member of the Specials, complete with suit, pork pie hat, and two-tone shoes. Thank God that passed.

Somewhere at home. I'd have to scan them.

Grandaddy's? I don't know whether to laugh or be frightened, very frightened.

What? Sugar Daddy's was already taken?
