Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Hi everyone. I just started participating in this group and love it. The discussions are so interesting, something for every book lover. I have been reading a lot lately, 8 or 9 books a month. I may not be able to keep that up as school has started and I'm a substitute teacher. I have my Masters in Library Science and am looking for a librarian job, but nothing yet. So sad, a librarian without a library. Ha, ha. Actually, my friends kid me about my house being a library because I have so many books and book shelves. My favorite places, besides my back porch for reading, are bookstores and libraries. When I walk into a Barnes and Noble, a feeling of complete belonging and contentment embrace me. I am looking forward to conversing with all of you about our favorite subject, books.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Jesse and Sherry,
The secret is three-fold
1) Empty nest - youngest child is 21
2) Unemployment
3) Housework a low priority

Actually the past two months have been exceptionally high volume months. Maybe I'm reading faster, although I'm not a very fast reader. I have also been more voracious than ever for some reason. Thanks for the welcome.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Thank you all for your nice welcomes. I am so pleased to be a member of this group.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Oh, Sherry, have you read Ariana Franklin's other two novels--Mistress of the Art of Death and its sequel, The Serpent's Tale. They are wonderful, too. This author has written some other books under another name. Neither of the names is her real name. I can't remember her real name right now or the other pseudonym. I know that I love her writing as Ariana Franklin. I'm so glad to find a fellow fan.

message 14: by Marsha (new)

Marsha "Housework a low priority" I love that!

Welcome Kathy.

message 15: by Sherry (new)

Sherry LOL Kathy housework a low priority

I have read her other books and greatly enjoyed them though City of shadows was definitely my favorite. Her pseudonym is Diana Norman and she wrote a series with three books which are hard to get a hold of and expensive to boot but I keep looking.Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky! :)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Well, Leppaluoto, it is rather freeing when you don't have to be a good example anymore. Ha, ha. To ward off visions of me living in a pigpen, I guess I should explain that I do keep things reasonably neat, just not overly concerned at this point in my life. The one area that I am fussy about is my back screened-in porch, as that is my favorite place to read.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Hey Marsha,
I should add that I consider the Swifter dusters to be the single greatest invention of all time. It's such a quick fix for dusting, fooling people into thinking that you do care about such things.

message 18: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Sherry, I did find some of her other books by Diana Norman on Amazon. I believe that some of them are available at a reasonable cost. I do remember there being an imported price on something, too, though. I think City of Shadows is my favorite, too.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments LOL, Leppaluoto. You know, I think I was lucky in that I grew up with a mother who thought my reading was time well spent. I think my kids got that reading was a worthy activity, as I'm sure your kids are getting, too. I feel so sorry for kids that grow up in households where reading is considered a waste of time. I shudder to think of those poor kids. Keep up the good work and reading.
