Dawn (breakofdawn) I'd need one of those corset dresses that proudly present ones bosom.....

I'm in! :D

message 253: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Mmmmm, I want one of those giant turkey legs....

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I used to go to the Ren Faire all the time with my family when I was younger, and then with friends when I was in college. Then I didn't go for several years until a few years ago - and everything was pretty much the same. Was a bit disappointed that in the 7 or so years I hadn't been they didn't really add any new shows or anything.

That said, we do have plans on going back this year. It rained last time and Jer never did get to see the final joust.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I need a new bodice. I think I outgrew my last one. :(

I "joke" that I could wear my wedding dress - but it's more Medievally than Renaissance, really. Not that they usually care all that much about accuracy, really. I mean, it's not like the SCA folken.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Yes, don't cross the SCA...or wear pointy ears, they hate that.

message 260: by [deleted user] (new)

SCA?

Also, would it be wrong to dress up as a Klingon and challenge everyone to a duel to the death?

Only if they didn't insult you first.

message 262: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmmmmmm.

message 263: by [deleted user] (new)

So a french speaking Klingon wearing a proton pack from Ghostbusters while wielding a lightsaber after driving there in a delorean would be bad?

Now if they only had teams for old foggies like me.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) @Ala - SCA

As to the Quidditch thing - ya know, I'm as big a Harry Potter fan as the next crazy person, but I gotta say I think this whole real-world quidditch thing is kind of ridiculous.

Yea, I don't think it'd be very good. I mean, take out the flying and where's the fun? Plus the bludgers and snitch don't really move on their own in real life, so there's a big detraction there too.

message 274: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments From what I've seen the snitch is actually a human now - but they still make you hold the broom. That's the part that is silly IMO. Other than that...looks like good clean fun. No worse than dodge ball to be sure.

This sounds extremely appealing. I'd probably get tired of it though and resort to taunting the people who are getting beaten up, then beaten up myself.

As for the ren faire, I'm in, but I don't know about the corset thing. Those suckers are damned uncomfortable and I hate that cut in half breast thing so many seem to do. Maybe I could go as a nun. It'd sure save on the sunblock.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Denae...doing the French Taunter thing:
"I Don't want to talk to you no more, you Empty-headed animal food trough Water. fart in you General Direction. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries."

Be sure to run.

message 282: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments I hate running. Running in a corset sounds awful. Can't I just pretend to be faint and shriek for someone to save me?

*would never be able to do that*

*fails at looking helpless and girly*

*pretty much OK with this, although getting out of tickets would be nice*

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments I don't have any witty book related shirts. I'm short on nerd saying shirts in general. reddit and video game shirts I have.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) @Denea - The corset I had was pretty much just for the look of it. Didn't have any boning or anything crazy like that. It did have some thin metal bits, or something, in certain areas, but it was flexible so sort of defeated the purpose - which I was ok with. :>

Actually, I think it was more a bodice than a corset, but I've never been able to get people to agree on what the difference between the two is.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Ah. Then I shall stick with bodices, for they hold me in enough and give me very nice looking cleavage.

As for posture - maybe I should wear one more often. My posture at the computer sucks. :-\

I only have a few sayings shirts, as I tend to prefer designs, but I did recently buy a Firefly related shirt, and I have my 'Mischief Managed' shirt, of course. A couple of other movie related shirts, but not many book ones, aside from the HP ones.

I do have this one cool shirt of Edgar Poe's 'The Raven' written out in the shape of a raven, though, which I love.

Today I'm wearing my skeleton shirt. I like to quip that it makes me look thin...
