message 3152: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments Trying to comprehend what happened in my art history class today. This girl had been vomiting in class for a couple of weeks. No one was really sure why. Today, the teacher announces to the whole class that this girl is pregnant. Then, the whole class awkwardly clapped. It was some weird shit.

WTF. Is this the same teacher that did some weird shit before? Something sexist?

Yes, she's the one that made the comment about rape.

She asked the girl if it was ok to tell everyone. But she did it in front of the whole class, after saying that she had a big announcement to make. So basically there was no way for the girl to say no.

Susan | 6406 comments That teacher is a little out of control.

Yeah she needs to be reported. Two strikes.

message 3157: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) That is weird.

message 3158: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments I plan on writing everything down on my teacher evaluation at the end of the semester.

From the way she talks, it sounds like she's a major player in the art history dept. So I don't know how effective reporting her would be.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments This teacher you're describing reminds me of one that I had in high school and really detested, Laurin. I still have nightmares about her 25 years later.

message 3160: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments It just keeps getting more and more bizarre.

Luckily she isn't like this every day. I'm just amazed that no one else has ever reported her. I can't imagine that this is new behavior.

message 3162: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I don't know how much credence I would give to her talks of self importance around school. They could be as bloated as some of her other ideas.

message 3163: by Laurin (last edited Mar 04, 2013 08:14PM) (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments I looked her up on the university website. Apparently she is a "special lecturer", and she's the curator of the visual resources.

message 3164: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I would tell you to not let someone make you feel too intimidated to speak up about something that does not sit well with you but I have let it happen to me in the past.

Do what you feel comfortable doing about the situation, Laurin. Trust your gut instinct.

It's entirely possible someone or multiple people have reported her before and nothing has been done about it. Entirely possible everyone in the department knows about her bad weird shit.

message 3166: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments That, too.

message 3167: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments I guess I'm just afraid of rocking the boat for no real gain. I did that at my first college. I was being harassed and humiliated on a daily basis, by fellow students and even students employed by the university. When I spoke up, I was basically told to join a sorority and get over it.

Does your school have an ombudsman? That would be a good person to go talk to. Maybe the pregnant student would be willing to go with you. They keep everything confidential.

message 3169: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments I'm not sure. I'll look into it.

Sorry. Are you mad at me? You look mad. I'm sorry, Clarity. No, you're right. You are always right.

Reading an article about the "Large Labia Project," a "submission-based Tumblr." No, not going there. Not linking. Just reading with increasing horror.

message 3194: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments ::Cringes::

I refuse to dance to the Macarena.

I will get down to the Hustle and the Cupid Shuffle.

message 3195: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Love the Hustle! Learned that at a Lutheran Youth Convention in New Orleans in 1976. Sigh. Those Lutheran boys were HOT.

message 3198: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I went to a couple of church lock-ins at athletic clubs with a friend who invited me. Those church boys were movers.

message 3199: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Depends on the church. I probably told you about the Mormon dance I went to. I was 16 and wore a red dress. Every other girl there looked like Mary from Little House on the Prairie. The boys were afraid of me, the girls disgusted.

message 3200: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Scandalous! I never would have taken you for such a hussy. :) heehee.
