Janice (jamasc) Better check the cat for toothpaste.

How old is he? What is his breed? Does he have papers?
Unfortunately, horses are like cars. The upkeep (gas and feed) don't increase the value.

Oh jeez, thanks for that! I only had to try on two dresses, so maybe my risk is low?

Anyway, we chose the dresses. The damn things never fit right off the rack, so there's another 30-40 bucks added for taking it in. Argh. I can only complain so much, as the bride's mother is paying for half of the dress cost (not the alterations). Now, if only I had more faith in the longevity of the marriage, I could justify spending over $100 for the privilege of being in someone else's wedding.

He's got to be about 10 years old, a heinz 57 pony, with no papers.

Jammies Amber, if it helps any, the last time I felt like that was 25 years ago, and the bride and groom are still married.

I'm hoping they can do it, but I've lived with them for two years, and I just don't see it working out in the long term.

You're in Alberta? I bought a 1 yr old miniature mule out of a meat auction in Drayden (sp?)Valley for about $35 Canadian. $2,500 is too much. You could call his bluff but if he's a real a--hole, it's not worth a little girl losing her pony. Get a bill of sale and microchip him. Let me know how this turns out. What's his name?

The pony stays and my daughter-in-law will pay $2000 (when she can) for him. His name is Dune.

I spoke to a friend who was a legal assistant and she said that because the agreement was that my granddaughter could have the pony until she was done with him, it falls under contractual law and he wouldn't lose ownership title in spite of the fact that the horse was under our care at our expense.

message 1024: by Louise (new)

Louise Crying and staying home from work today. My husband and I went to the vet this morning, and had our 10 y old shiba Coco put to sleep :-( I truly hate this part of being a dog owner.

message 1025: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Oh, Louise, I am so sorry. Being a dog owner really opens you up for sadness as the price for all that light and love a dog brings into your life, and I know Coco will be missed. I hope you can use your day off to remember the good times and feel better soon.

message 1026: by Louise (new)

Louise Thanks Amber.
I think I've managed to comfort the kids, and reserve my own crying to when they're watching tv (I probably shouldn't have brought out those puppy pictures of her...)
It was the right decision, but man you grow fond of a dog who's with you for that long!

message 1040: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24788 comments Mod
Aw, that's too bad.

Is that a really big dachsund, or are shibas quite small? (You said the second dog in the last pic is a dachsund, no?)

message 1041: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Coco was a beauty! I feel sad for you and your family, Louise.

message 1042: by Louise (new)

Louise There are 3 sizes of dachshunds, and Mokka is of the largest breed. Coco is was sort of fox sized - so not that large - around 13 kg.

message 1043: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Beautiful dogs Louise! So sad to lose one when they have become part of the family.
We have been thinking of getting puppies lately, I sure hope the years of love outweigh the pain of loss...

message 1044: by Louise (new)

Louise It does Emily, for me anyway. And it's great for a kid (or grown up) to have a dog/cat friend:-)But then I've been sleeping next to a dachshund since I was roughly 3 months old, so I'm a little addicted!

We try to have two dogs with an age difference, so when you loose one - you still have the other.
In a year or two we'll probably get a new shiba, and then the dachshund will be 4-5 years old.

message 1045: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Louise's daughter is freaking adorable. How old is she, Louise?

message 1046: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments I was thinking two dogs as well, also so they can keep each other company when you're not at home :) It's a good idea to have a more mature stable dog when you bring a new puppy into the house..

message 1047: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Awww, Louise, Coco was lovely. *big hugs*

Thanks Cynthia ;-)
On the picture she's 3 (and telling dad not to interfere in her picnic with Coco (sharing all her food :-))
Now she's 5 - and starting school this Summer!

message 1049: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Right now I'm thinking at a certain age you can't go three nights with only 4 or 5 hours sleep and expect to function like a normal person.
