~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments This is the third or fourth thread I've read today to mention bacon. I'm so hungry right now, I'm not sure if bacon is following me through the threads or if I'm just extrapolating food references from everything I read.

Phil | 11841 comments Oh, it's probably just steak and potatoes your subconscious bacon wrapped prawns playing tricks on you. Next you could start seeing things!

No...I just have avoidance issues. I pull out all the bills and make sure they get paid on time and the bank statements and reconcile them. Everything else tends to sit and wait. This is how I realized that the New Yorker is offering me a 2-year renewal at $100, $80, and $70, each one labeled LAST CHANCE. I'm waiting for it to drop to $19.99 plus a Snuggie. Damn dirty bastards.

I'm just glad it wasn't because of a physical resemblance.

Mary (merrussell) I am packing for my trip to Vegas. Yippee!

message 664: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Today I am filled with gratitude for the fabulous men and women of the NYC Fire Department. Last night, for an hour and a half, they battled a blazing furnace/boiler in my brother's Brooklyn apartment building--just below his first floor apartment. He was beyond nervous when he called last night, but the firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the basement with minimal smoke/water damage to my brother's apartment.

Thank heavens no one was hurt--my brother said that someone's pit bull was pretty freaked out by the sirens, lights, smoke, etc. but the dog was better today.

Wow. That's great news, Cynthia. I'm so glad he's ok and the fire department was able to keep him from losing his home.

My dog would have been freaked out, too.

Jim | 6484 comments Glad things turned out OK, and no one got hurt Cynthia.

message 667: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Cynthia, I'm glad your brother is okay, the dog is okay and even the stuff is mostly okay! *hugs Cyn in relief and joy*

message 668: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Yep. Thanks all. All is well that ends well. Hope NYC doesn't get a big cold snap before they can repair/replace the building furnace! Lucky for this balmy weather, eh?

message 670: by Mary (new)

Mary (merrussell) So sorry to hear about the fire! Wow.
How scary that would be.
I'm glad no one was hurt.
God bless firefighters!

message 671: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments It's going to be 50+ degrees so it shouldn't be too bad for your brother, Cynthia! I'm glad he and everyone else is ok.

message 672: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Very mild today in New York, Cynthia. Glad your brother is okay and nobody was hurt. The NYFD does a great job.

message 673: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Jonathan: Tell me something, how does this work in the big city? Is it appropriate to send flowers or a big basket of cookies to a fire station in response to a successful dousing of a fire? I'd like to thank the boys (and girls) at the neighborhood station in Brooklyn, but I don't know if that is considered gauche.

message 674: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Cynthia: Firefighters like cookies and appreciate receiving them from well-wishers. This is a fact universally acknowledged.
