That's great! I've always wanted to foster animals, but I rent so I can't right now.

message 565: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments You're a saint, Jammies! :)

Right now, I'm feeling miserable, possibly with a stomach ulcer... if I can just make it through this Friday and through next week, I'll be okay - every single day, hour, minute between now and 5pm next Friday are going to count in a really big way. Things have to, I mean HAVE to, go well or I may be joining the ranks of the unemployed... Say an extra prayer, send a good thought, or whatever you do if you should think about it... :/

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Best wishes Heidi.
Right now I am crying. A local family just lost their boy to Neuroblastoma/leukemia. My heart hurts.

message 570: by Jammies (new)

Jammies *hugs Cynthia* I'm so sorry.

message 571: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Thank you sister Jammies. It sucks when they are so young.

message 572: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Oh, that's so sad, Cynthia. I still cry on the anniversary of my friend's nephew's death (also leukemia - but kicked cancer's butt & was in remission - died from an infection). Sweet baby was only 4... You're in my thoughts, ma'am. It's hard to find comfort for that kind of loss.

message 573: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments There are an awful lot of families here in town and elsewhere who are going to miss Eli. He was brave, and funny, and kind. I am finding comfort here with all of you on TC who have experienced similar heartache. Thanks, all of you big-hearted people.

Hugs back at you,

Janice (jamasc) Feel better soon, Heidi!

What a sad situation Cynthia. It's hard on everyone in a community when such a young one dies like that.

message 582: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I'm feeling a weird combination of guilt and defiance right now. My current job is offering me a raise, but I have a much better possible job on the line right now. I feel bad that they are (for once) genuinely trying to do something beneficial for me and I'm trying to leave without telling anyone, but I really hate this place, particularly as I find the company to be ethically questionable. I'm being a big fat coward by not airing my grievances, but at the same time they're not really constructive complaints. I don't like the business and the owner makes me want to strangle him on a daily basis. I know for a fact he's a liar and just out for what he can get. Argh, I hate feeling guilty when I know how much I want to escape. I wish there was a way to be fair without risking my meager livelihood or my sanity.

Sorry, I'm venting excessively again.

message 583: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Can you take it for now, knowing that you may leave? Try to avoid the guilt, either way, if you can. Easier said than done, I know.

message 584: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Yeah, they're going to give me the raise as they have no idea I'm going anywhere, or at least trying to. Most of the guilt just comes from not giving advanced warning that I'm trying to leave, but I can't afford to get fired before something else pans out.

message 585: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments If you have to work for a company you hate, I'd say you make sure to get as much money out of them as possible.

message 586: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments And try to squirrel away the raise money right now just in case?

message 587: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Sarah Pi wrote: "And try to squirrel away the raise money right now just in case?"

Good advice.

And to janine: also an excellent point. They're always bilking people out of money, I guess I should return the favor. Except I actually earn mine.

message 588: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Sarah & J9 both have good points, just because you are getting a raise doesn't mean that you have to stay. They still might not be paying you what you are worth, or what it is worth to you to have to stay and work there.

message 589: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Amber ~Geektastic~ wrote: "Except I actually earn mine."

Even more reason to take the money. Maybe you could even pay off some debt?

Right now I'm using googletranslate, from Polish to English. It's surprisingly accurate. Nothing like Babelfish.

message 592: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I survived last week (barely).

And then was so discombobulated over the weekend that I 1. dropped off a baby shower gift a week early and 2. went to work on Sunday at The Rep box office only to realize I was locked out... because the box office doesn't open until next weekend.

1 more hell week to go and then I'll be a happy girl again, maybe.

message 595: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Right now I'm eating Coco Pops with my R2D2 lightsaber spoon. I just returned from the supermarket where I discovered, while at the registry with my groceries, I forgot to take my wallet out of my weekendbag to put it into my regular bag. I told the cashier: "This isn't going to work, I don't have any money on me." The guy behind me in line immediately offered to pay for my groceries (I only had a few). Of course I politely refused at first, but didn't want to deny anyone their good deed. I thanked him nicely and while he was paying got the hell out of there just in case he was a creep.

message 596: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Good idea to run, Janine. I remember the time I got hit on in the produce section while holding a fussy, two-week-old daughter #1. The guy started blathering about how pretty the baby was and ended up sharing that he'd always wanted kids, but his ex-wife did not. Saddest. Pickup. Attempt. Ever.

I'm still stuck on the R2D2 lightsaber spoon. Can we get back on that topic for a bit?

That is a little sad. I don't know, maybe borderline gross too. Oversharing...

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments r2d2 spoon? i think i need more info on that too.

as for an act of kindness? awesome. too bad one of your first reactions was to think he might be a creep. might have been but also might just have been a really nice, caring person. i hope no one automatically goes to creep when i do something nice for someone.
