Sandra | 25908 comments Sorry, Dana, I haven't read any Richelle Mead books, so no opinion. Except that like you I've haven't heard many good things about the later books in that series, Eugenie seemed to polarise public opinion.

Yay on the stamp!

message 553: by Lala (new)

Lala | 1065 comments For this week i will go with Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins

Rosina | 1714 comments for demons It will either be Good Omens by Terry Pratchett or Nightkeepers (Final Prophecy, #1) by Jessica Andersen .....which should I read???

message 556: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments I haven't read Nightkeepers but Good Omens is a freakin' AWEsome book! I made a whole challenge based on it in another group! (Can you tell I'm a big fan?) ;P

message 557: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Sorry, Zina, I haven't read either one :(

message 558: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I read Nightkeepers and it's very heavy on the world building, and although it's a great concept it was a little disappointing. But the world left me interested enough to want to read the next one.

I haven't read Good Omens but I've heard great things about it!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I haven't read either one - but I have heard that the Nightkeepers series gets better and better as you continue. First one has lots of world building to slog thru.....

message 560: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I finished Firelight by Sophie Jordan today.

Firelight (Firelight, #1) by Sophie Jordan

I gave it 4 stars because it is an amazing world and I liked the YA paranormal romance. I loved that it was so different from other paranormal romances. It didn't hurt that it was about dragons, and not vampires, angels, or werewolves. I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

message 561: by Zaanodes (new)

Zaanodes | 804 comments Demons The Darkest Pleasure finished Aug 28 **** Dani doesn't take anything off of anybody except when it suits her purpose. How is Paris going to get Sienna? What is with Aeron's new girl? Tune in next time for LOTU!

message 562: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL Zaanodes :D I can't wait for Strider & Paris' books coming next. Glad you're enjoying the series.

Sandra | 25908 comments Deadtown (Deadtown, #1) by Nancy Holzner
Demon Shelf 31/8/11 ★ ★ ★

Our heorine, Victory (Vicky) Vaughan is a shapeshifter descended from the Welsh Cerddorion and can change into anything, but only 3 times per month. She's been trained to kill demons since she was a kid, you could call it a family business.

All was right with the world and then a plague hit Boston. And everyone human died and 3 days later woke up as Zombies. So all the paranormals were outed. Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, sorcerers and demons. Demons can be guilt induced or conjured.

Vicky makes a living killing demons and is especially keen to kill Difethwr, the Destroyer, the demon who killed her father and has been tangling with her family for centuries.

This book had plenty of action, bad guys, and yes I guessed who the evil sorcerer was fairly early on, interesting secondary characters, a maybe love interest, but I never really connected with the heroine.

This book is all about her and I just didn't feel it. I'll be reading #2 because I already have it and I can only hope Vicky is more likeable.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hmmmm ... LOL! Thanks for being the guinea pig on this one. Maybe I'll leave it for later. ;)

Sandra | 25908 comments I wouldn't rush to read it :(

message 570: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Hi Ladies a quick update for you

I finished my shifters read
Bone Crossed (Mercedes Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs Seppt 2/11

5 stars

Once again Patricia Briggs does not disappoint. Excellent story. I just love the way you get so engrossed in the story. This series is a definite keeper for me. I just adore the characters. I really like Stefan and Samuel but I must admit Adam is starting to grow on me. I wish we could have a story that has more of Ben.

Woohoo that completes our shifter shelf.

message 571: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Ok my demon read is
Succubi Like It Hot (Succubus Diaries, #2) by Jill Myles

started this morning and it has me wanting more and rushing through my packing for our camping trip so I get to it. So far humor, some sex and I am 30 pages in.

Gotta run. Off for camping and fishing this weekend probably the last one of the season. Have a good weekend.

Sandra | 25908 comments Hooray, us!

Zina's off enjoying herself, lucky girl :)

How's everyone else going?

message 578: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I'm good Sandra, thank you for asking :) I started school about a week and a half ago. It's tough balancing school reading and fun reading. But I seem to be managing. I can't believe I'm already in my third week of school almost, at least I only go twice a week.

How are you doing?

message 579: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I'm good :D

Just the start of spring here and the plants are about to burst, yay! Been a lovely day, just going on 5.30pm Saturday and the sun is just going down.

Time for a drink. LOL

Reading Primal Law (Alpha Pack, #1) by J.D. Tyler which I should have finished before tomorrow's new shelf announcement. And its only 2 hours to Dr Who, YAY!!

Sarah, what are you studying?

message 580: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I wish it were Spring, or at least Winter. It's just becoming Fall here. Early morning of Saturday (or late night Friday haha 2:22am).

I am reading a few books for review and for school. Plus Succubus on Top for the demon shelf.

I am getting my BA in English. I'm graduating in May!! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm trying to decide if I want to go into a MA program straight out of school or if I want to wait.

message 581: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments WTG, Sarah!! :D That's awesome! May's not too far off.

message 582: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Sarah, hopefully you're in bed now, and counting down the days till May, and not counting sheep!

Congrats, and my 2c worth, keep going for the MA now, much easier than if you stop, cause RL has a habit of barging in when you least want it.

message 583: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I concur, O'wise one. ;)

message 584: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments Thanks Steph!

Thanks Sandra! That's what I was thinking because my sister has said for a long time she wants to go back to school and get a MA but she still hasn't and she's been out of school for 6 years. I was only thinking of waiting because, to be honest, I'm terrified I won't get in! I know it's silly because I should still try but it's still something I'm worried about.

message 585: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Nah, never fear, my dear. Go for it! :D

message 586: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments You're right, I shouldn't let fear get the best of me. I believe applications are due by March so I have time to get stuff together to apply. Plus, I have a friend who went through the MA application process at the college I'm at now and she got in so she can help me with any questions I have.

Zaanodes | 804 comments Supernatural: Dime Store Magic

message 590: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments Zaanodes, I loved Dime Store Magic! Not as much as the first two in the series but Paige definitely grew on me. Hope you enjoy it :)

message 591: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Been out all day doing the Spring thing at the local plant nurseries, yay, love new plants :)

I'm undecided about what to pick, it will be one of the following:

Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward Claimed By Shadow (Cassandra Palmer, #2) by Karen Chance Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, #6) by Carrie Vaughn Sea Glass (Glass, #2) by Maria V. Snyder

When I start reading I'll post and let you know. Gotta finish Primal Law first.

message 592: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments Well I haven't read any of those Sandra so I can't give an opinion but I say go with Lover Avenged because you're further into that series. :) Just my two cents. I hope you enjoy which ever you pick.

message 593: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I really liked Rehvenge's story in Lover Avenged. ;)

message 594: by Zaanodes (new)

Zaanodes | 804 comments Finished Dime Store Magic Sept. 4 *** So, somewhere down the road Adam and Savannah get together, right? Paige gets her coven started with the girls? Lucas gets disinhiereted? And all is well in Otherworld...?

message 595: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I have no idea haha I have only read up to Dime Store Magic :) If anyone knows please don't be spoilery!

message 596: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL Zaanodes :D Not exactly... (non-spoilery, for Sarah and others) Savannah (w/Adam and others) is the narrator in Waking the Witch and Spell Bound. Paige is the narrator in the next book, Industrial Magic and where ever Paige is Lucas is too. :D

message 597: by Lala (new)

Lala | 1065 comments for this week book i will go with Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead

message 598: by Dana (last edited Sep 04, 2011 11:48AM) (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Well, I changed my mind for our demon week shelf and read

Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward 09/02/11 ★ ★ ★

This was better than I expected it to be. I enjoyed the premise, but I found the references to the vampire world distracting instad of being little 'jewels' in the story. AND COME ON WOMAN! Can she let it go with the 'shitkickers' references? OK, rant aside, the overall storyline is interesting and this could be a fun series. I won't be rushing out to read the second, but when I get there, I will be interested to see if it follows through on its promises.

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Just did a little checking on everyone else's progress. Doesn't look like anyone is slated to win with this week's announcement BUT, team 2 and team 5 have 4 in a row at this point (when all that have been called are finished). So, fingers crossed on what is called next! ;P
