ok, I can't get the add book/author thing to find me the books, but this is "the Mirror of Her Dreams" by Stephen Donaldson. The second one is called "A Man Rides Through" :)

the girl going into the mirror is the first one. I actually don't remember the ending, lol, except it's happy.
Yep Mary that IS the ending.Only thing Donaldson wrote I ever enjoyed.
