Blood Reaction question

On my blog I'm giving away this book to interested readers but I'm wondering what is about vampire themes that inspires such devotion from its readers. I admit to have been intrigued by the legends behind them and so tend to read those with a strong historical subthemes. I know a bookstore owner whom I frequent and she has read just about every vamp book around no matter the subthemes.
If you are a reader of this genre' what is it that motivates you to read them?
