On my birthday a few years ago, a 20-something year old at work asked me if it was a 'special' one. When I said No, she said I suppose they're all special at your age (I was in my early 50s at the time so not quite at death's door). So now I look at them that way too - every one is a bonus!

I'm now wondering exactly how old she thought you were! Or conversely, what she might consider a 'special' birthday.

Nah! Should have done but I just stood there, speechless!
She was one of those annoyingly precious airheads, who we were all very pleased to see leave!
(By 'special' birthday I think she meant a 40, 50 or 60th as we'd had a few of those at the time).

Thanks everyone! Got spoilt yesterday with some lovely gifts. No books, but some DVDs of movies and some movie tickets as well as some gorgeous flowers and a very tall orchid.
