Thats my favorite! :)
Thats my favorite! :)
Where do I get my books? The Library
Half Price Books
Book Sales (through out the year) at the Libraries around town
Target
Barnes & Nobles
My local Borders was my to-go place every weekend before the business shut down for good :( Barnes and Nobles has quite the selection, but it's a good half an hour from where I live. Bummer! I don't usually like buying books off the internet. I hate waiting for it to come in the mail!
I get most of my books from Book-a-million. I also love Barnes n Noble. My other source is Doubleday Book Club. I have a Nook Simple touch now, I guess I won't be buying as many books.
I usually get books from the library or Amazon for my Kindle. I read books ( real ones lol) and Kindle about 50/50. Just depends on the easiest way to get the book I'm looking for and I start with the library (free hehee) first. the best Christmas gift I got for my kids and I was a BIG gift card to Barnes & Noble. We spent hours there...we all got some new book, drank hot cocoa and just hung out together. That was a few years ago and my kids still bring that up.
Lets see I use to only do BAM(Books-a-million) because I had a friend that worked there. But I would also use Walmart, B&N, and Walldens when there was still one around. Lately it has just been with Amazon though. So I do a variety of places. I haven't used the library to much because it is a 20 minute drive away for the main branch and the smaller branches sometimes haven't had as much a variety.
So...I hear everyone on here talk and talk and talk about Barnes and Noble and I've always been so sad that we don't have a store in Australia. So I just went on their website to have a look and I couldn't believe how cheap the books were!!!!!! Second hand books for $1! So I just spent about an hour and a half going through my whole entire TBR shelf and searching for the books on B&N and choosing which ones I wanted - I kept checking the price and was just amazed at how cheap it was. I was so excited I could have burst. So I had about 11 books in the end, totalling $55 or something. So I proceeded to checkout where I entered my address....and my checkout price went to $250! :( I could have cried.
taxes suck, they have to pay that before they can ship so you do not have to pay. Now you know why the book prices where so different. When I want something shipped cause it is cheaper in the US I let a friend there buy it for me and ship it. If the package worth stays under €20,- I do not have to pay taxes. In the end you can still save a lot of money that way.

I generally tend to avoid shopping at Barns and Noble because it's expensive and I'd rather shop online or at Half Price Books.
I get alot of books from epupbud.com and if i like them then ill bye them sign up is free and they show up on your documents but nothing replaces a real good book but if your straped for cash like i am its agood resorse

They don't have them everywhere, but it's an amazing used bookstore that has almost everything you'd need for dirt cheap. For example, there was a book there a few weeks ago that is kind of rare to find for $6, I checked Barns and Noble's price and it was 24.95 there.
I just found that my Dad's book, Secrets of Inchon, is out in ebook format on Amazon. Expensive ($14.99); there's a note that the publisher set the price. I can't imagine why they would set it so high.

Sometimes I pick up books at the local used bookstore. Sometimes I go to Barnes and Noble or order online, and other times I order from BooksAMillion because they are connected with the Navy Exchange and I get free membership. It all depends on what I'm looking for.
I buy my books online. I rarely get used ones. I can swap with my friends from time to time, but mostly I buy books. I also get a lot of books as gifts.
For those that hate ebooks, I usually get my used books from half.com. I once got a $50 book for $5 (that included my shipping and handling) and you're protected under ebay so if you get the wrong book, they'll take care of the issue on your behalf.

I think I need to move countries!
I get usually get mine from Amazon, but always check Alibris, because occasionally they'll have a really good price. I get some from Barnes and Noble if they're on sale or I have a really good coupon. Sometimes I borrow them from people in my book club or from the library but I don't borrow from the library as much as I used to because I to have plenty of time to finish.
I started using bookcloseouts.com recently...almost all their stock is under $5, a lot for just $1 or so. They dont have everything but their selection is quite vast. I will order 5-10 at a time and spend less then $30... otherwise library, or the sale sections at Chapters/Indigo.
I get my physical books from various sources - specific ones I always buy from Amazon and I tend to look for offers on there for my Kindle too. I also know of a few free sites where I get my books for my Kindle, although they are less reliable these days. If I find a free book and I love it I always buy a physical copy for my books shelf and give it a good review.
However, my most favourite thing is going along to my local indoor market and having a browse there, I have picked up some ABSOLUTE bargains from that place.
I am also lucky because I have a library about 200Metres away from my house!
I get my books from a variety of places...First of all, I always check my library, and fortunately, more often than not, they have the book I am after or can get it in for me.
If my library doesn't have the book I am after, or if I just feel like buying a book, I then check out the internet. I use 'Trade Me' (a New Zealand version of ebay) to buy second hand books. For new books, I usually use www.bookdepository.co.uk (they also have a .com address). They are based in the UK, but postage is free (yes, all the way to NZ!) and their books are very reasonably priced. I also use Amazon for ebooks. www.fishpond.co.nz is a good NZ website I occasionally use.
I share/borrow with friends and family a lot. As I am a teacher, I borrow from our school library too. I also like checking out second hand book stores.
Book stores in New Zealand are incredibly overpriced, (around $40 NZ for a standard novel) so I very, very rarely go into a bookstore, unless it is to browse.
I try to keep my bookcase from overflowing, so cull books our regularly and sell them on Trade Me.
So my friend and I had dinner last night and after dinner we decided to go walk through Target. Well we got bored real fast. She decided she wanted a coffee and guess where she wanted to go get it. AT B&N! She had said something earlier in Target about the books got on her nerves. So when we walked in I said something along that to joke with her and she said no these books are always cool because they have coffee with them. Well she of course ended up finding something she wanted to buy and well she then ended up pushing me into buying something. So I came home with two books. First was Book Thief and the other was the Complete Sherlock Holmes Volume I. And of course it didn't take much for me to get excited and not worry about buying another book cause the thrill with the purchase is just so priceless.

If my library does..."
What grade do you teach Angie?
Where I get my books depends on if I am looking for a paperback/hardcover or ebook. If I am looking for an actual book I go to Amazon or B&N since Borders is sadly no more. I would go to a discount/local bookstore more if there was one around me. If I am looking for an ebook however I go to inkmesh (an ebook search engine) or B&N since I own a nook.

Year 5 and 6 - nine and ten-year-olds. I also teach Reading Recovery for two hours a day, one-on-one with four six-year-olds.
I teach Year 2 (6/7yrs). I love the littlies but I think one thing I miss out on is that love of reading. You don't really get that with the little ones. I'd love to see passion for books. I very much encourage a love of books in my classroom but it's just not the same.
Mostly I get my books at the library...that is always my first source for books, because mostly I don't have alot of money to spend on books. But if I'm going to buy books, I go to amazon.com and get Kindle books if they're cheap enough (meaning under $10). But the library usually has the books I'm looking for, either in paper form or in ebook form, even if I have to place a hold.

Mostly, Barnes & Noble. I love the selection. Often, the library, used book sales are amazing! And, my mother, works in one. That makes this an awesome option for me. She tells me when they are having a sale. It is usually for donations. I own way too many books. There's been a couple of times that I have bought books online, like amazon. Now, I also have a nook, so, that makes buying books even easier. Not enough time in the day too read so many options!
For my DTB I shop at Books a Million, Barnes & Noble and Amazon. For my Nook books I shop online at the B&N site, Daily Cheap Reads, Cheap E-Reads and Inkmesh.
I buy lots of books - I collect hardcover first editions. I never read these books, however. They remain pristine on my shelves. The books I read, I get from the library. I do buy some used books from the Friends of the Library sale; these books I take on my travels, and as I read them I leave them behind for someone else to discover and enjoy. (Hardcovers are $1; paperbacks 50c)
DTB? When I see someone use this I see someone who hates books. From now on I think I'll refer to ebooks as pretend books. Or maybe the earth killing books since the plastic and the battery employed by the product are non biodegradable.
Tracy wrote: "DTB? When I see someone use this I see someone who hates books. From now on I think I'll refer to ebooks as pretend books. We don't talk to each other like that here.
With all due respect, it is a derogatory term. If this is a group that is okay with putting down traditional books well, quite frankly is a group that I don't think I want to be a part of any longer. If it just a saying, next time you order, let say pork, tell the server I want dead pig.
It may be a saying but, I find it in poor taste and to be honest quite juvenile.
By the way, I addressed the term and not the poster.

I don't want to argue, and so I'm not responding further.
On the other hand Tracy you can wonder how serious you can take the term when someone tells she still buys paper books ;)Back to business.. I hate that I can only buy my kindle ebooks with amazon.com while they are cheaper at amazon.de. I think that is stupid.
Ciska wrote: "On the other hand Tracy you can wonder how serious you can take the term when someone tells she still buys paper books ;)Back to business.. I hate that I can only buy my kindle ebooks with amazon..."
Really? That's so silly! Why are they offered at amazon.de if you can't buy them?
Nicolette wrote: "Tracy wrote: "With all due respect Nicollette, it is a derogatory term. If this is a group that is okay with putting down traditional books well, quite frankly is a group that I don't think I want ..."Corrected LOL
I am in the netherlands and we do not have our own amazon. Now I saw a book written by Matt Czuchry and his brother for 3 euro at .de and for 8 dollar at .com :( I cannot buy my kindle from amazon.de or co.uk either only from .com. I dont know is a right legal copyright bla thing I guess
Ciska wrote: "I am in the netherlands and we do not have our own amazon. Now I saw a book written by Matt Czuchry and his brother for 3 euro at .de and for 8 dollar at .com :( I cannot buy my kindle from amazon...."That must be annoying
For people who got facebook and like free kindle books there is this group called epic kindle giveaway. You do have to like clowns too they got a lot of offers on a series called clowns in the attic... *goes of for some good nightmares*
I posted here when it first opened, but since Borders closed, I had to come up with a new way to get books. x)Since my dad has an Amazon Prime account for his business, we can get almost anything at a Prime price with free two-day shipping. So if I'm looking for something specifically, I'll go to Amazon, since it's generally cheapest/fastest. If I am not really looking for anything in particular, I'll go to this local bookstore down the road from me, which has both new and used books--so I can look at used for cheap, and new for publisher price.
Or I'll get books from giveaways. That's been happening a lot recently. XD
To all of those Kindle people out there, we can actually lend each other kindle books, how interesting and cool is that? I would be willing to try it!
Jessa wrote: "To all of those Kindle people out there, we can actually lend each other kindle books, how interesting and cool is that? Number 1 there is a limit to how many times you can lend out a book (I think it's twice but I'm not sure) and number 2 some publishers opt to not allow their books to be lent. So it's a great program with a few draw backs. I've never done it but I'm interested in trying!
