Claire nodded, trying to soothe Ana. Ana wanted to take over and have his energy though. She put on the Lure. Oh,no, Claier thought.
He frowned. He'd never come across a cambion before. "What is a cambion?" he asked.
Claire's frown deepened. "Half human half succubus or incubus. In my case, succubus?"
Claire shook her head. "It's just Ana. She keeps wanting energy."
He nodded. He wasn't sure who Ana was, but he decided to just go with it.
Claire saw his questioning. "She's my inner succubus. She's a soul stuck in me that yearns for energy and people. She is the one than can set the Lure. Scary shit."
He nodded in agreement. "And this Lure that you're speaking of...?"
Hayley looked at him. "It's a power that makes boys follow me with puppy dog eyes, think they are in love, or at least notice me. It's kind of like your power. But I have no control of mine."
He cast his gaze to his hands folded in his lap. "Interesting."
She cut a glance at him. "More like horrifying. It's hard though."
He wasn't sure what to say. "I'm sorry" was an overused sentiment, but he said it anyway. "I'm sorry."
"Not really," he said. "I do have problems with my conscience at times. But that's it."
Claire looked down. Ana kept nudging and pulling. The LUre broke, but she kept some of it in.
Claire was already beautiful, but suddenly, she looked even more entrancing than before. Jared resisted the urge to kiss her.
Claire saw the look on his face and gulped. "Ana stop."
Something told him no, but he didn't listen. He reached over and put a hand on her cheek.
Claire put her feet down and stood up, taking a step back. "Jared, resist the urge."
He was disappointed, but he put his hand back in his lap. "Okay."
"It's no you, it's the Lure." She sat back down, squeezing his shoulder.
He nodded. He knew that kissing her five minutes after he'd met her would be wrong, but it was difficult. He folded his hands and sat down on them. "There. It'll be easier now."
Claire put her feet back up onto the table and took out her book again.
He looked around, wondering if he should continue talking to her. He didn't want to disturb her, so he pulled out his sketchbook and began drawing.
He paused for a moment and thought. "Red," he said. "And you?"
He grinned. "Gotta love Christmas."
"Yes. The time of year when you get presents." She wiggled her eyebrows at him.
He wiggled his eyebrows back. "And it's perfectly acceptable to eat what you want with no stopping."
"Oh, really? That rich, buttery flavor?" He grinned. "Christmas is the best."
"Eck!" She kicked him in the ankle slightly. "Don't forget Halloween."
"Oh, yeah," he said. "I'm probably too old for trick-or-treating, but come on. Free candy."
He nodded. "What was your favorite year - your favorite costume that you used?"
Claire's eyes widened at one memory. "I was a hobo one year."
"It was." Shethought back to 6th grade and grinned.
He grinned back at her. "So how'd you find this place?"
Claire's grin decreased. "I,uh, couldn't control Ana so every guy in my old school were chasing me. Not fun."
He nodded. "Doesn't sound like it."
"My parents just sort of sent me here. They'd heard it was a good school."
